Dostoevsky's exploration of Raskolnikov’s moral turmoil in Crime and Punishment feels like a direct challenge to our modern age, where utilitarianism and moral relativism often dominate the narrative. His words remind us that, as he wrote: ‘Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.’ Yet it is through confronting these fears-our capacity for guilt, love, and redemption-that we rediscover our shared humanity. A profound warning and an eternal lesson.
Crime and Punishment was published in 1866, while Nietzsche published his first book in 1872. Dostoyevsky could not possibly be influenced by Nietzsche. It wasn't possible the other way around either, because Dostoevsky wasn't translated until 1911, after Nietzsche's death. Before jumping to conclusions, sometimes it helps to check the facts first. :)
I fully identify with the Underground Man. I used to naive, believe in god, look for meaning for more than a decade, care for relationships, but now I could care less, and looking behind it was all a total waste of time. It doesn't mean necessarily that this pushes to do crime, etc. It's just that life loses its magic, neither you nor I are special, social antics just become burdensome, the chase for higher goals or wanting to change the world becomes futile, you start to see the world for what it is rather than living with the false veil over your idealistic young and growing brain. We are lied to since childhood about the world. The spark is gone and I can't imagine it coming back, seems odd and fake, requiring mental effort to pretend. Life is just normal, meaningless and I just choose to enjoy little things I can with or without others (zero effort, only if they truly want themselves).
Don't let these philosophers dictate your reality. Personally I think some men, not all, not the majority but a few men are destined to be disillusioned with the system. Why? Because these men are not slaves nor enjoy the slave mentality of following commands of a corrupt and selfish leader/system. Too many slaves with pencils dictate our modern narration of meaning. You either support the system or you're against it. I know what i believe in. Follow your heart brother, many of these philosophers sure didn't xD
I caution against fusing ideology and practice. There is virtue in practice no matter the ideology. The lack of practice is due to ideology of course. But ideology alone doesn't do the harm that is done when it's combined with the lack of practice.
You think its bad now just wait until they try to shake off religion entirely. "Everything man thinks he knows and understands I will change within an instant...all his wisdom and knowledge I will flip upside down and make him start all over again the fools".-
The beginning of this video is just one reason why I scoff at evolution. It believes because we came about be a series of mindless accidents, we have no purpose and has thus assisted in fostering nihilism. Amusingly it also destroyed the concept of morality, since we just "evolved" and operate on base instincts like the animals we supposedly came from. Creationism is just the opposite. It believes because we were deliberately designed by someone, there's a reason why we're here and therefore there is purpose for our existence. Ironically, having a sense of purpose defeats emptiness and assists in overcoming depression.
Just because you believe in Creationism, doesn’t disproof Evolution, as it is now becoming a scientific fact, day by day. Also, creationism can also lead to depression, as in the middle of chaos, you will blame God for your miseries. Abrahamic religions such as Christianity, Islam, Judaism are one of worst culprits to blame for large scale wars and genocides. It’s actually a fault in humans that we get depressed and violent so easily. If we were like animals, we would have been more productive, more positive, as animals don’t hoard food and Don't do mass massacres.
If God exists he she or it would be a product of the "physical" universe, this would still leave the "creator" door open. Most everything we know over time changes, why couldn't the creation concept follow suit?
Creation, creator, we follow a logic understable from our human perspective. We know too little to understand the whole thing, but of course we'll always push ourselves to try understand it

But why do others take it as so n never do anything otherwise
rationalizations based on yourself is where unhinged individualism justifies tradition and religious guidelines?
