Now that is a gentleman with a world of knowledge , these young folks growing up need to learn from these hardworking people for the future before it's too late. God bless you Mr Roberts. This is a great video!
Mr Robert is my kind of guy, thanks for the lessons!
This is the holy grail of blade sharpening :D
I probably never will be involved with this kind of thing but I find videos like these relaxing and just clean for my mind!
That is by far one of the best videos yet on sharpening blades! Thanks great job..
Thank you, we are trying to put out good content on how to run the system. Setting is difficult and it's almost an art form.
I have owned an older Cat Claw Sharpener and single tooth setter since I bought my mill and your video showed me everything I was doing wrong and how to correct it. Thanks..just sharpened the sharpest blades out of my Cat Claw! Can’t wait to see how they cut
I have to tell ya'll..I was a machinist for fifteen years before I got my BSME degree and now I am a retired mechanical engineer. This is one very informative, well done vodeo's I have watched. Robert is a real craftsman and I appreciate his skill. Thanks for putting out a well done video Tom.
We are going to shoot another series on setting and sharpening blades. There's so much to go over and it's hard to get it all in one video.
@@TCSawmills Wow, this just showed up on my timeline at 2:15 AM on 5-10-2022, 2 months after you posted it Tom. Strange timing...but nice to see.
Awesome job, thanks for sharing. Mr Roberts understands good business, customer care and doing the job right. Stay safe and God bless
Thank you. Once I collect a few blades I will send them to Mr. Robert's to be sharpened. New to milling but looking forward to making lumber and having some fun. God bless.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge Mr Robert
Great video! When God made Mr. Robert's he threw away that mold. There's one good ol guy for sure.
Amen to that
Great tutorial and I gained a lot of useful information about blades and sharpening. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the Advice on 10 foot ceilings, I made sure I am doing that.
Oh wow what a great guy and wealth of knowledge, thanks so much to the both for sharing, Mike
Fantastic video, Robert is a super chap
The best and informed video I have ever watched
Great learning video, best explanation of setting and sharpening I've seen. Thank you both for a fun and informative video.
A thousand thumbs up from me, I thank you two Gentlemen for this vid, it has pretty much covered everything I've been wondering about from cleaning, setting and sharping and the taking care of it plus getting the most life from it. WELL DONE ON THIS VIDEO 👍. THANK YOU FOR SHARING.
That was and awesome video!!! Thank you so much for all the information.
I enjoyed your video, I learned alot about managing good life from my blades. Thank you
Very informative, thanks for sharing and my respect to Mr Robert, wise and passionate worker.
Awesome video! Looking at blade sharpening for personal use. This video was quite helpful and a great overall watch. Subscribed!
Best video I've seen on sharpening and setting

I learned a lot from you, and thankyou. Also really enjoyed your video!
WHAT A WONDERFUL AND VERY MUCH NEEDED VIDEO 1000 POINTS FOR SURE THANKS John Morin Milo, Maine

Thank you for the kind words
Thomas this is a excellent video.
You two gentleman are getting it done, very good content and informative info
Thanks again for your experience and time, keep up the excellent work 💯👌💪💪🧡🧡👍
I've watched lots of different videos on timber milling, the information in this video would rank it as the most informative, important and (due to Mr Roberts wit) one of the most enjoyable I've seen! Keep up the good work and I'll watch your back catalogue over here in Scotland. Many thanks, Tom
Thank you for the kind words.
On one of Cooks videos Tim Cook said transmission fluid is the best lubricant for saw blades. I use the Cooks drip lubricator for my blades. I tried TF and it works great. You might also try it in your sponge.
Wow....just WOW!!!
Great video, 👍 I spent the last couple days sharpening and this helps confirm I'm doing a good job... also a big thanks to Mr Robert's I'll be infringing on you wire brush patent as well as the blade lubricater. Again thanks for sharing.
Glad we could help
Man this video is on point. Very detailed, well done! I have been a sawyer for 14 years, and have this same sharpener and setter, and I learned a few tricks! Thank you!
Thank you, we try to put out as much information as possible on how to set and sharpen a bandsaw blade.
How much room size is needed to run the sharpener and dual tooth setter? Average time spent per blade, arrival to ready to ship ?
Got my scales from Mr. Edwards.really nice to have.one on the tool box n one on the mill when it comes next year.really good video.good info for the rookies.i work harder being retired than I ever did working but less hours n alot smarter.
Fantastic, I'm really liking my scale on the mill. My dad loves it too, he uses it just about every time he's cutting dimensional lumber.
Subscribed and I could sit down and chat with Mr. Robert for hours! Very knowledgeable man!
He is pretty awesome, he's been a great friend and mentor over the past 3 years I've known him.
Good info thanks for sharing
Mr Robert, Thanks for the great instructional videos here on RUclips. I am waiting for my Cats Claw Sharpener and two tooth setter from Cook in August. I have made up the electric motor brush cleaner and it works great cleaning rust and debris from the blades. I also made the 3" PVC cap with sponge for mounting once I receive the machinery. Did you mount the cap to the right side metal side plate with machine bolt through cap to hold in place for blade to slide through? I have built white oak and red oak work stations for these to set on in the shop. My sawmill is a Cook MP-32 16' length logs motorized head and motorized carriage. Several folks around us here have Woodmizer LT-15s. I am getting cams for Cook and Woodmizer blades 7/8" 8 degree to start with. Thanks again for sharing your valuable knowledege. Herman from Henrico, VA
I use to do the same thing when I was running my sawmill business. I sharpened saw blades for about 10 or 12 different people one of them was a pallet meal where they had a resaws. I still have my mill it a 1995 LT40HD Woodmizer. I sawed other people logs for lumber for thier self. If it wasn't the fact that I needed insurance for my family I still be sawing lumber today.
iv been on youtube for several years now , this is by far the vary best educational video iv seen on here yet ! im located in western nc ... keep up the good work boys !
Thanks. Be sure to check out my latest videos with Mr. Robert with his new sharpener. He now has 2 woodmizer BMS 250 sharpeners
Thanks for the vids Awesome 🙏🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸
Nice work sir, just bought the woodmizer sharpener and setter ( all automated).
Game changer, cool shop
Mr. Robert has been eyeing the woodmizer automatic setter
Awesome, he would double his production, he probably knows that!
He is amazing, good guy!
I am stihl learning & love it!
Keep me posted?🌳🌲👷♂️👍👍
Subscribe, but run a lt40 wide!
Keep them coming, love your content!
ty I learned alot
I love my timber wolf from 3/8 to 1" works great on my saw
We salvaged an old feed store warehouse in WV that had Bogalusa yellow pine flooring
I have a chain saw mill. It is interesting that there’s is no angle to the grind . Sharpening chain saw ripping blade you angle the grind 10˚ left or right. I realize the teeth re very different , but it is still surprising hat the cutting surface is perpendicular to the blade. Great video , very informative ,thanks !
Timberwolf low tension blade are super nice.
You know, I thought both of y'all were taller!
Great intro video for me, have a good one
We are both pretty tall, I'm 6'4" 😆
The synthetic ruby rocks are superb they hold their shape well and last way longer than ordinary rocks
Lovely machine for sarpaning the timber blade for sawing.
I thought I knew a lot about sharpening, wow.
Hoid the two wrenches together and pull on both and this stabilizes the turn and off comes the nut very easy instead of banging it, tighten the same way.
His shoulder was injured and couldn't make the move comfortably.
Yeah...Good. Cheers.
New video will be out soon where we go over some new equipment.
Nice fellow!
Yes he is, always teaches something new.
grate video we all could learn a lot from you like if your going to do it do it right thanks
Great video,Robert mentioned that mitterhammer bandsaw blades are best, where exactly can they be purchased online.
The blades he likes were the Munkfors blade that they carried. You can get them from Robert McMillan at Kenne-SAW blades. They are really good blades. Here's the video testing them.

Great video.
That setter looks a lot easier than my Woodmizer single side setter.
You ring the wheel before you mount it to make sure it is should. Should give a clear ring not a dull sound. Do you not like the CBN wheels.
Could you add contact information for the meisenheimer blades?
Hello. I bought this Cooks equipment for my own use. Can you ask Mr. Robert what dimensions he built the table that he mounted his equipment to???
Thanks,
Kenney
Love your video and thank you for sharing.

I'm looking at getting into sharpening my own blades, so I have a few questions if you don't mind.
What kind of brushes is Mr Robert running on his blade cleaner and can a cbn wheel be used on the cat claw ?
Thanks
Shanen Mannies
We are just using some wire wheels we had, 2 of them sandwiched together. Don't believe a CBN wheel would work on a cooks due to there not being any cutting fluid and the design of the cam sweeping the blade. He now has 2 woodmizer BMS 250 sharpening systems in addition to his catclaw.
Wondering where he got the wide wire wheel. Would like to dial in and perfect the setting and sharpening. If you don't have a good blade you don't have a saw mill. Thanks for taking the time to share this info. WoodMizer LT50HDD47
We have a new series on sharpening. The first few videos are live now.
Any preference on setter sharpener brand?
This was very informative! I don't have sharpener yet but see this is very very helpful!
Thanks!
Cooks cat claw setter and sharpener, just like what we have in the video
@@TCSawmills Thank you sir!
Cooks will have that tool for sale next year or timber king.
Learned a lot. Thank y'all for taking the time! Whereabouts in South MS are y'all? We're over in Covington county.
George County Mississippi in the town of Lucedale.
@@TCSawmills Pretty country down there. Used to ride through a lot for work. Good stuff! 💪🏼
i did subscribed you just now and hit like you made a great video, can you please make video for push mower blade sharpening
Woodland Mill Blades are hard to beat.
Complimenti ragazzo io ne ho uno costruito artigianalmente da me certamente non paragonabile al tuo però dopo diversi aggiornamenti x me personalmente uso casalingo mi funziona bene comunque siamo in pochi a dedicarci In questo compreso tornitura legno ecc 😊
Very good video are you going to put any information out on the timber King Setter and sharpener
Yes I am, we have the video on the sharpener setup just needs to be uploaded. I'll be working on the setter one soon.
@@TCSawmills thank you that would be awesome the setter I do not have any instructions on it and it will probably be a big help
Amen to mr. Roberts comment at the end, retirement Ha! I turned 70 o1/03/23, I have more work than the law should allow, now to find work that pays,,,hehe! Stumbled on to your site by looking for what is the best and most cost efficient for my hobby metal saws. I have used lennox, over the years, but most creators claim L.S. Starrett blades like their Bear Claw would be the best. Send me your thoughts in a comment please. Fill free to subscribe to my humble channel, loved to have you on board. Please give my best to mr. Roberts, his a Hoot :)> Bear in Tx.
Subscribed, I unfortunately don't know enough about metal cutting blades to make an informed decision. I'm all about bandsaw blades for logs, I'll ask Mr. Robert on his take.
Very informative, but I would change the cam and grinding wheels without a blade in the rig.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I have snapped a few teeth off of Ripper 37 blades while setting. Is this usually caused by the anvils pushing too close to the tip of the tooth? Or too far down (towards the gullet)??
From Mr.Robert:
Too close to the tip is the more common cause . Blades vary in hardness: never set your anvils too close to the tip. Start your set with at least 1/16 of the tooth above the anvil. You may have to drop down even farther. If you have dial indicators on your setter, check to see that you are not over setting. If you have stationary indicators on your setter, recheck the set with a handheld indicator.
Ripper blades are one of my favorite blades to set.
Hope this is helpful.
@@TCSawmills Tell Mr. Robert thank you from me! This helps. I have the same sharpener/setter that he does (cooks cat claw sharpener, and cooks dual tooth setter). I recently switched to Rippers and the first 2 blades I tried to set, I broke 5 or 6 teeth off, and was not sure what I was doing wrong. The next ones I try to set, I will raise the blade so that the anvils are lower down on the teeth. I set at 18-20 thousanths. Thanks again!
do you set the teeth before you sharpen the blade or after it is sharpened
We always clean, set then sharpen in that order. If you sharpen before you could have metal pieces influence the dial indicators on the setter.
Like the "patented tool"!
I believe the tk ultramax are 10 degree? You can re sharpen them to 8 or 6 degree?
Yes you can, we did it all the time.
great video. How can I contact Mr Robert to sharpen my bandsaw blades? thanks
Nice job, try and stop laughing at things you say. I think the 80 grit rock is the best grit for a smooth finish.
So does Mr Robert's not perfer the cooks blades? I just bought the mp32 and my local company in ohio can't sharpen the blades, I assume he don't have the cam for them.
He is good with the cooks blades but not the super hard ones. I think the excel blades were the ones I was using and they did OK on setting. Even if the cam is not exactly right you can conform the blade to match the cam after 2 passes. There is a company in New York that can make you a custom cam based on measurements you provide. If you want their info I can get it from Mr Robert.
Do you roll blades ?
If you can see any reflection on tip of tooth, it's dull.. If blade sounds angry, it's dull..
Give blade a shot of oil/diesel while still spinning on mill just before removing. It will clean blade & protect it until sharpening..
Please forgive me if I am silly but...Blades are made by first cutting the tooth and gullet. That process causes the sharpening of teeth. Then the teeth are set left, right and left center. So the sharpened edges are twisted away from when formed. In contrast,,,,,We sharpen a dull blade with the teeth set. So our sharpened teeth derive a very different (and uniform) cut angle. This does not seem to be what occurred initially during blade formation,. Am I incorrect?
Just watching and realized that Robert is Bob Newhart Doppelganer. !!!

where do you get grinding rocks other than from Cooks?
Cooks is the main source. Mr.Robert has gotten some from other locations, but cooks seems to be the most reliable.
what is the cost of sharpening a blade like this, (size) ???
How can I send bands in to be sharpened and what do you charge?
In the description section is Mr. Robert's contact information. His prices vary on blade length.
I'm curious as to which grinding wheel worked the best.
He has 3 types he has used red, light blue and dark blue. The dark blue one from cooks is his favorite. Lasts a long time and Sharpens the blade well.
@@TCSawmills Thank you, that's the one I use. I see Cooks has the pink/red, and I believe a black one, but they sent the blue ones with the sharpener.
I wish he would use a "mask "of some sort , The stone and metal fine fillings are in the air , My dad after doing this for years developed the big C in his airway .Great video ,Thanks
you need a hook hanging down from above . so you dont need to invert
how much do you compensate for spring-back of the teeth
The dial indicators are one throw after the anvils so as long as they are reading the desired set you are good to go.
Good to see the whole tooth profile being ground out, some videos show the tooth face only being ground which for the life of me just doesn't make sense, can anybody help me out on this one please?
By sweeping the whole profile you are dead heading any micro cracks. You don't need to do too much but a little goes a long way and provides a better cutting blade that lasts longer. I have no idea why people only hit the tooth face.
Where you located? I live around the Hattiesburg area, a small town called Sumrall. I’m thinking about getting a sawmill and will need someone to sharpen blades. And what do you charge for sharpening?
Ok I asked before getting to the end of the video.
I think I put his card in the video, give ole Robert a call. He's a hoot to talk to.
@@TCSawmills yeah, I saw the card at the end. Thanks
Are you doing sharpening shop business?
What about the Ripper 37 ???
Check out our video on blade talk.
ruclips.net/video/X4hQ6IveiXc/видео.html
How much is the price
Can we have contact information for Mr Robert’s?
It's in the description of the video, email and phone.
Are the cooks blades a harden blade?
They have a lot of different blades they offer. Some are hard some only slightly hardened.
Cooks tends to be a bit thicker, I like that too
Where is your shop
We are in Lucedale Mississippi
