Dude that looks freaking sick we need some new Clone Wars sets considering that was what was most popular in the Lego Star Wars series. Maybe a Lego Separatist Frigate to battle The Venator?
Easily one of the most legendary Star Wars sets of all time! Would love to see a remake. Got this for $5 from a friend irl getting out of LEGO, I’ve yet to build it
I remember when this set came out (and hearing about the same problems); can’t believe it’s been 11 years! I would totally be down with a rerelease of just the AT-OT Walker, perhaps with Phase 2 minifigs.
@@benflewers2545 it's about time we'd get some 327th troopers. IMO they should have had a Felucia theme with the rereleased AT-AP and Droid Gunship instead of just Kashyyyk again...
Sorry Jang, as someone who owns 3 of this set and has had them since 2009, it still holds up and functions like it did 11 years ago. While I completely see your point of view about the complaints of construction and design of the dropship, having the ability to pickup the AT-TE, AT-OT, and Turbo Tank of that era was unbelievably fun. Anyone also who is a fan of the Clone Wars show would've also noticed the dropship made a big appearance in the recent final season during the Siege of Mandalore Arc. Seeing those tanks flying throw the sky trying to make it to the ground battle is just plain exciting to my generation who grew up watching the show. It's nostalgic sure, but the fun is off the charts.
Nostalgia is a pathway to many analyses some consider to be... illogical. Mostly kidding. CW was never big in my life and of course it doesn't align with my emotionally formative years. I've seen each episode an average of 1.01 times so with this one I can't share in the (completely valid) love we develop for things that have a strong positive psychological effect on us. I can only look at it as a LEGO set, give it a little extra credit & reasonable mercy for its age, and share my honest thoughts about what I see & feel before me today. Now when are we ever going to get a Nebulon-B set or a flippin' Alpha-class Assault Gunboat?! 😄
For such an ability to hold heavy lego models without collapsing on itself, I'm surprised at how skeletal the frame really is. I'm sure with the newer design techniques, LEGO could easily remake this to be significantly more durable, but also able to hold the 2008 AT-TE new Attack of the Clones style AT-TE as well as both of the recent Turbo Tanks (if the newest smaller one can match the scaling issue). Very cool design though!!
I highly doubt we’ll ever get a remake for the set. The people running lego have discouraged the company from ever making a large wave of sets based on this era, and large $200 sets usually accompany a pretty sizable array of sets with it.
I'm seriously impressed by how cool it looks when you're holding it by the handle and the vehicle below is just dangling around. It's so simple but it looks so animated and alive.
Of course, it appears on Felucia in Revenge Of The Sith, so it makes perfect sense. Personally I want an AT-OT set but I can’t get one because of the price. They should make a solo AT-OT set with Phase 2 327th Troopers and a Clone Gunner.
This may get buried but I want to address a few points as I also got this set in used condition. I think Jang is a bit too harsh on this set despite the ridiculous price on retail and todays after market. The Mechanism: This is what everyone is paying for at the end of the day and ties into the Dropship which is the bigger build (I will address this below). For one, It isnt as flimsy or hard to operate and maintain as demonstrated, the only real issue I can say I share with the review is the mechanism needs to be aligned which does take a bit of care but there are guides to help. This mechanism also work on *ALL OTHER PREQUEL VEHICLES WITH THE SAME HANDLE*, meaning you can also pick up all the AT-TE's (including captain Rex's Rebels AT-TE) and Turbo tanks. This is a huge draw as it not only is compatible with modern sets but also maintains the centre of gravity very well. I would also like to add that I have had both vehicles on display attached to one another and found no issues with stability, strain or anything of the such. The Dropship: While I do agree the top panel is oddly attached when bent down, the rest of this ship is quite well done. It isnt as unwieldy as it looks or as described and can be swooshed around with ease. The small parts falling off are an issue but this has been an issue with 2009 building standard in general. The overall build is very Technic heavy and offers lots of stability, the play features are surprisingly fun for a giant battle droid head of a ship. The ATOT: This one was the weaker of two builds and actually felt more incomplete to me but its still a great build overall. This one does feel like it comes off as a filler vehicle as it is quite bare bones and a bit flimsy. The ramp is a big downside and when the head folds back you effectively loose a third of that troop space to hold troops. Overall, it is a very good set that is relevant to todays sets, the price is never going to be an easy pill to swallow and I cant imagine BL'ing the pieces for each vehicle to be any cheaper than just buying a used copy of the set but I do strongly recommend atleast the dropship as it is quite well done. This is easily one of my favourite sets for its sheer size, playability and displayability. I had this on display with the FO star destroyer and this set dwarfs that set which says alot.
That head! Oh god. My eyes. I locked all my clone wars heads in my closet. I may have just a black head for my Asoka, but it was worth it. The days of waking up with those heads by my face are over. I’m free. I’m free of the pain.
with the current disney-starwars lego set, i think they will make the scale smaller bit unrealistic, like what happens with the slave I 2019 remake, or the republic tank 2019
Thats why the Republic stopped using them and switched to Juggernaut Tanks as a means of transport. Only reliable use of these were in heavily forrested terrain like Felicia where Juggernauts couldn't maneuver
This is my favorite set I was never able to get. I would spend hours staring at this in a Lego magazine imagining myself playing with it. I love the Clone Wars, AT walkers, LAATs, and getting lots of Reg clones. Even after watching this I would still get it lol.
How is 2009 11 years ago? Crazy haha. Loved the review Jang, thank you :) Reckon you could do a review of the Adventurers (Egypt) theme from the late 90's? Brickvault sells instructions for a MOC version of the LAAT-C that goes with their MOC version of the AT-TE, so you could see that as an update. You'd have to get your own pieces though, and I think it would be close to €600 to get both the walker and dropship... I built the AT-TE and I think I spent over €250 on it... still kinda worth it, it is awesome 😬
What defines an “Illegal Technique?” I used them as a kid and still build legos and have always wondered why some build techniques are considered illegal. Thanks for the vid Jang! Love your content my man!
Honestly you’re 100% right Jang, but it’s just so cool as a thing it’s hard view as a bad set.
