Hi Brian. I have a 2017 Highlander Hybrid. My Car battery is dead, and Fob won't unlock door. I inserted Slide Key, turned clockwise: big surprise, door lock won't open. I used the slide key once before, without a hitch. Might you have a suggestion? PS, thanks for yoir many very helpful videos!
Hey nice video again man! Just wondering is your truck lock when you use the key to open it? Or did you unlock alarm first before using the key to open it?Why is your alarm not alarming you that someone open your door? Thank you
Thanks! Ok so if you’re speaking about this video, the truck was locked (the fob was deactivated) and I used the key to get in. The alarm wouldn’t go off because I used the trucks key to get inside. The alarm only goes off if the truck is opened without the key or remote. That counts as a break in. The slide out key is made specifically for my truck. Each key fob has a specific key to each car. Same as a house key. But for every day life, I just tap any button to reactivate my fob before leaving the house, and then simply enjoy the convenience of grabbing the door handle to unlock it thanks to my smart key. Hope that helps!
If the key and fob got separated somehow and now all I have is the key....the fob fell on the ground or is lost in the house somewhere. Is there anyway to start the car with just the little metal key?
Please is it possible to start the vehicle without the fob....I lost my key fod and cant find it.... It's a year now....The vehicle is a 2010 VX Land Cruiser keyless Start.

Hi Brian, I have a 2016 Hilux 2.8D automatic. the engine start/stop button doesn't work. I recharged the car battery and the key fob battery is good to unlock/lock doors. Back in May this year I had found a video with a trick to start the truck but unfortunately can't put my hands on it today. I vaguely remember it was a short succession of pressing the start button releasing it and then again with or w/o pressing on the brake pedal. just like the last time this occurred I've noticed the brake pedal harder than anytime before when I could start it. last time with the trick at one time the brake pedal became slightly softer and the truck started then and again after that. Any idea that could get me out of this before the local mechanic tells me I need a few new expensive parts? Stuck near Cape York, northern part of Australia right now. Cheers mate!

Unfortunately, before I found my old FOB, the locksmith who programmed a new key FOB, deactivated my lost original FOB. First you save on battery life since the remote is no longer transmiting and this also will not allow any thieves to copy the transmiting code. Anyone with the correct equipment can copy the code and put it in another fog.
So this should be a theft deterrent since there are so many Toyota/Lexus Key hacks? Really since you work there maybe inquire with the technicians etc, corporate because I read in the news a lot of unattended Toyota’s are being stolen right out of driveways in a few minutes. If I buy a Toyota I want to prevent the possibility. Thanks
Yes. I have a video about how it works and how to do it. I have inquired about this which is how I learned this. The deactivation was the solution given by the techs and corporate reps. My video on it will show you exactly how it works and how to do it.
Also, I did some research on your claim about the news reports. It seems that was a big flare up in Ottawa. It hasn’t been a chronic issue ever for Toyota. In fact, though Toyota does make the list of top stolen cars, their numbers are about half of their competition (Honda). Check out this list from 2020: 1. Honda Civic - Number of Thefts: 38,426 2. Honda Accord - Number of Thefts: 36,815 3. Ford Pickup (Full-size) - Number of Thefts: 36,355 4. Chevrolet Pickup (Full-size) - Number of Thefts: 31,566 5. Toyota Camry - Number of Thefts: 16,906 6. Nissan Altima - Number of Thefts: 13,284 7. Toyota Corolla - Number of Thefts: 12,388 8. GMC Pickup (Full size) - Number of Thefts: 11,708 9. Dodge Pickup (full size) - Number of Thefts: 11,226 10. @@runningbuffalo4326 Yes you do what you can. If you are new to the Toyota brand, all I can say is, Toyota culture goes deep. Kaizen (always getting better over time) is a big deal to Toyota and it’s true team members. It is a family. We love Toyota’s because of their reliability, dependability, and durability. Toyota is the only brand I’ve seen really listen to it’s customers and have a gateway to communicate with them. It’s also the only brand I’ve seen honor such a huge recall for so many years (the truck frame recall). So if you’re on the fence, I’m always here to guide you and inform you. Deactivating the key is a very strong form of theft protection. But with almost every single new Toyota coming standard with Safety Connect, and many with remote connect, the vehicles location is monitored vis GPS which helps with recovery, God forbid needed. I hope you watch my video “Attention all Toyota Owners” and read the comments and have faith in giving the brand a try. You might stay for life!
What if neither key fob will lock or unlock the car but when you open the car the alarm goes off? It refuses to start & fog has no impact on how long the alarm goes off.

So i accidentally washed my key remote. I am able to start the car. But the “key not detected“ sign still comes on after I drive away. Any suggestions on that?
Yea I’m just concerned it won’t do what I need it to do. Theoretically, when the battery dies, it has just enough juice left to slightly bump the signal when the fob is pushed against the push start button. Taking the battery out wouldn’t let me demonstrate that. But still might be worth trying!
@@brianruperti The fella in a video titled "How to start your Toyota if your key fob battery is dead #shorts" took the battery out and accomplished the same trick. (The link is a mile long) Thanks. Subbed.
For a minute, I thought your three years was up and you didn’t pay the subscription plan for the key fob since Toyota wants to do a subscription plan for that.
Nope. After the 3 years (with Audio plus) or 10 years (with Premium Audio) you then have to subscribe to Remote Connect to continue the option from the fob.
@@brianruperti Yeah. Something like that. Where I’m from, Continental Subaru and Honda started a subscription based battery program with a company called ‘foreverstart’ where you pay $75 every three years which apparently covers the battery and the auto start. Steve Lehto’s channel informed me about Toyota’s practice on the key fob thing. I think they are backpedaling on it due to the bad press they’re getting on it. From what I heard, it doesn’t roll onto the next owner so if someone buys it used, they have to immediately start with the subscription pay for the key fob. If it was on the phone, or something third party like the XM radio it would be a different story.

Ive read some threads where theives are able to make a copy of the fob using a device they insert through the OBD port.
Do you know if we can disable the obd port by removing a fuse?
Would relocating an OBD port and installing a mock up port void the warranty?
Appreciate your videos by the way. Will definitely do this when I get my RAV4.
I do not recommend altering the OBD port but do so at your own risk.
@@brianruperti I think I’ll stick to this + a good old steering wheel lock. 😝
Online you can find locks for the ODB port. or get a fake port and tuck the real one back and away.
Lol "they " don't need to insert anything 🤣 If they want it and have knowledge they will get it. Everything you own is sending signals that can be and are being copied and manipulated. Is available some box to block signal of the key, instead of click on it twice? If you get in and out of the car to many times at the day maybe is a little anoying doing it, can a box help to block it?
Faraday pouch is what you are referring to
@@brianruperti thanks for your answer, in fact yesterday I saw one, would you recommend it? Or it can damage the key or in the future damage the signal to turn on the car?
You’re welcome. Faraday pouches can’t damage your key. It just blocks the signal when it is inside. Just be sure to test it out to make sure it’s really working for you.
Damn I was going to take my to the dealer. Lost my key snowmobiling in salt lake had to get a new key made. The spare doesn't work anymore. Going to try this on it. Thanks

How close does the keyfob have to be to the Tacoma for you to start it?
To start the engine the key must be inside the truck. Will not start if key is outside.

What is that little metal square with numbers on it attached to the keychain? My 4Runner came with it too. Not sure what it is, or if I need to retain it.

Do I need to remember to deactivate to fob every time I unlock the car?
Yes
Thanks Brian. What should I do with the spare FOB safely hidden inside house? If it is in off position, will stay in off even when I activate and deactivate my original Fob on daily basis?

When one is off it is not effected by the other fob.

My fob suddenly stoped working and i replaced battery but still my Toyota didn't start. What can I do?
Make sure the fob is assembled correctly.
Should I replaced fob with new one? One day it just stopped working and when I open my truck with key,the alarm goes off and my engine doesn't start. I tried programming old fob but it doesn't program. Shouldn't my engine start without fob? What could be the problem?
Thank you for sharing this video! I know this is an old video, but it was very informative. I tried this, and it didn't for my highlander. Does anyone have any tips to try n get it back activated. Hi ,can you help us regarding uploading of my country map (Pakistan) in navigation system of my Toyota aqua crossover model 2018 imported from Japan, moreover can we change Japanese to English in dashboard display, thanks
So your menu button should bring up a range of options with “settings” or “setup” being one of them.
When you select that, you can go to your navigation setting which will help pick the country.
From settings/setup you can also select language.
I hope that helps

I have two key fobs from my old totaled 2015 Prius. I bought another 2015 Prius and want to “reprogram” the old fobs to use on my latest Prius. Is it possible?
Probably. I would call a local key smith or dealer for info on this
Can anyone answer if I need to reprogram a key fob I think, that already works but doesn’t work as a remote start anymore after I changed the key fobs battery’s will this reprogram the key fob?
You likely need to have the fob reprogrammed to the car
Hey Patrick thanks for reaching out. Try turning the slider key the other way or turning and holding for a few sec in each direction.
Much Thanks for these key fab videos Bro.
You’re welcome my brother
Unfortunately no
Please is it possible to start the vehicle without the fob....I lost my key fod and cant find it.... It's a year now....The vehicle is a 2010 VX Land Cruiser keyless Start.
Not possible
Thanks Brian, good info. I have a 2021 RAV

Yes u can start your vehicle with a dead batttery just hold your key fob up to your push to start button
So, once you deactivate the key, you have to use physical one or can you just press the key to unlock the car as you did at the end?
Pressing a button re activates it

Hi
I tried this but it didn’t work. When I am inside of the car and press lock the car button. Nothing happens. I tried the spare key too and I tried replacing the battery but it didn’t help. Any advice? Much appreciated
My 1st new rig was a 2018 taco. Just traded for a 2021 taco. The fob thing is the same on both. Makes me nervous. I always wonder what happens when the battery dies. You can't keep the backup fob in the truck if you ever want to lock it. Someone smarter than myself needs to come up with a workaround.
I believe when the battery dies there is just enough juice to connect the chip to the push start button.

Yes try to put the key fob back together best you can, and tape it with pressure, if you’re lucky, the signal will work for now with the fob in tact.
Hi Brian another great video 👍👍
Thanks so much for your support 🙏🏼
Hey sorry mate not quite sure what you have going on over there. Cheers
Learnt another new skill and will show it off to friends

What is the purpose of deactivating the keyfob in the first place?
Watch this for explanation ruclips.net/video/3Wmr1VPU8cw/видео.html
@@brianruperti well I guess that’s all one can do
Thanks
Also, I did some research on your claim about the news reports. It seems that was a big flare up in Ottawa. It hasn’t been a chronic issue ever for Toyota. In fact, though Toyota does make the list of top stolen cars, their numbers are about half of their competition (Honda).
Check out this list from 2020:
1. Honda Civic - Number of Thefts: 38,426
2. Honda Accord - Number of Thefts: 36,815
3. Ford Pickup (Full-size) - Number of Thefts: 36,355
4. Chevrolet Pickup (Full-size) - Number of Thefts: 31,566
5. Toyota Camry - Number of Thefts: 16,906
6. Nissan Altima - Number of Thefts: 13,284
7. Toyota Corolla - Number of Thefts: 12,388
8. GMC Pickup (Full size) - Number of Thefts: 11,708
9. Dodge Pickup (full size) - Number of Thefts: 11,226
10. Jeep Cherokee/Grand Cherokee - Number of Thefts: 9,818
@@brianruperti yes. I live in Canada and I am 4h from Ottawa. I am looking at getting a 4Runner so at least it helps. Thanks!

Thank you!😊
You’re welcome!
I think it takes years and years for the battery in the key fob to die.
So you might want to just remove the battery for the next video. 🙂
I tried it and this didn’t work for me 😭
