I just downloaded it yesterday. I've barely even begun to explore the presets let alone starting to play with the settings. It is clearly a much deeper synth than it would first appear to be. It's sound is so unique and fascinating. I could build entire tracks using just this synth. This may be one of the most innovative synth to have been released in quite a while. Good going on this one, Props... er... Reason Studios. This one looks like a true original.
The synth strikes me as a very good tool for layering with other synths to add additional resonances. Jef, you’re sounding good these days! Thanks for the video
I know this has literally nothing to do with how its sounds, but I find it very interesting that this device is not a Rack unit. Objekt is the first device by Reason Studios to not be made to look like a Rack device, it's got a shape, no graphics to show it connected with screws or clips to the Rack. I think it's a significant change to now no longer try to make devices look physical like Rack gear.
yea they switched to the VST layout ever since they started supporting it, atleast thats how i noticed it (never payed attention to the screws and stuff ;-)
After watching your video, i had no other option but to hit the sub 🙃 Not only is Objekt the new physical modeling beast, the way you produced that sweet track was very inspiring and completing the package 📦👍🏼 🙏
Please could you tell me the make and model of your midi keyboard there Jeff please ? It looks like Arturia BUT doesn't have those awful brown sides that they have and that's the reason I haven't bought Arturia, thanks
Sounds awesome. Will buy. Now...what is that Giant monitor??? I am running short of eyesight with too much screen time and sonething like that could be a godsend 🙏
Hello. I follow your tutorials, and in fact I download them to collect them (the ones from Maschine). Well, my question with this Daw is if I can import the midi file of a drum pattern from a group into the same Daw. In other words, go from a group pattern, to a single midi file to place it on another channel, directly on the piano roll to use it with any drumbox. logically, this has to be done within Maschine.
It’s pretty alright isn’t it. Hey @Jef, can I assume you’ve made a decent controller map for using Maschine inside reason or do you predominantly work the other way around? I actually bought the retouch control map but alas, I was pretty disappointed, it’s not up to their usually quality of work in my view.
@@jefgibbons ok no worries. I don’t either (or Maschine) but I still like to use the controller for general functions etc. especially when on my laptop and thought you might have made something sweet. Thanks Jef
Gotta work now, great video so far. I do think the Props are making a mistake by not allowing the rack to host VSTs when running as a VST. I’d love to be able to use this along with their routing, but occasionally pull in something external.
@@jefgibbons exactly. There's no technical barrier. I asked about it ages ago and they said it wasn't on the roadmap. I always liked their stuff, but (for me) their development pace doesn't really justify the hefty subscription price. I'd probably feel differently if it was a complete sonic playground
This is the exact reason why I left the Reason DAW and only use Cubase. If I could start an idea in Reason and then just move my instrument/FX Combinator over it would be easy. I transferred some old projects to Cubase that had VSTs inside the Combinator and it was horrible. My interest to buy REs is pretty low now as I don't use their DAW, only the rack. Their loss...
@@lucid484 it is about moving from Reason to another DAW without having to rebuild the FX chain. Also save it as a Combinator. Not all DAWs have a rack.
I wish they would allow you to put a wav into this synth and it could scan it and replicate it in the synth. Being able to drag and drop a sound into it then tweaking it from there would be awesome.
Hi Jef, I would love to see your take on using external effects (on your SP404 mk2 for example) with Maschine. Routing a group's output (say, drums) to the external effects unit and have it return to Maschine? I'd be curious to see how you would approach this!
@Jef - Would be interested to hear your thoughts on the classic NI modal synth Reaktor Prism in contrast to Objekt. Many of us following your channel are long time NI users with Prism collecting dust on our hard drives. Was reminded of its existence when Objekt was launched. Will go back and explore myself…
Agreed. Also, TO ME, no DAW is more fun to work within. The real SSL emulated mixer with built in eq/compressor and gate and easily reachable send effects plus the rack layout, that will spare you the tedious process of opening plugin windows means a great deal to me. Also the sound quality of Reason is amazing, it's a LOT more cpu saving than for example Cubase, which is my second daw.
I buy it and only scratch the surface of it, i think i prefer Parsec and Friktion, much easyier to control especialy with aftertouch and volume pedal the expressivity is the key here, Objekt is like a complex version of Parsec with endless percussive possibility i need to found a way to control the envellope and the tone generator, it's interesting way of generated unique tone, but the expressivity control need to be mastered like Thor or Europa they must show how to started from zero, for using more than the included pseudo acoustic patch, randomise feature help a lot to modified patch, but i want to started my own synth pad or pseudo acoustic synth.
Would have been very cool to contrast this with Mutable Instruments Elements, a very similar modal synthesiser in hardware. (edit, you dont need to do it in hardware - theres an official plugin version as part of VCV Rack)
Sounds great but I lost interest in Reason when they went down the subscription route. Sure, you can still buy a perpetual licence of Reason 12 but it costs more than the old Reason Suite and contains only a fraction of the instruments and effects you used to get, so you'd have to be mad to.
Jef did a fantastic showcase of what seems like a really great instrument. And it would be totally the kind I’d get. - But having purchased and updated many times, beginning with Reason 1.0, I’ve also stopped at version 11 because of their change in business model since 12. The company clearly still has some excellent developers, but the business side of things currently just doesn’t resonate with me anymore. 😢
I hear you all! I’m hopeful that if they hear this enough they’ll consider your complaints. The subscription is great for newcomers or try-before-you-buy… but no good for people who have already invested!
If you upgrade when on sale then buy the Objekt you still don't pay more than a regular priced instrument of the same quality, and you get all the other Reason instruments and FX in addition. I don't understand why old Reason users complain since your can update from V6 or v10 for the same price.
@@rikkshow as pointed out by @richinparadise : users of the old Reason Suite v11 ended up having no upgrade path to a similar package in v12. This broke a trust level about the relationship for many of us who had upped their commitment beyond the standard Reason. I've been using it for 18 years and I barely twiddle any knobs except for mixing purposes. I get your point although it can be fun messing with it. You have your needs. Can't argue with them
Similar to Logic’s Sculpture in its physical modelling, which has been around for 15+ years. Not a new synthesis method, but always an interesting approach.
It makes Sculpture look like a child’s toy. Sure, not a new synthesis method, but Reason Studios made it not only incredibly powerful and brilliant sounding, but super easy and inviting to program and explore sound design.
While the synth was somewhat interesting, your playing and presentation was the saving grace here. Good job my friend!

Started sounding like a Bonobo track when you added the bass. What a fun workflow and so nice to see you build up an idea from scratch, great video
I am a fan! Though I saw him live and many songs were just him playing bass to backing tracks which got a little old... Still, he's got great music!
The synth strikes me as a very good tool for layering with other synths to add additional resonances.

I just resubbed to reason+ cause of you 😂

Another great video review. Thanks Jeff!

Hi Jef
Love your videos! We’re just wondering what monitor are you using because that thing is amazing?
That beat is smooth, love your style

Sounds really Amazing 🔥

I have a vid on it in the description, just a tv! But I love it…
It’s on sale right now for a few days. I trialed it when it came out and got it for a decent discount today.
It would be an instant buy for me, if only they would add MPE support!

Just get a can of Flat White Rust-Oleum

Reason is a daw but Reason Rack is the vst version that you can use in your daw of choice.

Do you use Maschine as your primary DAW?
Cubase as my main DAW, maschine for all beatmaking and sampling.

Objekt the best instrument? What a weird way to name ZebraHZ hehegreat video tho.
