Another excellent video, thanks Mark. I’ll definitely be steering my glass students to HisGlass as a fantastic glass resource. The videos are full of wise tips and tricks, hard to find such advise outside the studio. Hopefully this will lead to more informed and interesting coldworking in the future. Looking forward to the next one. 👍 Many thanks Dan
Great video. Two questions: - how much downward pressure are you exerting? - you hold the piece stationary for a couple of seconds before removing it. Why?
Enough downward pressure to apply force to the disk, but not so much that you are straining to push the piece down. The disk should do most of the work for you, but you'll want enough contact to maintain control of the piece and apply a small amount of pressure. I hold it in one spot for a few seconds to get all the scratchs on the surface going in a uniform direction so I can check the next step for removal of all the deeper scratches from the surface.
Hi Mark ! thank you for this great video ! Let me ask you a question: Is it okay to clean the disc with a toothbrush, while the disc is working, to clean it ?
@@rubermejo I would recommend, at minimum, the 12-inch Covington: www.hisglassworks.com/machinery/flat-grinders/small-grinders/covington-variable-speed-12-inch-flat-lap-grinder.html Those bottles are a little thicker so the larger grinder is a better choice.

Yes, any soft bristled brush will work to clean excess ground glass off the wheel.

It depends on the type of glass work you need to do
