A simple design adjustment can address the light angle issue when doing uphill or downhill. They can make the light tilt higher when it's torquing, and lower when negative torquing. By the principal of equivalency, the wheel doesn't know whether it's going uphill or accelerating.

Awesome video. Thanks Marty very helpful. One thing I did which you didnt is a free wheel spin to check how true the tire was seated. @@ElectricUnicycles Is there any earlier Veteran Sherman that do not support bluetooth communication? I have a few of different EUC and only Sherman giving me trouble to connect to EUC World App.

If EUC World shows zero devices than there's a possibility that the Bluetooth module is not fully seated into the control board, or is bad. You can open the top panel and inspect the condition of the Bluetooth module. They can be replaced if necessary.
Marty, is there a way to balance the tire, once you've changed the tire or tube? I saw Koji rolls change his sherman tire to a smooth road tire and it now has a wop due to being unbalanced.
For most punctures it does not make a mess. Only comes out enough to fix the hole. If the puncture is big enough that Slime can't fix it, then Slime can be a "little" messy. It's never been an issue with the 20+ wheels that I've used it on.
Hi, Marty. Hope this message finds you well. I'm hoping you can recommend peak A delivery alarm settings for the sherman.. I ride aggressive and with my weight and tilt back off I'd like to have a current delivery alarm to my Bluetooth. Do you agree with that approach to avoid cut out speeds? Thanks!
IMO, monitoring amperes will do nothing towards avoiding a cutout. Using a current alarm is useful for preventing motor/wire burnouts due to excessive power draw over time, such as what can occur while climbing hills over an extended time period. For those purposes, probably ~120-amps is a useful value. If current could be useful in preventing cutouts, I would have zero insight into what values would represent a problem.
Hi Marty, I love you review of the Veteran Sherman, and the setup video. What you didn't talk about is the Riding mode and the Calibration that much. As a beginner, I will like to know what mode to set up my Sherman to? I am one of those take it easy rider who like to use the Sherman for a commuting less than 15 to 30 miles a day to work. I also like to ride at 15 to 20 miles an hour. I hope you can tell that, I'm not one for the riding at high speed type of guy. So let me know what riding mode to set up the Sherman, and also tilting forward and backward (from 1 to 5) and (from -1 to -5). Again, thank you for your setup video. You are right on the money n and I can wait to start riding the wheel.
Riding mode is very personal. I find that most people (including myself) enjoy hard mode the most. But I know people who prefer the softer modes. There is no best answer. It's so simple to change, why not experiment yourself. I only add a backward tilt if I will be going down a very steep hill for and extended period. +2-degrees.
It is not possible to turn off the low-power alarm. So when you hear the beeper sounding, slow down. It represents 70% maximum power being used, and the value decreases as the remaining battery level lowers.
Hello~ Thank you for the detailed explanation^^ I have a question, but I'm not sure what kind of calibration the level-calibration means.. Can you tell me in detail? And when charging, the temperature goes up, so please let me know how high it blocks the charge.
Marty, since you've disabled the tilt-back and speed alarm, will you still be able to hear the beeps when the wheels reaches 80% power, like the Gotway? Thanks.
The tiltback and alarm settings seem to skip the speeds most riders would actually want. It jumps from 36.1mph to OFF (173.9mph). On a "50mph" wheel, I'd want to set tiltback to be something in like 45mph and an alarm in the around 40mph. Am I missing something?
@@JonS It is what it is. Same limits apply to Gotway wheels. Most people I know turn off the tilt-back and alarms anyway. Newbies that enable these speeds will not be traveling that fast.
With the speed alarm turned off (173.9 mph), the Sherman will now beep at 80% of motor output. So if on a full charge, that will be about 43-45 mph. As your battery gets lower, the beeps will self adjust to a lower and lower mph. As far as turning off the tiltback (173.9 mph), the tiltback stays off at all times. Hope this helps you.
Why did you put the side pads so "high-up?" Or is that the normal level its suppose to be? Some videos show side pad being put above the pedals.? Sorry I'm new to this. And thanks for the videos!!!
The stock pads, as I show in detail in the video, are designed to precisely sit in upper region of the shell. For these pads that is a good placement since they are only used for acceleration and braking. Many other aftermarket pads are placed lower to provide leverage for your feet so you can jump the wheel. If you see some of my other Sherman videos you will see different pads on my Sherman and how they are placed. I was only demonstrating the placement of the stock pads in this video. I don't use the stock pads on my Sherman's and many other people don't either.
Hi Mark. Click the upper right button to cycle through the display. When you're viewing the trip miles, click and hold the button until it beeps and clears the counter.
@@ElectricUnicycles i believe its possible but not done in some wheels. I believe firmware code should read. Accelerate until voltage drops then tilt back. Example the sherman set to tilt back at 58.2kph does not only tilt back at that speed but also tilts back at slower and slower speeds as voltage drops. As demo by wrong way proved. So wheel can be progrsmed to engauge tilt back based on voltage drop. So i believe i should be able to set tilt back speed to 190kph. Then speed up toward 190kph until voltage drops then be tilted back. I might get to 89kph before the voltage cant keep up then get tilted back. It can be programed based on voltage wrong way demo proved it does that. It does not have to be based on speed. Wrong ways demo proves it.
@@WillofNewZealand Sure, anything is possible. But the reality is that Veteran and Gotway do not write their firmware how you would prefer that they do.
@@ElectricUnicycles my hope is to write my own then. Or find who does. I have z10 mod i can put in that enables it to carry rider to 58kph. Thats the same speed as an expensive sherman. I hear getting into sherman firmware might have been made dificult. Actual tested range is 153km. Maybe i should go back to looking at s20. It could be faster out of box. Firmware accessable. Range claimed 150km. Suspention. Is it the better wheel. Hum. I was about to buy sherman but im wavering now.
Just got mine today! Not as easy as everyone makes it looks. That's for sure. Probably not the best for a newbie but I have a feeling I won't have a need to upgrade. Lol Question, Is there a way to turn down or off the beeping everytime it falls down?
@@ElectricUnicycles Nvm to my surprise I got this riding thing down way faster than I had thought. It just clicked! Needed about 100 ft and once you get up to about 10-14 mph I was able to relax. Yes, I know about the dual use of the tire gauge. I still love my Nikola for general purpose riding, the MSP for trails, and the Veteran for cruising.
do you think that the original veteran accent, which is on top of the motherboard, can harm the motherboard itself or some internal part of the unicycle? Congratulations for the beautiful work, I follow all the videos here in Brazil!
That's a tough call because it depends on how you ride and your desired comfort level. Certainly nothing lower than 30 (to prevent possible rim damage). Some people go up to 45. I would experiment which is easy enough to do. Good luck
Ah... nice to revisit this great vid now that I received my very own spankin’ new Sherman! Thanks Marty. Also, did you end up putting tyre sealant in your tyres? What do you reckon? Thoughts? :)

☝️Embarrassing as it is to say. My only two flats were from not checking my tire pressure when I first received my 2 wheels KS18S N Monster. I pinched the tubes after a few days/week of riding on low preasure. The bigger tires are difficult to tell if pressure is low just by squeezing them. The tires are pretty stiff on there own.

+2-degrees.
Thanks a lot ! Great Wheel !
Can you do a video where you put slime in the tires? Or cut open a tire that has slime in it?
Search my channel for Slime and you'll find a few videos of the process
If you’re riding with beeps and tilt back off how do you know when to stop pushing it?
It is not possible to turn off the low-power alarm. So when you hear the beeper sounding, slow down. It represents 70% maximum power being used, and the value decreases as the remaining battery level lowers.
@@ElectricUnicycles good to know. Thank you.
@@ElectricUnicycles I wish it would just tilt back at max speed. I feel like it’s hard the heat the beep at 40+ wearing a full face helmet.
Thank you for the tips.
Hello~ Thank you for the detailed explanation^^
I have a question, but I'm not sure what kind of calibration the level-calibration means.. Can you tell me in detail?
And when charging, the temperature goes up, so please let me know how high it blocks the charge.
Marty, since you've disabled the tilt-back and speed alarm, will you still be able to hear the beeps when the wheels reaches 80% power, like the Gotway? Thanks.
Yes. Like Gotway, you can't turn off the 3rd alarm
@@ElectricUnicycles Thanks for sharing. Is the beep loud enough? Is it necessary to drill holes on the top panel where the buzzer is located?
@@TangDynasty1983 Most people seem to think the beeper is loud enough. It's personal of course.
Very useful. Thanks.
Thank you Marty 🤙🏽
The tiltback and alarm settings seem to skip the speeds most riders would actually want. It jumps from 36.1mph to OFF (173.9mph). On a "50mph" wheel, I'd want to set tiltback to be something in like 45mph and an alarm in the around 40mph.
Am I missing something?
You are correct. It would be nice to have more speeds, but maybe tilt-back that kicks in at higher speeds is more dangerous?
ElectricUnicycles I would say a setting that is too low, so that people turn alarms and tilt back off completely, is more dangerous.
@@caryEUCNutbar The Sherman motor output alarm triggers at 70%. Gotway's trigger at 80%
What is Close tilt back, what does it do?
It turns off the tilt-back function
You may have been joking, but I think I'm about to read that manual to help me sleep.
Question, how to clear the trip miles? and does the Sherman show total miles? Thanks
Hi Mark. Click the upper right button to cycle through the display. When you're viewing the trip miles, click and hold the button until it beeps and clears the counter.
Tiltback off but tilts you back when voltage drops?
Yes. It's not possible to turn off low voltage tilt-back or high-voltage (too much regen) tilt-back
@@ElectricUnicycles i believe its possible but not done in some wheels.
Lol
Question, Is there a way to turn down or off the beeping everytime it falls down?
Unfortunately, no :-) This will motivate you to learn quicker ;-) Good luck with your new adventure - everyone gets it, so just have patience.
@@ElectricUnicycles Nvm to my surprise I got this riding thing down way faster than I had thought. It just clicked! Needed about 100 ft and once you get up to about 10-14 mph I was able to relax. It was the short runs between the garage doors that was the problem! The way it dips into the turns is the next quest to conquer. 8 miles in and I'm fired up!
Understanding the physics of how a bicycle works is a must when you start riding.

Nice! Is the headlight red when it flashes now? Or still blue? I’m patiently waiting till Tuesday for my Sherman to arrive...
Mine is now red. Looks like they are all red.
Mine are blue, will that change when I get my firmware updated??
@@davidevans5782 No. The color is hardware based (the color of the LED).
Great Video, what is the difference between mode? Soft, medium and Strong
Try a Google search. It'll be quicker for me than doing a bunch of typing :-) Thanks.
Thanks my friend.
Sorry Marty, just a quick one. It seems I saw 36 miles an hour as the max for the alarm before deactivation at 173... is there a way to adjust an alarm closer to the max speed of the Sherman?
No
HEY BROTHER, ITS ME AGAIN. MY SHERMAN WILL ARRIVE IN LATE MAY, OR JUNE. SOME TYPE OF DELAY FROM CHINA TO L.A. :-( CAN THESE BE LOCKED AT THAT CONTROL PANEL? THANKS
Yes. Read the Description for the how-to
Did your Shermans fans spin all the time when you charged it with two adapters? I mean thats inside the wheel
I'm sorry but I don't recall.
Hey Marty use the back of the tire gauge to release air , just if you didn’t know, great video.
What’s your favorite wheel so far?
Yes, I know about the dual use of the tire gauge. Thanks :-) In this case the geometry of the valve stem and how it lays against the motor makes it a bit less convenient to get the little protrusion into the valve. I still love my Nikola for general purpose riding, the MSP for trails, and the Veteran for cruising.
ElectricUnicycles I’m leaning to Sherman as my next wheel
Thanks Marty!
do you think that the original veteran accent, which is on top of the motherboard, can harm the motherboard itself or some internal part of the unicycle? Congratulations for the beautiful work, I follow all the videos here in Brazil!
I'm sorry, but I don't understand the question :-(
@@ElectricUnicycles sorry my bad english .... the veteran's accent ... is on top of the motherboard ... can this generate any electronic problems?
@@fabiopms Hi. The word "accent" doesn't make sense here. But anyway, I'm not aware of any electrical problems with the Sherman.
@@ElectricUnicycles last try: have you seen the sherman accent?
@@fabiopms I'm so sorry - I don't know what "sherman accent" means :-(
I'm 223 lbs what psi you recommend?
That's a tough call because it depends on how you ride and your desired comfort level. Certainly nothing lower than 30 (to prevent possible rim damage). Some people go up to 45. I would experiment which is easy enough to do. Good luck
@@ElectricUnicycles I want comfort while preventing rim damage, I ride my msp at 36 psi but recently damaged the rim.
Ah... nice to revisit this great vid now that I received my very own spankin’ new Sherman! Thanks Marty. Also, did you end up putting tyre sealant in your tyres? The thought of changing tyres gives me hives but I may have been a little too enthusiastic with the amount I squeezed in... I figured there’s no harm in having a bit more in the tyre than not enough. What do you reckon? Thoughts? :)
Congrat's on your Sherman! Yes, after a local rider got a flat (from a long thorn) I realized that the Sherman tire is not invincible. I put ~6+ ounces of Slime in the tire. The guy that got the flat fixed it by adding Slime.
@@ElectricUnicycles Thanks Marty! It's my second wheel and I think I'm pretty happy with my two wheel stable. Yeah I think I put about the same amount of sealant as well... probably closer to 7 than 6 ounces... I just kept squeezin'! haha Been using blue Armor Dilloz and it's been great so far. I used to use Slime on my scooters. Keep up the great work Marty, look forward to your next vid! :)
@@Kamikazekman Let's hope neither of us get a flat :-)
voltride.com still has sherman in EU stock
Are you going to engineer a bike seat mod for the Sherman? ;)
I was kind of planning on it, but Brian is sending me one of his Sherman seats. I think you know who I mean :-)
Are you telling me after 5 years I just now learned your last name is pronounced Back-ee?
I guess so LOL To be fair, this may be the first video that I've ever said my name :-)
@@ElectricUnicycles Yea I have heard others pronounce your name like me as well. Mind officially blown, more shocking than calling Mathias, Matias
I'm curious as to how much trouble it is to change a tire.
Hi Marty, I'm from the Netherlands so excuse me for my local ignorance but I always wonder how you are doing in relation to the wildfires in your area. Every time i see a pensionada in the news I'm like: OMG is that Marty...oh pfiiieuw doesn't look like him. Can you help me out so I don't get a heart attack every time? Are you relatively save where you live?
I don't have a Sherman, I don't know if I will ever own own because of country restrictions but nevertheless I enjoyed your video Marty.
Well just knock on every door in (s)melbin and tell everyone to stop breaking covid restrictions!
is your sherman still not slimed Marty ? thanks for the video
After seeing a local rider get a flat by a very long thorn, I did Slime the Sherman tire :-)
And BTW, the rider who got the flat from the thorn fixed it by putting Slime in the tire.
Lol , thanks Marty , I’ll be picking up my Sherman tomorrow, went ahead with the order despite the unfortunate fire the had , will be sliming first thing . Stay safe thanks again
thanks Marty ...... tom brasil
So sweet it's giving me cavities. Can't wait for her to arrive. Well done and thanks as always Marty.
toptoptop thks ;-)
MSP >>> sherman. Veteran is an unproved company
