    This is a godsend. We got married right before our last PCS, which was still stateside so it was a breeze with packing. Everything was coming with us. We have 2 months until we leave for Korea and I was getting anxiety trying to figure out how to separate checked items, HHG, and everything that would be going into long term storage so the movers didn't grab the wrong items. This is so helpful! I don't know why I didn't think to just have items in different rooms depending on where they're going.

      Happy to hear this was helpful for you! It takes some effort and time to go through everything and rearrange, but totally worth it in the end to have everything organized for yourself and the movers. Wishing you a smooth move to Korea!

    I really enjoyed your video - my fiance and I have received his orders to PCS to South Korea this summer... For me this is only my second move and my first time going over seas .. this was very informative and helpful. It's nice to see how other families prepare for something like this.
    Hope you have enjoyed South Korea so far :)

    So how do figure out all these little things like they don't let you put holes in the walls? I need to know everything! Are there furnished homes to avoid having to wait on your HHGs? I'd rather do that. Is there some kind of class the army gives to prepare for this big move? 😅

    • @AshleyRoberts80
      @AshleyRoberts80  4 года назад

      Unfortunately, there isn't a class the army gives to prepare us. I get a lot of info from private spouse and Korean housing groups on Facebook. We all seem to have the same questions and it is a good resource for sharing info like that. The majority of Korean homes have wallpaper. We personally just haven't put anything on the walls, but I hear that other people use these things called 'picture rails', where you screw a rail into the ceiling and then the picture hangs from wires that are attached to the rail. Or you can use these things called 'wall combs' for lighter things. Most of the homes off post come furnished and if they don't, you can usually negotiate the place to be furnished. Our home came furnished and we used the items until our HHG came. We brought most of our things, so we had them remove the furnished items the day before our HHG arrived. The Korean couches and beds are very hard, so I would recommend bringing your own couch and beds. Other than that, most of the homes come with wardrobes since they don't really use closets here. So I think it would be safe to leave your bedroom dressers and kitchen table and chairs behind or in storage if you didn't want to bring them. The army also lets you borrow furniture if you need it while you wait for your HHG to arrive.

    since we cant bring all HHG and stuff must be kept in storage, does the military pay for the storage unit?? I'm about to move over there to osan and it's stressing me out lol

    • @AshleyRoberts80
      @AshleyRoberts80  2 года назад

      Hey Savannah. I'm not sure what the airforce does, but the army paid for our storage unit. If there is a weight limit on how much you can ship, I imagine they would pay for your storage, but definitely talk to the transportation office as they would have that information for you.

    Did you have to apply for command sponsorship or did the orders come already accompanied

    • @AshleyRoberts80
      @AshleyRoberts80  2 года назад +1

      He received his orders as unaccompanied first, then we applied for command sponsorship. Once sponsorship was approved, they amended the orders as accompanied. We waited 30+ days for approval.

    what does 5 100 lbs bag mean? Were you able to take 500 lbs bags on airplane? Was it for your whole family or for individuals? I am pcsing in 8 months to korea.

    • @AshleyRoberts80
      @AshleyRoberts80  3 года назад

      We were able to fly commercially with Delta because the Patriot Express was booked up. Delta allows Military on orders 5 checked bags - 100lb max per bag free of charge. Each family member listed on orders is allowed 2 checked bags - 100lb max per bag also, free of charge. Each airline has different baggage requirements for Military, so it is best to check with the airline you end up going with.

      @@AshleyRoberts80 Thank you. Just one more question. How much weigh of your households were you able to send? It seems like you have quite alot of stuffs. They said I am only able to send up to 4000lbs.

    • @AshleyRoberts80
      @AshleyRoberts80  3 года назад

      HHG weight is based on rank and if you have dependents or not. I think we were allowed around 7,000 lbs. We probably could have shipped most of our stuff and not gone over the weight allowance, but we put about 4500 lbs in storage. We probably shipped only about 3500 lbs. The major things we shipped was a couch, one bedroom set, kitchen table, a desk, a few light media/bookcases, kitchen stuff, Xmas decorations, and two bikes. The things we put in storage was our huge sectional couch, a desk, a bedroom set, all outdoor equipment, washer/dryer, all wall hangings, and some other miscellaneous things. I hope this helps!
