My family has lived on Long Island since July of 2008. I've been following the Islanders every day since October of 2011 when John Tavares scored a hat trick against the Rangers to beat them 4-2. I was 9 years old at that time. He was my hero growing up. As a pre-teen and in my early teenage years I never thought that he would leave but when July 1, 2018 came I was crushed to my core. My mom's parents came over for lunch that afternoon and I didn't even say hi to them, I literally couldn't talk to anyone that day after the news broke that Tavares signed with Toronto. Brendan Burke was hired by the Islanders as their play by play broadcaster in August 2016 after Howie Rose stepped down, at first I was disappointed because he was the voice that I grew up with when the Islanders were a bottom feeder almost every year. Burke quickly won over the Islander fan base with his broadcasting which is second to none. He writes amazing opening monologues, my top three favorites are when the Islanders returned to Nassau Coliseum in December 2018, John Tavares' return to Long Island in February 2019, and when the Islanders opened UBS Arena in November 2021 after struggling for so long to get a new arena built to replace the crumbling Nassau Coliseum after the Lighthouse Project was rejected by Nassau County voters in August 2011. Burke lives on Long Island with his wife and three young children year round. He is beloved by the Islander fan base.
As an Islanders fan I would be sad to see Burke go national full-time but the NHL needs this type of announcer to escape the unenthusiastic mess that we all have to endure in the post-season. He's amazing and all of the NHL benefits. @5:40 that Washington goal got me just as excited as he was. THAT'S how you do it!

Just read that Brendan Burke is being considered as the replacement for the Yankees pbp veteran John Sterling. As of January 2023, Mr. Sterling’s ready for the baseball season to start.
„Mat Barzal trying catch up to this one. Poking on Ristoleinen. Got thru. Mat Barzal between his LEEEEGS! Take a bow Mat Barzal!” That’s what I miss here. My absolute favourite NHL announcer!
Jack Michaels is now the Oilers TV play-by-play announcer; John Bartlett was formerly the Toronto Maple Leafs’ play-by-play announcer; Bob Cole is now retired
It's so sad he's stuck with that atrocious co-commentator it makes Isles broadcasts tough to listen to he's so much better on NBCSN with better analysts
@@starkconplays That's Butch Goring who won 3 cups with the Islanders. He's a legend and Islanders fans love having him call games. The chemistry he has with Brendan is great 99% of the time. To a national audience he may suck but we love him and that's what matters.
i’ll never understand the attraction to him, he hardly ever has anything interesting to add and is mainly talking just to talk. also repeats the same analysis game in and game out, take a shot every time someone “makes absolutely no mistake”. i’ve been hoping AJ Mleczko would replace him but apparently never gonna happen
I honestly dont like brendan burke. When he commentates rangers games for nbc, he is more hyped when the other team scores and when rangers score he isn't hyped at all. John forslund is the hurricanes commentator. When he broadcasts nbc games he is hyped when both teams score, but brendan isnt.
I see what you mean. I'm not trying to be biased as an islanders fan but I agree and disagree with you. I agree that sometimes he could be more one sided on nbc. I disagree because of two reasons. My first is that he isnt the only commentator to do that. I've seen other current commentators like john forslund (like you said) and Kenny albert be one sided. My second reason is that he has two jobs, one as an nbc commentator and another as the isles msg play by play announcer. He tries to save his hipeness for goals by the islanders and tries to keep it more cool for both sides when commentating on msg. However, during the playoffs when he isnt commentating the second round he does tend to get way more hyped. So that is my take on your opinion. Ps I'm not trying to say you are wrong I'm just disagreeing on your opinion, just like you could disagree on mine
I’ve been thinking of doing a short 3-5 minute video for each team on their most electrifying goals, what do you guys all think?
Great idea and can u also do the avalanche announcer to plz
For rangers you definitely have to do zabanajads 5 goals
One hundred persent

He’s gonna be the next generation’s doc. Doc will forever be unmatched, but I think Brendan is the best we’ll get.

He’s still got so much to go! Only 36 years old

Definitely one of my favorite announcers! I'd love to see Moser (COL) soon. Every goal is like a Game 7 winner with him.

Sticking with the NY area, you should do Howie Rose (Brendan Burke’s predecessor). Super underrated and deserves more recognition.
