Same boat here, kinda. Test drove the ML63 on dec 17, 2019. Stiff suspension, harsh shifting, extremely dirty and unloved interior and exterior, really showing its age. Told the dealer thx, but no thx. But couldnt let it go. Liked the looks and especially the power… thought about it for days and called dealer again. Made an offer he couldnt refuse ;-) and got the car on dec 20. Swapped in my BMW 745 and right away I thought What have I done?! Figured I would enjoy the engine and hate everything else, so gave it 3-6 months tops. Well I hooked up some hardware and cleared codes. I could literally hear the car sigh and relax. Clearing suspension codes made it go back to standard, instead of the extremely harsh setting it apparently had defaulted to. Shifting got fixed too by clearing codes and is now very smooth. Only complaint is slow shifting, but I believe that is inherent to this transmission. Got rid of Check Engine (bad O2 wire). Cleaned the interior thoroughly. Even had to replace a worn through carpet, not mat. Took care of paint, finishing with ceramic coating. Transformed from tired old car and now strangers asks if it is brand new. I too had the cgw battery drain, but wasnt brave enough to go for a new android headunit. Bought a working replacement for $600 and I am happy with that. I never listen to anything but my engine anyway… Like I said, I expected to keep it for 3-6 months, but two years later on, I have no plans of selling it. Interior may be outdated, but I keep it very clean and fresh looking, so it is always a pleasure to not only walk towards the car, but also to get in and especially to drive it.
You gotta pickup a sprint booster. Ive been putting them in my cars the last 11 years since I had my e60. Makes a massive difference to me in responsiveness of the car.
As you stated a few times, it is 14 years old - but it’s a naturally aspirated 6.2 litre beast of an engine that sounds glorious and way better than the modern twin turbo engines. Good vid! I just took care of replacing my valve cover gaskets today that were leaking. I did notice some scoring on part of the middle of the CAM which I'm not really sure what caused that, its in a weird spot. You definitely need to look at the AVIN upgrade. I had issues with my stock headunit draining my battery so I was forced to upgrade, but its a massive difference with wireless CarPlay . Love the interior too and it made it look complete and like a new car with the huge screen. Agreed with all your points. I've had to fix so many things on the car overall since I've owned it since July last year but I love it overall and its my favorite car I've owned. Especially with the current price of cars I got it at a bargain and I'll just fix whatever breaks. I'm at 82k miles on mine.
Thank you! Awesome comment. I’ll definitely check out the head unit, I’ve looked at some before but never pulled the trigger. And weird that the camshaft would have a mark on it. It shift hard like that because it's cold. You don't wake up in the morning an do full on sprint running so don't wake your car up an try an floor it!! Is the Engine really reliable as they say?
They say this m156 classic here can take a lot of damage before collapsing and if you take care of it you will only have Good times instead of headaches.
Thanks in advance again!!!
Thanks for the great comment! For what it’s worth I think the porche might handle better (I’ve never driven one) but the ML63 is more interesting and better sounding to me. I wish you the best in your search!!
@@monumentauto Thanks buddy!!!
Yeah ,the 957 is more sporty
But let's be honest
Nothing calms the soul like the 6,2l here in the ML 63 (at least for me)
I even looked at 957 turbo with a Magnum kit, very sick looking!
But man honestly im a Merc-head and i want finally to get my first real AMG car and i have chosen this one!
Thank you for the kind words buddy!
how about w166 version '15? is it worth buying?
Not sure! Good looking fast car but I don’t know about its issues or benefits sorry
give some sound and acceleration videos bro
Will do! New vid coming out soon will be cool packs/misfire diagnosis but once that’s fixed I can send it again
No disrespect but the dislikes are kind of sooky dislikes, nothing major.
And wtf, the gearbox smooth and snappy, I don't know what you are on about, maybe it just needs a service.
Gas mileage isn't too bad either, my one get's me far though I do have a stage 2 tune on it with claims to have better mileage but still.
Yeah the maintenance, it can be expensive but once it's done, it's done. Like look, soon I'm looking at putting a supercharger on mine.
Yeah absolutely, who said I was crying over it - just things that I wish were a little better. Love the car overall like I said in the vid. Glad you’re liking yours!
@@monumentauto Ohh hahahaha, Nah bro don't take my comment in a bad way 😂 That wasn't directed at you, I'm meaning in general, they are sooky dislikes, meaning faults with the car that aren't bad at all..
Oh yeah I gotcha, I agree. Not all that bad
you know that you can reset the transmission for 5 min!?😀
Yep! I have already done that
I dont like the gas mileage but i love to step on the gas hee hee
Imagine what he pays now for fuel in 2022.. lol
Haha gas prices are brutal right now…
Sell me your Benz for $5000 💀
Haha no thanks, think I’ll keep enjoying it for now unless you have a much higher offer 😮
