I converted from being a Catholic to Orthodoxy. I just had enough of Pope’s that change the sacred scriptures to his view and goes with Government narratives that are against the teachings of the Bible. The Orthodox Church has changed absolutely nothing since the time of Jesus and maintains the sacred traditions of the Church and its teachings. The Liturgy is so beautiful and you feel so much closer to God

Show me in the apostles or ante nicene fathers, prayers to saints. The theotokos, and veneration of icons.

Read 2 maccabees chapter 15:12-14 for some OT context. Prayers to Elijah were common as well (as at Christ's crucifixion).

@ I have my issue isn’t the practice but the mandating of it on pains of anathema as well as anathematizing all who believe Jesus ate unleavened bread? That’s really a gospel issue to you? I encourage everyone to read the synodikon , the degree of dositheus and the 7th ecumenical council.

@@davidthenewtheologian7757 i get ya, it can be hard to understand these decrees from a protestant perspective. There is a large body of pre nicene prayers to saints, however the church only dogmatizes practices (Theotokos and icon veneration, leavened bread, etc.) when sufficient challenges to the tradition arise. We are not like the catholics who invent binding doctrine on a whim

@ large body of pre nicene prayers to saints? It is clear they anathematize to hell all who’s disagrees with them. Not to mention the council of Heria said they were guided by the Holy Spirit too. But is it truly a gospel Issue?

@@davidthenewtheologian7757 anathema simply means 'lifted up' or in plain meaning delivered to God. We don't condemn anyone to hell, only Christ can do that. And yes, just as Christ is the icon of the father, the icons represent the prototype depicted on them. Refusal to venerate them is (for orthodox christians that is) a denial of what they represent and a rejection of the Gospel

The Catholic Church has lost its way unfortunately but I believe God guided me to Orthodoxy and I no longer feel the pain of change and have embraced the sacred traditions of the Orthodox Church.
