    I've got the limited edition with the Cane tolex and grill cloth (no difference from this one) and it's absolutely killer. Its easy to carry around with no sacrifice to tone. Don't even need any pedals for this thing to scream because the natural break up is so usable and musical. Although I would recommend an attenuator so you can really crank it without worrying about volume. I've been trying to really focus on my playing more than my tone and this little guy helped; nothing to fiddle with and get all technical with. Just two knobs and the knobs on the guitar. Perfection.

    I have one of these, and I want to share something: with the tone past noon you get a more scooped/blackface sound, with the tone below noon you get some of the tweed/midrange bump sound. And as you might expect the more saturated it gets the more the mids are accentuated. Also, it can sound a lot like the newest Blues Deluxe (which I also own). They seem related tonally (In my opinion anyway). This is one of the few amps I have played where I just don't miss/need reverb. It's a very "forward" sounding amp and not at all boxy in this new version.

      Thanks for that detailed information about your Pro Junior👍 How are you liking the Jensen speaker? Have you run any overdrive or delay pedals in front of it and if so, how does it sound? I have a 2011 Blues jr. Limited Edition I'm planning to sell. It doesn't quite have the tone or sound as I'm looking for. I may pick up a Pro Junior after I sell it.

      @@richardalan6219 So sorry, I did not see a notification for your question. I love the Jensen. It does sound great after it breaks in. I play the Pro JR with a Carl's Speaker Soak so that I can crank it up to 9. Then I use my guitar volume to go from clean to crunch. It doesn't need a pedal. I do however run a Prince of Tone on Boost, and sometimes a Klon/Centura with high gain into it. The reason: The PoT fattens, the Klon adds some treble back that the attenuator kills.

      @@jonathanavery7583 Very cool! I have put mine into a Tweed Deluxe shaped/sized cabinet and switched to a Jensen P12Q (same speaker used in many Tweed 5E3 Deluxes). It definitely sounds closer a Deluxe now, but without the bass flub with humbuckers, and with more headroom. So cool.

    sounds great, I love the fact that you can roll down the volume to clean up a bit, then roll back up to overdrive! That's what I miss about tube amps & Fenders seem to get some of the best blues sounds around. It's too bad that these digital modeling don't have a channel just for that! The only solid state amp that comes close is my old Peavey silver striped transtube bandit, which I bought new in 1996. Love your reviews, keep up the great work, you have inspired me to start a series called "Real Live Gigs", which not only shows what some gear sounds like @ gigs, but what the gigging world is really like! So thanks for the inspiration, take care!

  • @nunoandradebluesdrive
    @nunoandradebluesdrive 3 года назад +4

    I just got one and tested on a band context sounded so nice, not boxy at all, and thats amazing. In our power trio blues, strat, 15watts was maxed out, but in that context (smaller gigs) it might benefit from the help of a 1x12 or 2x12 speaker, more air being pushed and get some extra headroom - but haven't tried yet. Maybe using it as a head may become an even more versatile little amp. - the best buy in along time. My hrdeville is going to be used only when situations call for something bigger.

    But , as usual, also there is some room for improvements. I have exchanged the cheap (Russian) Fender tubes by TAD quality tubes and the improvement is overwhelming!
    And I have added a 12 inch box with a Celestion V-Type speaker. That is another huge improvement, as it opens the sound in a way I would have never expected. This combination is a real killer at its price level.

    I own 3 a Tweed II & III they sound best with Alnico speakers like P10R, Emni Blue and Celestion Cold. The IV the new one dosn't overdrive as quick as the others. I used these amps in stereo and never had a problem being heard in a live setting. Theses are great for Jams and the studios I've used them in LOVE them easy to Mic and record. Clean they sound like a Vox/Fender and overdriven sound like my Marshall. 20 LBs and 15 watts alot better than carrying a Marshall 4x12 and a Marshall JMP 50 or a Fuchs ODS 100.

    Since the Pro Junior has the same power (15 watts) as the Blues Junior, it could play as loudly if its speaker were equally efficient (produced as much volume per watt.) Tens are normally less efficient than twelves, esp. in the bass, but the Jensen P10R in the PJ can be replaced with something just as efficient as the Celestion A 12 in the Blues Junior. The P10R is rated at 94-95 dbw compared to the Celestion A 12 at 98dbw. If the P10R were replaced with the ten inch Celestion Gold (98dbw) or the ten inch Eminence Rajin Cajun (100.5 dbw) the Pro Junior should go as loud as a Blues Junior IV. Of course, changing the speaker will change the tone and you might not like the change. The Jensen has a good reputation tone-wise.

    I would buy it, but features as particle board cabinet, low quality pcb electronic and el84 instead 6v6 are not my choice

    My 2 cents: It has a sweet vintage-type tone, especially with the Tokai ES335. I agree with demonstrator: there's no need to upgrade that Jensen P10R alnico speaker---it sounds great. Thanks for the video.

    Great review and a superb little amp Shane..how does it compare to the Bugera?

      I think the fender sounds better overall. The burgera is cool because it has different power settings and reverb making it maybe a more versatile home amp. That said I’d take the fender any day!

      I disagree. I'm no pro but all the fender amps I've tried under $1000 (US) sound thin to me. I compared a blues jr to the bugera v22 infinium and bought the bugera. A swap of the tubes in the bugera really brought out the clarity. All in for about $450. I know there are a lot of bugera haters and quality isn't supposed to be as good as fender amps but for me it's works well. I have heard heard some blues jr's that sound very good but they've been modded. I even asked a very experienced luthier/engineer and he agreed that fender amps in that range don't really sound that good stock but really come alive with some mod's. Granted, I haven't tried the specific amp in this review.

    Great tones from that amp Shane!!! It doesn’t really need pedals because the overdriven tone on this amp is all you need!! Fender just take my 💰 💵💵💵💵 and honestly you should send Shane a big fat referral check because he’s the reason I’d buy this amp!!!! Cheers!!!🎸🎸🤙🏾🤘🏽🤙🏾🤘🏽

    I'm seriously considering one of these. If I get one, the first thing I'll do is put on some corner protectors. Fender should have done that...

    Hi Shane, greetings from Germany! This is one great video on this Fender Amp. Can I ask a questionnaires: what is the piece of music called that you play in the first wo minutes of this video? Does it have a title? Or is it just you jamming around a bit of blues? Do you have tabs for this? Thanks and best regards, Pieter

    Jeepers, those lipstick pickups though. Sounds unbelievable. Cool amp, I just always have trouble spending that kind of money on something that can't keep up with a drummer.

    Just looked at the local shop. This amp with 2 knobs, a 10" speaker, and not much else is 599 euros. The latest Blues Junior, also in lacquered tweed, with reverb, Fat channel, and all that wonderful tone of those 12AX7's and EL84's with a 12" speaker, is 606 euros. So 7 euros more and you get the best selling Fender amp in history. What is Fender thinking?

    If you don't mind < 12" speaker the Ibanez TSA5TVR seems a better option.

    My experiences is that Jensen makes okay speakers, but nothing to write home about. Not sure why Fender doesn't just shell a few bucks out more for the celestion. Maybe they want to save that for the "reissue secret special mass produced" version? A celestion greenback or gold will fix alot of issue with some of these amps.

      Cal L I believe most of the classic Fender tweeds from the 50's used Jensen alnico speakers. I love the sound of the alnico magnet with the tweed circuit. Vintage...

    • @MintStiles
      @MintStiles 3 года назад

      @@alex241 I am pretty sure that they are only Jensen in name now-a-days. I'd be very surprised if they are using the same tooling and raw materials.
