As a former orthotist and pedorothist I can tell you from experience to not use the arizona brace for anyone with neuropathy of the feet. I went thru cancer for my 3rd time last year and this time was for leukemia. I now have bilateral L1 nerve impairment along with diabetes from my second cancer of pancreatic cancer caught early. I was using old AFOs made off my legs when carbon fiber first came out. Very rigid like floor reaction AFOs. The brace had solid ankles from carbon fiber insets set into the polypro. Full foot plate extended just past my toes. An added on anterior shell to keep straps from digging in and to provide and little heal relief as a clam shell. My braces were made in 1992 and you can guess they are starting to crack. My foot and ankle specialist casted me for arizona braces. 3/4 length lace up. After 3 weeks I had bad ulcers on top my mets from the end of the brace digging in when I walked. I tried stretching the leather and finally gave up. I was about to loose my feet. I went back to my cracked AFO and within 3 months no one knew anything was wrong with my legs. My foot and ankle doctor now has me going to Hanger for replacement copies of my AFOs I made working for hanger back in the 90's. Never use the Arizona brace on anyone with reduce sensation of the foot. People sell these braces on ebay and refuse to wear them. They cause way too many issues for those with nerve impairment of the foot. If you get any swelling the arizona brace will not compensate for swelling. Nor does it supply the support need for a foot with reduced muscle control. I spent over 2 grand for insurance deduction and ended up throwing mine away. As a former orthotist and now a patient I can honestly say stay away from lace up leather braces on neuropathy patients.
