    Same boat here, kinda. Test drove the ML63 on dec 17, 2019. Stiff suspension, harsh shifting, extremely dirty and unloved interior and exterior, really showing its age. Told the dealer thx, but no thx.
    But couldnt let it go. Liked the looks and especially the power… thought about it for days and called dealer again. Made an offer he couldnt refuse ;-) and got the car on dec 20. Swapped in my BMW 745 and right away I thought What have I done?!
    Figured I would enjoy the engine and hate everything else, so gave it 3-6 months tops.
    Well I hooked up some hardware and cleared codes. I could literally hear the car sigh and relax. Clearing suspension codes made it go back to standard, instead of the extremely harsh setting it apparently had defaulted to. Shifting got fixed too by clearing codes and is now very smooth. Only complaint is slow shifting, but I believe that is inherent to this transmission.
    Got rid of Check Engine (bad O2 wire). Cleaned the interior thoroughly. Even had to replace a worn through carpet, not mat. Took care of paint, finishing with ceramic coating. Transformed from tired old car and now strangers asks if it is brand new.
    I too had the cgw battery drain, but wasnt brave enough to go for a new android headunit. Bought a working replacement for $600 and I am happy with that. I never listen to anything but my engine anyway…
    Like I said, I expected to keep it for 3-6 months, but two years later on, I have no plans of selling it. Interior may be outdated, but I keep it very clean and fresh looking, so it is always a pleasure to not only walk towards the car, but also to get in and especially to drive it.

    As you stated a few times, it is 14 years old - but it’s a naturally aspirated 6.2 litre beast of an engine that sounds glorious and way better than the modern twin turbo engines. It is what it is and will never be any more than that unless you make it so - enjoy it, I would. Thanks for sharing from Australia

    Good vid! I just took care of replacing my valve cover gaskets today that were leaking. I did notice some scoring on part of the middle of the CAM which I'm not really sure what caused that, its in a weird spot. You definitely need to look at the AVIN upgrade. I had issues with my stock headunit draining my battery so I was forced to upgrade, but its a massive difference with wireless CarPlay . Love the interior too and it made it look complete and like a new car with the huge screen. Agreed with all your points. I don't recommend the car to anyone who either doesn't work on your own cars or doesn't have a warranty. I've had to fix so many things on the car overall since I've owned it since July last year but I love it overall and its my favorite car I've owned. Especially with the current price of cars I got it at a bargain and I'll just fix whatever breaks. I'm at 82k miles on mine.

    • @monumentauto
      @monumentauto  3 года назад +1

      Thank you! Awesome comment. I’ll definitely check out the head unit, I’ve looked at some before but never pulled the trigger. And weird that the camshaft would have a mark on it. And yeah I agree, would be way too expensive for you can’t fix some things yourself. Seems like yours has lots of life left in it at only 82k. I just hit 143,000.

Just order all of the correct adapters they offer.

    It shift hard like that because it's cold. You don't wake up in the morning an do full on sprint running so don't wake your car up an try an floor it!! The fluid has to get up to operating temperature before you can floort it. The fluid is cold when you first start it up an don't have the same lubrication as it does when it's hot. So there's nothing wrong with your transmission just take it easy when you cold start it

    Dude thanks so much for these videos...very informative and useful to someone like me who has found one of these and has been bitten by the bug and I'm probably about to take the plunge and buy it. It's an '09 in the rare super dark green called Verde Brook Metallic on tan leather. It's absolutely gorgeous. 115K 4 owners all SoCal AZ and south TX so has never seen winter, salt, etc. Current owner claims to have preemptively done the headbolts, and has replaced shocks with Arnotts at 80K. It drives great and again, looks absolutely cool and amazing. The only issue cosmetically is some haze/crackle in the paint on the hood and roof that you really only see up close and in direct sun...it may compound out and and with full color correction be OK but my fear is it's the clearcoat going. Doesn't look bad now but that can go really bad really fast. And I don't even want to THINK about the cost of repainting the sucker. The sides and everywhere else look absolutely perfect. The guy has no records, he's owned it since '15 and 45K. Before him it was all meticulously dealer maintained per Carfax. He claims to do all his own wrenching, yet the Carfax lists an oil change, trans filter change, etc at local shops so I'm thinking, if you do headbolts, did the shocks, radiator, power steering pump, etc (as he claims) why are you taking it to the shop for this stupid stuff? Hopefully the PPI I'm going to have done will sort it all out. Because when you are sitting in that beautiful leather cabin with all that versatility and then give it the beans from about 20 mph and get a literal supercar headsnap...man, how can you not? Even if you know it might be the road to hell lol. Your experience and others I've found on YT give me a bit more confidence. Like any car but CRITICALLY with these, prior maintenance is so key. And so is a bit of luck! Cheers.

    • @monumentauto
      @monumentauto  2 года назад

      What a great comment! Thanks for sharing. Glad the vids have helped. I will say sometimes I take my car for oil changes bc I hate dealing w fluids and disposing of them and the oil change is still $85+ if you do it yourself, so getting it done at a shop it’s like $100 so you’re paying an extra $20 to save yourself some time and hassle. Hopefully the PPI confirms everything he’s done. Best of luck!

    Many 2nd gears when I was building up my high hp supra they went way overboard with the pressure and it literally kicked me sideways when it went into 2nd gear and wasn’t fun….. they were very hesitant to lower the pressure but I never had a problem from then on was solid but smooth enough to control the forward surge and it’s literally just to turn a knob near the transmission sump but go talk to one if they sound like they don’t know squat onto the next shop but get it fixed cause the gear sprags will end up

Best thing to buy is a hand held laser temp gauge so you get validation that your mods worked. good luck and I hope they listen to you and don’t end up arrogant.
