  • Hi everyone! In this video I am making an adjustable router jig for square, rectangle holes and recesses.

    I already created a router guide for dados and grooves ( • Make Adjustable Router... ), but I found out that an adjustable router template for squares, rectangles and recesses would come in handy for multiple projects. This is what I am building today. The guide can be adjusted to square, rectangle and non square shapes up to 35 x 35cm. I was making this project on budget using material that is easily available and does not cost much (see list below). Apart from the router guide I also built a circle router base / subbase needed for the guide ( • Router Circle Cutting ... ) to get accurate router cuts. Watch the entire video for a step by step guide how to build this template router jig and make great squares.

    Very nice. The whole project stands and falls with an EXACT centered router base. I would say everything > 0.1mm is not acceptable.

    Hi. I may be wrong but I believe that you left out important information regarding your jig design: 1) The distance from the t-slot to the template edge of the MDF is determined by the distance of the router's sub base to the cutting edge of the installed bit. Your video could have shown the making of the template by routing the 4 template sides to width with the newly created sub base and selected bit. 2) Only the original or equal diameter sized bit can be used. Using a different diameter, e.g. 1/4 vs, 1/2, will not yield the same results. A bit that is bigger in diameter than the one used to create the template will cut into and ruin the template.

      @AllFlavorWorkshop  3 года назад +1

      Hello Kam Leo, good eye! ;) That is correct. The jig can be used only with the original router bit which was used for the creation of the jig (length from the T-slot to the edge of the MDF desk). Using other sized bits would not work with the jig or ruin it. Good point, I like it! Thanks for the comment 👍

      Thank you for this comment! I was trying to figure out 1) how this worked without using a bushing and 2) why they made the router base. I couldn't figure out what I was missing and now see those two are related.

      @@psxndc I still fail to see why you need the step of making your own base plate. My Makita RT0700C has a black baseplate that would work fine? Why would the extra height added by the custom baseplate matter? The width seems the same.

    This only works when you're trying to cut all the way through whatever you're routing. This won't work for something you need a precise depth
