My issue with the Ubiquiti Inwall APs is that Unifi does not have the ability to apply bandwidth limits to wired clients - at least not for clients plugged into the switches directly, I have not tested myself to see whether the in-AP switch can do this.
What is the point of having to activate the VLAN function first instead of being able to select it directly? Regarding the first PoE port...why can't Ubiquiti still allow devices via MAC and prevent unknown devices from being connected?
Because all you need to do is passively snoop the network for an allowed MAC and clone it to bypass that. Another way to get an allowed MAC address is to just read it off a device that's allowed. Let's say you run a hotel and there's a Roku/FireTV in the room. You can read the MAC off of the device, clone that MAC, now the network thinks that your device is that device. It's only providing protection from the most basic of users. It's not only simply not security, it provides a false sense of security generally making people otherwise more relaxed in other areas because they feel their network is secure when it is not.

Chris, do you think having one per bedroom is overkill? Would the UAP-AC-IW be overkill as well? I would like to eliminate buying the mini flex switch and use these instead. Kill 2 birds with 1 stone, get the WiFi coverage in all bedrooms and still have additional LAN ports.
That would seem overkill; each IW should cover an adjacent bedroom with a good signal. Then again, when I built a house, I went for overkill. If you need more than one lan port and don't want a tiny switch in each room, these would seem perfect.

Is there a way to make this cable connection limited the same way as Wi-Fi so every guest have the limitations? Best regards Lars Petter Kristensen Denmark
Locking down the open ports is a bit of a moot point. I get it, but if a user is not getting the access they need, they'll just jack into one of the ports they see in use. You should never have trusted assets that are not physically controlled, period.

These packaging boxes are pretty wasteful and pretty annoying for the low voltage company. Don’t fold flat, plastic wrap, lots of wasted glossy retail ink and electricity in finishing. When you get 49 of these you end up with just as big of a box as it came in, which is like 3 full boxes. Lots of construction supers get annoyed that you are not breaking down boxes in cities like NYC. They foot the bill for those little dumpsters.

Do I have more range with the ubiquiti nano HD or with this IW HD? I would like to buy one of this two but I don't know which one gives me better Wifi speeds and better coverage
They can connect without data cable, only via wireless mesh?
No, the In-WallHD must be wired. What you are looking for is the BeaconHD.
Thanks for the review, quick question, will the UAP-IW-HD mesh with the UAP-AC-PRO that would already be present in a deployment?
Any issue running this with Cat5e stranded? What the house was wired with.
I have UAP-IW-HD units connected with both solid and stranded wires and didn't notice any issues with stranded wires.
Chris- Thanks for all the work you do. You've been tremendous in helping all of us. What are your thoughts on MikroTik's hEX router and their switches? I'm considering MikroTik as well as the EdgeRouter and UniFi line and wanted to hear your thoughts.
I would love to see your shelves full of unused Ubiquiti gear.
It’s becoming an issue.
would love to see a comparison of nano-HD vs IW-HD. here is my situation. designing a new home. It is going to cost m e $166 to run an ethernet cable to the ceiling. two floor home and if i put two nano's then it will be $166 each. i could avoid this and plug and IW-HD to the many ethernet cables coming into my walls. Or i could do a combo. have one nano and then another IW-HD to my wall ethernet. I need to know what is the best solution that is cost effective. worst case if i have to run two ethernet cables to my ceilings for nano-HD i am fine but do i need that. it is a 3200 sqft open. Open plan downstairs and 5 rooms upstairs.
Time for a new camera? video quality seems a bit off. Great video though!
I’d love one but can’t justify the $$$ when this one works fine. Really, I just need better lenses...but those are still crazy expensive.
What software is used to get coverage map
He said in the video, NetSpot Pro.
Cool outro music
Another great video Chris 👍
Chris, do you think having one per bedroom is overkill? Would the UAP-AC-IW be overkill as well? I would like to eliminate buying the mini flex switch and use these instead. Kill 2 birds with 1 stone, get the WiFi coverage in all bedrooms and still have additional LAN ports.
That would seem overkill; each IW should cover an adjacent bedroom with a good signal. Then again, when I built a house, I went for overkill. If you need more than one lan port and don't want a tiny switch in each room, these would seem perfect.
Hasn't UBNT already EOL'ed these? I thought I saw somewhere they weren't releasing FW for them already.
This is the HD version, it's current and should be supported for years. It's the original IW that I've heard is EOL soon. Just more reason to get the HD version that he reviewed here.
Hi Chris
Thank you for the very god and educational videos you always makes.
You mention in this video that this UAP-IW-HD can be used in for example hotels.
I help a hotel with Guest Wi-Fi where we used voucher and limited up-/download.
All works fine on Wi-Fi.
But We also the use Guest Network Vlan (55) on wired cable connections to the rooms.
The wired connections works fine (also voucher) , to fine because there is no limitations on up-/download.
We use USG + Cloudkey gen2 and all devices is Ubiquiti (Switches/AP).
Is there a way to make this cable connection limited the same way as Wi-Fi so every guest have the limitations?
Best regards

Great video.and nice music...tks
Locking down the open ports is a bit of a moot point. I get it, but if a user is not getting the access they need, they'll just jack into one of the ports they see in use. You should never have trusted assets that are not physically controlled, period.
How am from philippines do i have discount im a reseller
Hi Chris I like your dog... 😁 It looks like already very old. 😁 I love your videos and in fact, because of you I bought two Ubiquiti M5 for receiving the signal of operators in one mountain, and send it down to the camp site where I have the router for share on the rooms. How can I send you a picture of my installation?
you can rip the whole thing from the wall.. just saying
With your bare hands? I'd pay to see that.
@@CrosstalkSolutions nooo, with a flat head ;)
Don't understand the relevance here - you can rip anything off the wall given the right tool(s). What does that prove - other than an ability to destroy things?
@@rogerjones9984 the point was that there is no need for security torx screw, if you want to steal/take the ap they will not prevent it
Small flat head defeats torx security all day long.
Those new aps are too expensive!
They should try to find a way to cut the prices ...
TuttoCrafting you're right we should buy meraki instead
@@vono360 I don't know if you're joking or what. (No idea of the prices cisco)
I had clients that didnt want to use the new HD aps due to thee fact that they are twice the price of the ACs and the fact that Unifi APs are already not that cheap compared to consumer stuff.
I had clients sayng that : "for 50 box i can get a full router with wifi AC in it why should i have to spent 100USD+ for only an AP?"
Unfortunatly the cilient have the last word on the budget...
TuttoCrafting yes the new HD aps are expensive. But they are meant for very high density environments with many many clients. They are not designed nor should they be used for location with 10 clients. However, as far as overall prices go, you are getting something with ubiquiti that others (Cisco, HP, Arris) will charge you 10x more for. Granted they dont have all of the features but for 99% of small business or office environments, they offer everything needed.
I bet your dog hates you ;-) Thanks for the video !
He’s really old...and pretty camera shy.
Spend more time with your dog. Lay on the floor next to him so you're part of his world. :))
I may or may not like this video.
Cool
Ass dawg!
If you have the money to spend on this upmarket brand just get a pro company to install it.
I love you videos but throwing the packaging and instructional materials across the room is getting old now.
not for me....I have a good chuckle each time Chris flings something, and have for 4 years or so...keep flingin', Chris!
Just don’t watch that part.
