The final comment after finishing the video is that the kk3 sticks are incredibly tuned and with a controller that has 1000 hz. The travel on the triggers is made up for by the lack of input delay. The back buttons also seem less mushy and more clicky on the kk3. The only win I give the Vader is the software support for the sticks, as for games that don’t support intuitive aiming curves that actually improve aim accuracy but that’s pretty much it.. great first review. I am making some of my first reviews ever as well so I know the struggle of making speech and wording errors. Great video 🎉

For the Vader controller the c and z would be clutch for opening up the map or for let’s say wz for clearing pings after opening the map. So you would press c then z in quick form to not have to do start and down on the right stick to clear the pings with large hand travel to do so.

I can't confirm if the bumpers on the Vader pro are clicky, but they definitely 100% are not mushy. They are very tactile but don't make the same mouse Click sound that the triggers and the face buttons do. The bumpers on the KK3 are also not clicky, I wouldn't describe them as mushy but I think the ones on the Vader 3 pro feel better

Very helpful review/comparison. I'm trying to find as many reviews of the KK3 Max as I can, before deciding whether to buy it. The Vader 3 Pro looks very good, but I think I would find the mouse click sound for virtually every input annoying; and I'm also not a fan of the circular d-pad. But I definitely wish the KK3 had the shorter digital trigger travel, since I don't use analog triggers in basically any game I play. The trigger stops sounded very appealing when I heard about the KK3. The longer travel is a shame, but even if it cuts out just half of the overall travel, that would still be a big improvement over only analog. Being able to set the d-pad to 4-way would also be very useful to me for older (primarily NES) games. I currently use the 8bitdo Ultimate Bluetooth controller, and even though their d-pads are great, I frequently start turning in an unintended direction when playing a game like Zelda 1.
I would be getting the white KK3 if I get one. Even though the fingerprints will still be there, maybe they at least won't be as noticeable on that color. Because, yeah, that looks like it gets pretty nasty-looking. Not completely sure if I'll just stick with the 8bitdo for now or go for this - but this review was helpful.
BTW, just an obscure question. I had briefly owned the Kingkong 2 Pro, and I seemed to recall that the overall shape of the controller made it so that your fingers naturally rested on the triggers - but then it was a little bit awkward to move them forward to use the shoulder buttons (bumpers), like I had to turn my wrist somewhat. I checked with my brother, who has that controller, and he confirmed that it feels awkward for him too to reach the bumpers. Is it more or less similar with the KK3, or does it feel any less awkward? Not a deal breaker for me either way - the 8bitdo Ultimate has the same issue, to me. In my experience, it seems to not be an issue with various official Nintendo controllers, like the Switch Pro and Wii U Pro controllers. But I was just curious about this one anyway.

    • @chronicmayhem
      @chronicmayhem  4 месяца назад +5

I think he fingerprints are only an issue on the black version, the gray and white shouldn't show any of that.
It's still a banger of a controller for the price. I wish controller companies didn't make all mechanical switches clicky, why can't they be like keyboard brown switches that are silent but tactile? I'd love that.
I have noticed with the vader its wheel dpad i hit the direction puttings by mistake activating up and right for example when I want to ping an enemy with the up direction but that could be a me issue, thats not an issue on the kk3. The bumpers on the kk3 might seem a little awkward at first but you mostly would get use to it. The vader definitely has better bumpers and uses the same amount of pressure to activate no matter where you hit them and they are textured.

I wonder why all RUclipsrs always recite the (incorrect) marketing speech about hall effect sticks, without reasoning about the basis of it. Hall Effect is the remedy for capacitive reading-surface degradation, not for stick drift. What a hall effect sticks will save you from, is twitchy, jumpy, incorrect or not even at all, reading and reporting of the direction your stick is pointing to, because there is no capacitive surface to degrade. But they will not save you from stick drift, which depends on the springs loosening with time or the base of the stick slowly (very slowly) degrading from extensive use, and in this regard, hall effect share the same principle of the capacitive ones, so hall effect can, and they do, have stick drift with extensive use.

    - Controller would rarely "hold" any button down for me, usually LB
    Gripes:
    - The buttons are slightly too high, compared to my xbox controller. As someone who's usage of a controller is 90% Rocket League, the ability to quickly and easily press A and X over & over again is important and it was causing some strain in my forearm.
    - No software: Start and Back buttons are by default mapped to the + and - buttons. Couldn't remap them to the actually reachable buttons in the middle
    - Paddles extruding too much to be useful
    Notes:
    - The triggers are a fair bit more resistant than an Xbox controller. I was willing to try get used to it but I hadn't determined if it was a gripe of mine or not
I only play RL & soulslikes with controllers nowadays so i'm going with kk3, never used a controller that wasn't the stock xbox/PS controllers in my life and don't think i'll miss mechanical buttons from V3 and ain't no way i'm installing some random chinese tech company software for the V3, id rather it be a web utility. I do wish the KK3's paddles were more like what the Xbox Elite ones look like, but i've never even used paddles before & because of RL I play with two fingers on bumpers & triggers, maybe the paddles will be easier to use with ring finger.
After researching this for an hour, apparently stuff like the circularity test can be easily patched out by the manufacturer like programming deadzone into the controller and the test doesn't really mean that much, but I don't know how true that is.

The concept of buying a more expensive product, because is a brand product is for the quality of the product. That is why you would normally buy the reputable brand product, right?!
So, what is quality on a gamepad?
The sticks, and triggers, that is the essential bit, for the 3d games and the buttons for the 2d games.
In today's world the vast majority of games are 3d, thus making the sticks and triggers the #1 feature that gives quality to a controller gamepad for the player.
If you make a product with obsolete and highly unreliable tech, it means your product is lower quality.
So, the xbox elite 2 is a scam.

Great comparison. I had the same controllers, except my KK3 was in grey because it looks better, and i say "was" because i returned it. The triggers are pretty bad, especially when locked because they still press down too far as you mentioned. It feels cheap/nasty because there's just a thin piece of plastic that locks them in place, so it bends and sounds creaky. While the V3 Pro is the exact opposite - it has great triggers, especially when locked. Solid, sturdy, and they feel like a responsive mouse click. Plus there's rumble motors inside.
The KK3's D-pad is too small and mushy. It's not bad overall, although It's very mediocre for fighting games. But the V3 Pro easily has one of the best D-pads i've used in 30+ years. Full size circular D-pads, also known as REAL D-pads, are objectively superior. Sega showed everyone how this is done decades ago (as always), yet here we still are with small plus (+) shaped D-pads. Pathetic.
Speaking of fighters, the V3 Pro's C and Z buttons are excellent for these types of games. Once again Sega showed everyone how this is done. The KK3 obviously lacks these buttons.
The ABXY buttons on the KK3 have barely any rattle sound or wobble. They feel pretty good. But again the V3 Pro's are still better with the mechanical switches. They feel great with a reassuring click, which isn't annoyingly loud or anything. Makes them feel more responsive as well.
I much prefer the integrated back buttons on the V3 Pro over the paddles that stick out WAY too much on the KK3. They're uncomfortable, as you've pointed out.
The V3 Pro charges much faster and the battery seems to last longer, at least when the lighting is enabled on both controllers and set to a similar brightness level.
The KK3's gyro is poor. Feels like it's running at around 60Hz polling rate or something. It lacks precision. Once again the V3 Pro performs better.
You're right about the KK3 being a fingerprint magnet. It wont just wipe off with a dry cloth either.
There's no software for the KK3 so you cannot configure more advanced settings. The KK3 may have the ability to do a lot of things on the controller itself, but you can just set everything up in the V3 Pro's software and save a configuration to the controller, then switch between these configs by pressing Select + A/B/X/Y.
The last straw for me was the 33ms input latency on the KK3. It may have 1000Hz (1ms) polling rate but that doesn't mean much when there's a processing delay before sending the signal, so the input latency ends up slower than almost any other controller. 33ms is 2 entire frames at 60fps. That's huge. It's the same for both the dongle and Bluetooth, although the cable connection is very fast at 3ms (but who uses a cable). The actual TOTAL time it takes for the controller to communicate with the device is what matters and this can only be tested with a high frame rate camera or dedicated testing device, like what Gamepadla offer. For example, the standard Series controller has 6ms total input latency yet it only has 125Hz polling rate.
I also didn't like how the KK3 takes anywhere from 3 - 9 seconds to connect to the dongle, while the V3 Pro always connects in 1 second when turned on.
The only things i miss on the KK3 are how accurate the sticks are, the turbo and the ability to record up to 10 minutes of inputs (and how it looks). Although i prefer the looser tension of the V3 Pro's sticks. Overall the KK3 is overrated and getting far more attention than it deserves. It absolutely is not a competitor to the V3 Pro.
As for the Elite controllers, both 1 and 2, they're the worst controllers i've ever bought and wont be getting another one ever again. The sticks always fail and they fall apart/break with little use. All the rubber came off my Elite 1 within 2 months. They cost so much yet the quality is awful.
BTW my V3 Pro resets the sticks to a perfect 0.00002 on Gamepad Tester. Try updating your firmware and then recalibrating the sticks (Hold Select + Start + Up on the D-pad to enter calibration mode).

    • @chronicmayhem
      @chronicmayhem  4 месяца назад +1

Updated my vader 3 pro and the sticks now reset perfectly as you mentioned. The finger print thing seems to me mostly a black version issue.
You are correct I've seen TON of people on Reddit complain about the input delay on the kk3, i didn't notice it but i still should have mentioned it as it is a huge issue, maybe they can fix that with firmware but who knows.

    • @NoClipMode

@@capnm0istbeard441 That's just the polling rate. There's a 33ms delay from the gamepad to the dongle, so the fast polling is basically useless.

V3 pro software allows assigning keyboard and mouse buttons to gamepad buttons too. That's a very important functionality that most gamepads miss, especially those without PC software support. And what a funny thing to say it feels like a toy. Gamepads ARE toys. It does feel light but that makes it only better. My xbox controller is much heavier and it hurts my wrists if I use it for an hour or so. Its material is very durable too. I dropped mine several times with no damage afterwards. All in all it's much better than an elite 2 and much cheaper. It's just perfect.
PS: with the last update its software now allows macro recording and assignment too.

    "pretty cool"
Nothing about glowing lights is cool. It's a silly gimmick.
    RGB is not "cool."
"I haven't really found a purpose for the extra face buttons"
The default bind is for the analog stick clicks. This is what many people want because as perceptive people know, stick clicks is a horrible feeling input especially when you're fully deflecting the stick already and need to click it. Aside from that, the more buttons the better so you can bind every functions on PC or emulators.
