Retro here. 'Fire' won with an exceeding amount over 'sand': 15 against 3. Sorry everyone who was hoping for Fire Emblem! I've decided to just stick with basic words rather than naming part of the song from a game. It makes it too obvious and I want the options to be as blatant as possible so they both have a fair chance.
On another note, I got all four wisdom teeth pulled a couple days ago. That was fun. Not.
Hope you enjoy this Cave Story remix. Personally, I've never played the game myself but I love the soundtrack. I'll definitely give it a play through when I have the time but as of right now I'm too busy.

Had no idea retro made it until one day I thought about the game only to see this again

I really need to play this game too. I believe they have it on the Wii U E-shop, so i'll probably get it there. If it's on the 3DS too, i'll consider getting it on the 3DS for portable play.
The beginning is sooo trippy
i REALLY wanna see Quote make into at least 1 smash game some day. maybe an Indie-only smash game? something that will feature Shovel Knight, Quote, Shantae, and any other indie game character. maybe Tempo the Badass Elephant? oh! Lilac and Carol from Freedom Planet! and of course, can't forget Steve from Minecraft! :D

Alexander Potec may you elaborate on his connections with Nintendo. Qutoe works, pixel develops for multiple Nintendo consoles. Shovel knight isn't that likly, bit could work. Shantae has no reason not to be in after baonet.

Quote would work very well, with his normal attacks using the blade and his specials using his other guns.
Steve isn't going to be added. He's far too controversial to be added to the game, and he doesn't have many unique attacks.
Derpy Dolphin quote has such a true to the game moveset as well
I can think of all his attacks with references. Megaman style, but more run and gun style.

I never quite understood why the level is called "Hell" yet the most common villains are angels......
My only guess is it's the people Ballos killed when his magic went out of control.
In case you didn't know there are angels in both heaven and hell. So it makes perfect sense, regardless this level is ridiculously brutal.
There's a sign in the beginning of the area that reads "Welcome to Hell!"

Mr.StrawberryGamer Yes the level itself isn't all that bad just as long as you know the pattern of all the enemies; this doesn't take long to learn. And the mini boss goes really fast if you just spam curly's nemesis and your rocket launcher while only jumping over the messengers and moving to avoid lightning strikes. All you really have to do is keep the health pot until you fight Ballos. Otherwise the only part you really have to take your time on is the falling brick section.
God, I need more Retrospecter Cave story remixes in my life. I know theres this one, but its so good that I can't get enough of it xD
I really enjoy this remix, the only thing that disappoints me a bit is when the chorus plays. Its missing the real punch, if you know what I mean. The deep tones which plays during the verse and high tones that builds up for the chorus is part of what i'm talking about. Something like that

I know this comment is 2 years old but I just wanted to state, part of the reason I love the original running hell so much, same with the final fight theme, is that they lack that punch and it really feels like the do or die moment rather than the "I'm the hero so everything goes my way" type of thing. That's part of the reason I heavily dislike most of the cave story remixes.

It just occurred to me. What kind of creepy weirdo makes a killer robot army that look like ten-year-old kids?
Quote and Curly are unique among the machines sent to the island ten years ago; they alone had the mission of destroying the demon crown and I believe that their advanced construction is why they appear so human-like. The killer robot that you talk to in the core only vaguely resembles a human and, while its eroded appearance may be owed to the humid air in the water-filled chamber and the damage it sustained in the battle with the core, its mannerisms and mode of speech are far different than that of a human--and of Curly and Quote.
In addition, Quote and Curly are scout robots; making them appear human so they could blend into and infiltrate native populations of humans would help them better accomplish their mission: namely, information-gathering leading to the destruction of the Demon Crown artifact.

This should have been the theme for the 3D version. the 3Ds version just sucks, and it ruins the sense of urgency, and makes you forget that the island is falling, and only you and curly can stop it from crashing into the ground.
Yeah, I do like some of the 3ds songs, some of them just sound like Cave Story songs put on a Nintendo 64.

Hey guys. Just a quick update on where the next remix is. It's almost done but not to the point where I feel like it's listen-able. I will be uploading both 'sand' and 'time' next weekend to make up for the absence of this weekend and then go from there. I apologize to everyone who participated in last week's vote that didn't get their remix. It won't happen again. On a side note, I will be camping for a few days, so if a bear eats me, I give all my belongings to Eyeless. See you guys next weekend.

if i remember correctly that picture is from the grassland or grasstown. the two of them don't actually meet their or have even met before that. and i don't think it's possible to get their with curly unless you hack it or something... but none the less it is a very good picture!

I'll always associate this song (this arrangement in particular) with riding home after a long day in the worst thunderstorm I've ever experienced. Water was halfway up my car door and the entire town I was in was completely shut down for a short time. I thought this fit perfectly so I just played it on repeat the whole time.

This remix perfectly captures the feel of this level. It has the excitement of cave story's jumpy-shooty-button-mashy gameplay combined with the frantic feeling of knowing that the island you are standing on is falling out of the sky and you're the only one who can stop it

Probably because Cave Story (CS)'s mountain on the floating island looks remarkably like Mt.Ebott from Undertale. Whether that was intentional or not, Pixel (The developer that made CS made a game called Kero Blaster which, if nothing else is really fun, has a mode similar to most game's "New Game+" mode that is *EXTREMELY* difficult, and has a remix of CS's "Zombie" for a boss theme. Zombie's the track that plays when (SPOILERSSPOILERSSPOILERS) the walls close in after killing Ballos. Sorry for making such a long comment.

CAVE STORY WAS MADE 11 YEARS BEFORE UNDERTALE SO IT WASN'T INTENTIONAL

2. Undertale was inspired by Cave Story.
3. They both follow a silent protagonist
4. They have multiple endings
5. You wake up in a cave with no memories and you find monsters
6. Mimigas and the goat people look much alike
I feel like this is the best version of this song. It really makes me feel like danger could come out and kill you at any time, which is fitting because the blood stained sanctuary/ sacred grounds is arguably the most difficult area in cave story.

The insta-kill spikes are what's called "artificial difficulty."
You want to see difficult? Try the Last Cave or the Waterway; those two places manage to be pretty hard without resorting to cheap tricks like instant-death traps.
