Mybe some time I'll replace my sun sun 302b for one of those filters. I'm not impressed with the flow on my 75. I have a marineland emperor 400 running too. I dont mind the marineland filter. I used a sponges instead of cartridges. The saying you said at the end I always say that to my mirrors I work with.

Yep I was thinking the same thing. I had two of those API Filstar canisters and I loved them. I was not happy when I found out they were discontinued.

Quick question I have 150 gallon aquarium with an overflow and I have a FX 4 brand new would it be beneficial to hook it up to the aquarium I just hate to see it sitting there in a box not being used

HI JAY....NICE VIDEO....THE BEST HANGON THE BACK FILTER ON THE MARKET IS THE AQUACLEAR 110.....THEY MOVE A LOT OF WATER...AND THEY ARE SO BIG YOU CAN CUSTOMIZE IT ANYWAY YOU WANT. AND TO CLEAN THEM IS SUPER EASY AND NOT TIME CONSUMING LIKE A CANNISTER FILTER....IF YOU HAVEN'T TRIED ONE, I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT....

I'm from iran and we have sicce and prodac two italian manufacturers and based on my experience prodac filters and foods are better than sicce plus their external filters have uv lights so that a pro nice review bro thanks

For making 5x2x2 feet aquarium with 12 mm glass, if the following dimensions are correct?
Base, Front and Back glass- 60"x24"
Side glass- 24"x23"
Bracing long- 59"x3"
Bracing short- 23"x3"
Are the above dimensions are correct or have to reduce 1mm from 23" and 59" respectively?

I have a Whale 350 and my experiences are slightly different. I like the intake and outlet parts that hook in the aquarium edge, because they seat themselves properly on the edge in a way I've not seen with other brands. Flow rate is fine, used the pond guru's approach to set it up. However, my biggest grievance is noise.
I had an old Eheim 150T, which was impossible to hear, even when you jam it against the inside of a cabinet, no resonation, no noise. The Whale 350 in comparison is very noisy. To get it down to reasonable levels I have had to buy a new impeller and apply Vaseline. I can still hear it at 2 meters distance, but I do have an ear for the typical hum it emits. It is in the living room and it's fine during the day, but when the silence of the night hits, man, this one is anything but quiet. Sicce support were not helpful, mentioning the obvious (seating, air pockets etc, and not really of any use. I don't mind water movement noise, but that typical mains hum is clear and irritating.
Besides the noise, the only other negative is that when I service the filter, I've not been able to re-seat the pump head without lots of water spilling out. I might have acquired the exception to the rule, and a lot I like about this filter. Mostly that the 350 is quite low in height, making it possible to fit it under the shelf of the old Jewel cabinets, and for that height, it holds a good amount of media, the head clamps are sturdy, and it looks good.
Might be the way you stuffed it. All 8 of mine are dead quiet.
You can clip the dividers on the return and intake to fit over more comfortably for you.

@@Jaywil07 it's the impeller. I have replaced it with a new one, and used vaseline, it is reasonably quiet now. I have ensured that there is abt 1/2 inch of water to the top of the tray. It is a 50Hz hum, no water noise, no trapped air. That sounds different. If the cannister touches the cabinet, there is a little resonation, but the noise is from the head. Might try and replace the head to see if that helps, right now it is the lowest it has been for a while. Gets slightly worse over time. There are reports that it needs some settling time, but it is not in the same class as the eheim I had, noise wise. In other aspects, much nicer than the eheim. But I am sensitive to a 50Hz hum, from when I built my own amps, and I can hear it 1 meter out in a closed cabinet whereas the eheim was without noise. I have coarse medium the fine foam in the bottom and 2x bio medium in the two trays on top. Same as the eheim, but double the bio in the sicce. I don't have 8, just one, mine is noisy. And I really already like how intake and return clip the glass edge. Could do with a pre filter. Use a eheim lilly pipe at the end. Just that hummmmmm 🤔
Great review of this filter. How deep would the piece with the strainer end go into an aquarium? Only asking because from the top at the glass to my substrate is around 12-13 inches. Would this work as it comes out of the box or would it need cut? Thanks

Jay, what about the motor generating heat? How much will it make the temperature raise in a small 30 gallon tank? For me that is a significant issue, example, I like a lot Marineland canisters but they raise the temperature a lot.. Comments?

I am just learning more about SICCE, I only knew the name from their joint venture with SeaChem, on the well made Tidal Series Hang on Back Filters. Also, I have a SICCE Shark Adv 800 inside of an Oasé BioOrb Cube 16 gallon. I am highly impressed.
I am just watching your Video on the Whale 120. I have and FX6 and FX4 and an Oasé Biomaster 600 and Oasé Biomaster 850, honestly I know the FX6 and FX4 have more pumping capacity in GPH, but the FX6 and FX4 are notorious, and this is important, for the lack of biological media capacity it can hold.
For instance, with some putting coarse then medium to fine pads in the bottom of my Oasé Biomaster 850 I can put 11 pounds of Biohome Ultimate in that filter, vs less than 10 pounds in the FX6, and that is pushing it.
Is through put the only important thing? Also, the Fluvak FX6 looks like a fancy garbage can.
Anyway, my point is, I am looking at buying 2 Sicce Whale 500s. I wanted to get your opinion on these filters. I know SICCE makes some of the best water pumps for many uses in the world, What would you suggest for a 90 gallon rather heavily stocked African Cichlid Tank?
Got a oase filter and they are silent. Also heater is inside the filter. Brilliant german quality filter

Hmmm it could be nice if the mortor was controlled by and app and it was possible to install a heater in it also.
I don’t use heaters so I don’t find that a feature. As far as an app not a bad idea but it’s a canister so I’m not sure what you would want an app for?

@@Jaywil07 instead of using the flow regulator you could use the app to control the flow and also have a feed function in the app so you could lower the flow when feeding
Another thing is If u want to be able to have much flow at one point of time and a lover flow another point of time. I live in Denmark and sometimes it can't be cold so it could be nice if there where a version where u could add a heater in the filter and it would be good for aqau scaping just my point of view
Yeah but the dial is right by the glass lid lol I just dial it down and bang lol an app for me on a canister would be just something to meh lol but a power head now you are talking.

Unfortunately I'll never see one in person to know if it's worth the price tag... as fluval and marineland has this deal with petsmart to pretty much kill the market. I have no lfs. The only other pet store is a small chain called petfoodstore [I know original] it's sad that the big brands have the power to sti this. Petsmart even dropped eheim...

Hi jay, ever since I have stepped in this hobby, I am an admirer of your work. Keep uploading videos. I want to make a 6ft* 2ft*2ft in coming days. Sicce is a great brand, I'm already using shark adv 800. I want to know the following things as it will make me decide between whale 500 & hydor 600
1. Water bypas
2. At the time of cleaning what is the condition of bottom most coarse sponge ? As the fundamental suggests water to go all the way down & rise up through media - hence the bottom sponge has to be funked up
3. How is the flow when packed with media
4. Does it come with all medias?
5. Does the sponges are reusuable? As in India Polly fills are hard to come by
I believe if you ans my queries - it will be a good product review wrt product filtering performance & efficiency.

@@suddhashilmukhuty8836 I would not worry about the bypass as it is very minor. There is not one canister filter made without some kind of bypass. It is not a design flaw. Should your media become so clogged up the flow would follow the path of least resistance, the bypass, to prevent damage and catastrophic failure of the filter. Not sure if the canister could handle the built-up pressure without the bypass but the pump would surely fail from the backpressure.

I don't know. I've had my first FX6 and my first canister filter running for a few months now and I can't hear it at all. The 500 doesn't even turn the volume over in a 125g tank 4 times/hour. That's not good enough for me. They are cheaper than the FX series, but I can get an FX6 for $270 or less during black friday sales. For larger tanks I'd go with FX series over these I think, but I'd have to use one to make that determination legit. Other than the FX series I would rather try the Oase Thermo line.
It wasn’t designed for a 125 lol you can not compare it to an FX6. An FX6 Is a pond filter branded as an aquarium filter

How do you compare Whale 500 vs Fluval 407?
The whale is far quieter hands down which is a big deal for me
I do not like clear hose it’s too gross later. The intake is clear making it almost invisible but the hosing to the canister is a really quality grey hose
Man…. Read some really reviews on Amazon. A lot of issues with leakages. And why u don’t let it run and listen to the noise ???
The leaks came from people not putting it together correctly. Also I did notice SICCE upgraded all the plastic.

It is designed by Seachem and manufactured by Sicce. It is a Seachem product with a Sicce collaboration. In my opinion, it has an excellent pump but a poorly designed built-in skimmer making it very loud at times and not shrimp or fry friendly. Being an AquaClear user for many years, I purchased the 110 to try it out because of the Sicce pump. It arrived from Amazon looking like it was poorly handled during packaging with marks all over. I threw away the included media and replaced it with much better. It started and worked great but immediately noticed the loud noise coming from the built-in skimmer. The adjustment knobs didn't seem to make a difference. I really wanted to like this one because of the Sicce pump despite the price difference from the AquaClear but returned it after a couple of weeks. It's going to take much more than the bells and whistles Seachem heavily markets of the Tidal for me to make the move from AquaClear.

The color of the ink on the paper has no correlation to environmentally friendly. It is just cheaper to print, and if cheap is what your after its probably not recycled paper which would actually be some kind of reference to its environmental friendliness. I just heard a sales pitch and quit watching. I'm sure the content is fine otherwise I'm just a printer and that sounded ridiculous
Actually less work put into it means less of a carbon foot print. We must look at all aspects to see the impact.
