- In this Coldworking 101 video, we'll discuss how to use loose-grit silicon carbide abrasive to hand-lap your glass surfaces quickly and inexpensively. Loose grit is an excellent way to coldwork your glass surfaces by hand with minimal effort, expense, or space.
Nice beginner tutorial. Love to see educational material on coldworking
Glad it's helpful.
that's super awesome info, can you please make a tutorial/timelapse on hand polishing without machinery? How would you prepolish and polish this piece with your hands?
I would typically move to two different pumice steps after this with a scotch brite pad to hand finish the glass. There are cerium impregnated hand pads that can be used to polish by hand as well. We may make a video showing the full routine.
I was wondering, where do you buy the glass itself?
A lot depends on the type of glass you're looking for. From borosilicate crystal to lead crystal to float glass. Different location for different types of glass.
@@hisglassworksinc I’m probably looking for borosilicate crystal.

Can you make video of how to make glass mousepads
These are typically etched tempered glass. The glass would have to be purchased and tempered in the correct size and then etched.
@hisglassworksinc can you make a short tutorial as in my country (egypt) we don't have glass mousepads and in the other hand if you want one you have to import one which will be super expensive
@hisglassworksinc as in bought the tempered glass and cut it and round the corner but idk how much etching I need
@@xXcasperXx That I'm not sure about. I would go for a single dip in the Vari-Etch material: ruclips.net/video/aWiUpKR6Lx0/видео.html
I am surprised you don't wear gloves given how small, sharp, and hard those particles can be. Those are easily penetrating your skin.
You certainly can wear gloves, but it's not a requirement.
