- Sheryl Crow, Chris Stapleton, and Dave Matthews Join Willie Nelson for a Jam. Incredibly, 90-year-old Willie Nelson is still not only performing but playing acoustic guitar, too. But he always did stand out from the crowd and buck trends. “Now that Johnny Cash and I have been inducted, I want to give a plug for Waylon [Jennings] and Kris [Kristofferson],” Nelson said, urging Rock Hall voters to induct his fellow Highwaymen.
The country outlaw turned elder statesman sang three of his most beloved songs “Whiskey River” with Chris Stapleton; “Crazy” with fellow inductee Sheryl Crow (3:20); and “On the Road Again” (6:25) with Dave Matthews, Crow, and Stapleton. It was a touching, impressive showing from a man who began writing classics 60-some years ago and continues to inspire artists, activists, and tokers to this day.
The other artists inducted into the 2023 Hall of Fame were Kate Bush, Sheryl Crow, Missy Elliott, George Michael, Rage Against the Machine, the Spinners, DJ Kool Herc, Link Wray, Chaka Khan, Al Kooper, Bernie Taupin and Don Cornelius.

It sure was a different country when these performers dominated the FM DIAL! The 8-Track Days….The elaborate ornate great home console, had family photos hand made doilies on it…you peel that back open the top and you were the DJ! The thing took up half a living room cost as much AS the Living Room😳😆! Then the last of the best Americans after Church and the huge gathering at the table…led to the tired sisters and Grandmothers washing dishes till 4pm serving paper plate leftovers and the dads uncles and Grandpaws nodding and stretched out in the shade.. then…..the kids would sneak into all the cool cars which in that precious time all had windows rolled down and keys in ignition! Now days that’s the worst thing to do at a “family” event after church even if you are white! 😳 BUT LETS REMINISCE…We kids would infiltrate the cars and totally consume the 8-Track religion! The huge clumsy mechanical buttons, the loud crashing/clattering sound…and super human strength it took to change out the cartridges! Pull, yank, twist then reinsert align noisily, slam it in then shuck it to the songs you wanted. Hell, dumping the canister on a naval gunship torrent loading and shoving another shell sounded the same! They were all occupied and we were crouch floor board level digging the heroes of our time that interpreted the circumstances of Life into the language of song! The icing on the cake was Jerry Clower! Then Cheech and Chong..”Pedro at the Drive In” And for battle hardened 8-Track bandits the dirty joke tapes, and the playboy books under the seats…with the Bible’s laying in the back window!! Now that’s when We had a sense of purpose! Then we got our asses busted when we got caught!!😂😂😂
