    Zone 9B Texas, my garden is about done. The only thing still going is field peas and peppers.

    The phrase is more about field- dry-flint-dent corn, which needs several more weeks than sweet corn. The saying also likely originated in New England, with shorter growing seasons. And sadly yes, it's become a silly, one- size- fits-all myth.
