I am in Pennsylvania and I had to see an ALJ. They don't make it easy. If we still had Commissioner Saul he would have made it a lot harder. I believe he actually did but Biden undid some of the damage from Saul. Our reviews would have been every 2 years or sooner and they would want us to basically be unable to stand or walk. While that would indicate a disability they are often mental too but they don't typically manifest themselves as a physical disability unless it is in a part of the brain responsible for the movement of our body. In my case my learning disabilities just make things school related much more difficult and outside of a school environment they can make some mental tasks more difficult. My handwriting is terrible, I don't do complex math AT ALL, I am slow to complete any assignments if I complete them at all. These things do not prevent me from operating a motor vehicle or being my own payee for benefits.
I'm still working, but its getting harder and harder. Am I supposed to be unemployed in order to apply for SSDI? If its mandatory to be unemployed, how am I supposed to survive during the application and approval process?
Hi James, if you interested in applying for SSDI benefits, please reach out to our office at (781) 816-9995 and speak with one of our representatives. You can also reach out to SSA with any questions and they will be able to assist you.
Hi! Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) is for people who have been or will be disabled for 12 months or more. There may be other programs for short-term disability, but we only handle SSDI claims.
I live in Arlington Va on 9/29/21 and I called SSA about 2 weeks later and they told me my application is in “ pending “ status and to call back on Jan/26-2022 if I don’t hear anything from them. Is that a good thing or a normal thing for an initial application in Virginia ?
Hi Davon, once an application has been processed, it is sent to Disability Determination Services (DDS) where they will make a medical decision on your claim. On average it takes 5-7 months for a decision to be made but sometimes it could take longer depending if additional evidence is needed.
So at 80 percent denial at the initial level, you telling me with Hiv, Diabetic neuropathy, Covid long haul, and age 64 I'm not going to be approved at this level? Well dayum.
