By far the worst part of the sport, especially the people that can never shut up about them. Rule should be completely redesigned. No foot fault anyone has ever complained about in a comment section ever actually impacted an outcome. Literally never.
Need to start being able to review video footage for stuff like this!!! Not fair for some of these. Like king, missy drove with her foot horizontal, after the disc is out of your hand, it doesnt matter what happens with your body right!!??
Foot faults need to be removed or redesigned entirely as a rule. None of these impacted an outcome at all and people complaining about extremely trivial crap like that makes the sport look so insanely dumb and bad.
It will never be a sport that is taken seriously as long as people act like foot faults even matter. Nothing worse than people that complain about foot faults. You're like the non-basketball fans that call everything in basketball a travel while being wrong about it. You drag the sport down.
This is such a weird take, where your disc lays after its thrown is important, if you want to have a comfortable position to throw from then throw better drives or be an adult and follow the rules when you walk up to putt...it really isnt hard to not footfault@derpderpin1568
I mean they run up and have to hit a paper size box, if your shoe taps the lie disc, what does that even do, Half an inch of distance gained, when they could mark it and be over 8 inches closer!!!!
Yep. No 'foot fault' has ever actually mattered or impacted an outcome. The people that constantly watch to complain for them are by far the worst part of disc golf and it's not even close.
Professional disc golf needs officials, full stop. It's stupid to expect cardmates to call out fellow players for violations and I can't think of another pro sport that does anything similar. The fact that the players are often good friends makes it even worse.
@@playdiscgolf1546 I think it's possible and if not they should just get rid of foot fault rules and the like. No way am I calling out my buddy for a minor violation during a tournament and I'm sure that's common.
@@doughorner5730 Difficult to get 30-40 voluntary officials to a tournament. Every group or every hole would need one and also back-ups because they need to have restroom and lunch breaks. No one would go there if they would assign to work non-stop from 8 am. to 9 pm.
Paige guilting everyone for not staring at her putt is just bizarre. Do we really want the whole card gazing at each appendage before every putt? Also outside the circle who cares if its close.
Technically it's their responsibility. Whether you like it or not, they wouldn't have had to have more discussion if they'd been watching as the rules require.
The rules state that each player on the card must watch each throw to make sure it's legal, otherwise it's a warning, then a penalty. 812 B 2 "(Each player must:) Watch the other members of the group throw in order to ensure rules compliance and to help find discs.". The rules clearly state that you MUST gaze at each appendage before and during each putt, so yes, they do want that.
Yeah really, imagine people who are suppose to enforce the rules of the game actually watching the others players, amirite? So Bizarre that they should be engaged and pay attention so people dont cheat. The bizarre part is that the players have to enforce their own rules.
PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT DIFFERENCE IT MAKES WHAT YOU DO ONCE YOU HAVE THROWN THE DISC? ONCE YOU RELEASE THE DISC YOU HAVE NO CONTROL OF THE FLIGHT....
One kind of extreme example. You are putting to a heavy wind and distance is 15 ft. In a heavy wind that is a tough putt. Without foot fault rule you can jump and dunk the disc into the basket if you are allowed to hold the disc after planting foot comes off. With that rule players must keep the planting foot (or any part of the body behind the lie) on the ground and no body contact to ground ahead of the lie. So they can't jump and dunk.
"stepped on the dirt, you can see the footprint" literally didn't step on the dirt, stop calling foot faults that absolutely don't give any benefit to the player
I hate this grey area around foot faults. There’s so much grey area that people when they see it won’t actually call it out. If an individual does there’s a chance that the card will just ignore it. It’s freakin stupid. Need clear ruling and more accountability for when there’s actually a foot fault.
You already received a reply to this, but one additional comment. It is very difficult to find about 30-40 officials to a bigger tournament. That is about how many groups there are. At least in Finland it is difficult to find even 2 officials and those are usually TD and assistant TD. It is difficult to find spotters too so usually additional officials are also spotters. There should be a pool of officials listed by PDGA who would get a training once a year for new rules and common way of working to align what to do. They should get daily allowance or something. To make it more professional. This is just my opinion. So there are not enough voluntary officials to do that. And without a video and slow motion it is difficult to be 100% sure, but of course those would not be called.
why are foot faults even a thing when they've never once mattered or impacted anything? the rule shouldn't even exist. the only thing it adds to the sport is worthless people like you that spam complaints about foot faults on all disc golf content while being wrong about it anyways.
It's really sad that people call things with certainty when they are literally wrong (I'm thinking of Thomas Gilbert, who seem like a nice guy overall) , if I see something I always need to double check before being certain, nothing in reality is 100% true, not even science, everything is an approximation
Unless the person calling the foot fault is a known ass-hat, I always second it. I'll only call a foot-fault if it's obvious or if someone is pushing the limit to get around an obstacle. I've SHOWN guys the mark on the ground where their foot was off the tee-pad and they still want to argue with me. Unless the caller is only a stroke or two behind the one being called, give the caller some back up.
Nikko was in the right there, but he's also been known to try to push the boundaries of his lie to see what he can get away with. At least he used to when you would get a warning and a rethrow.
Yeah Barry Schultz is an asshole, it's not like he didn't have time to call it before the putt is made, literally just waiting to add strokes for Nikko like a baby, play like gentlemen and reasonable human beings please
I partly disagree. Those are called so rarely that those don't ruin anything. 99% of the foot faults are not even called. I agree that if there is no advantage and it is not done on purpose, don't call it. Rule still needs to be there to avoid e.g. jumping and dunking putts. Ricky for example benefited from his foot fault. He got a better angle to throw by throwing farther away from his lie.
1:36 - Typical Mcbeth .. calling a fault when there wasn't one. Dude thinks he's god and everyone should just bow to his greatness and knowledge. And again at 6:19 calling Simon for a foot fault on the tee drive when there wasn't a fault. Yes ... Simon's foot hit the dirt at the end of the tee pad ... AFTER he released the disc. McBeth needs to just stop ... just stop.
Too many players in these clips TALKING about foot faults instead of owning it and actually CALLING the foot fault, if you believe another player violated the rules of competition then make the call or don't, and the PDGA's backwards thinking solution is to change the rules. Also, nothing worse than someone trying to call another player on a rules violation when they can't even articulate the rule.
My mini has a tent stake, that sucker will not move. But seriously, if we're voting here, i say, calm down on the foot faults unless its flagrant or chronic. Suggestion, rather than a 10 x 30cm rectangle, how about a circle or triangle, the size described by 3 or 4 discs. 🥏 🥏 🥏🥏 🥏🥏 🥏🥏🥏 🥏
