When Nelly did that interview with What Up Doe radio, Ali's best friend was sitting right there. At the start of the interview, Nelly said "T-Luv stop me when im lying"......T-Luv didn't stop him once in that hour and a half.
“We weren’t shopping around” bruh y’all were a group for YEARS and couldn’t get signed by ANYBODY. The major label then chose Nelly (because he’s a star) & then Nelly put the group on. Let’s stop with the bs.
It was the country grammar single off the lunatics underground album in 1998 that made them choose Nelly as a solo artist. It was the hardest song on the album and the only song that Nelly was on by his self. My homeboy pretty Tony and his cousin trale from u City had the CD in the hood before most of the city even heard it. I knew off top he was going to get a deal off of that song the first time I heard it. That was 1997 1998. Murphy Lee also had a hot single on that same album.
They ask him every single interview…whether he’s lying or not is a different story BUT they ask him the same questions It’s kills me when people don’t use simple logic..”such and such keeps talking about the same thing in this interview” THE INTERVIEWEE BRINGS THEM ON TO DO JUST THAT
Snoop said it best. Everybody can’t be a superstar. Period. Ali gotta realize that if the public wanted to see and hear more from him we would have. That demand would have made it happen. Stop blaming others because you never popped.
I will add that not everybody puts themselves out there to get opportunities. Many sit back and wait for the “manna from Heaven”. And then get mad if it doesn’t happen for them but it happens for other people since they put the work in.
I agree with you both! End of the day, that man Nelly is a dang ⭐️! Period, he is a pop star. I’ve never listened to Nelly for his lyrical content lol it’s his swagger, the beat, funny lines. I don’t think Any person in that group could have done what Nelly did
He's saying Nelly didn't help him with his albulm but also said he wrote the albulm for the Lunatics. So, if he wrote the hits for the first two albulms, and Nelly didn't, why couldn't he produce the same success for his solo albulm? Remember, you claim to be the writing genius. 7:02 "It wasn't about ME, it's like Damned you taking Murph sometimes, you take Keywon sometimes... don't separate MY sh*t like this..." 🤔 Yeah, nahhh. This n*gga talking out both sides. Nelly's story sounds a lot more believable. Especially given the fact that the groups manager LOVE, who is also supposed to be one of Ali's best friends and KeyWon's cousin... never disputed anything Nelly said. And Nelly kept saying to him, "Tell me when I'm lying Love!" Love only corrected Nelly one time... when Nelly said he negotiated that every member of the group gets a solo option if he sells $300,000 units. Love said it was $200,000. 🤷♂ I ain't saying, I'm just saying. This n*gga said he told Nelly to sign the trash deal in the beginning just so they could get on and then go from there, but now when the opportunity for the same thing to present itself comes to his door, he (Ali) was offered a solo deal and didn't take it. Yeah, okay.
This is ridiculous! They need to all LET IT GO! Nelly moved on… they moved on and had other opportunities after and that’s that! So much time has passed! They have to let this disdain for Nelly leaving go! They won’t ever be able to have reunion’s because of this. This is just sad! 🙄🤦🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️
Ali just sounds bitter. Nelly did everything he was suppose to do. It’s not like he got on and left the group in St Louis. The Lunatics could have did a Wu Tang and had success with multiple solo acts, but Murph was the only success outside of Nelly. Kyjuan didn’t do an album and Ali’s album wasn’t a success. 🤷🏿♂️
It’s really pathetic. Someone who is able to see his family because of Nelly, and didn’t made the most out of his 15 minutes of playing the side kick, come back around and literally bite the hand that fed him. This is disloyal and ungrateful. I’m happy for Nelly getting away from this entitled leech
“People saying they made Hov, okay, we’ll make another Hov” if Ali pen was as hard as he says it was why hasn’t he put himself or another artist on other than Nelly?
Nelly did a Ralph Tresvant and said not without my friends🤣 Didn't they still get record deals, Murphy Lee seemed to do very well. What was Ali problem? That Nelly didn't tell him every step of the way. This seems to be causing him great pain, while Nelly is still touring and is back in love with Ashanti. Ali has to come to 2023 and get therapy, he's all over the place.
In Nelly’s interview he said he told Ali to go for a different single for his album and he said no and chose to do it another way. But now Ali is saying Nelly never helped him
That's true cause nelly didnt want ali to do boughetto cause it sounded more like Murphy Lee's style of wordplay but the song that fit ali more was the song "Ore Ore O".
I'm still trying to figure out why Ali didn't listen to Nelly, Nelly had just sold a diamond album. If I'm Ali I'm listening to every word the man say, I wanna go at least gold.
@@leonsummers6460 I'm guessing it's because ali would most of the time pick some of the beats and then come up with the concepts with the hooks and melodies that would hopefully catch somebody ear but sometimes his vision with records didn't always work that's why Nelly always had better records than he did cause nelly came out ready since he already had that charisma to be a megastar and more driven than anybody else in the lunatics an this is one of the reasons why "Heavy starch album bricked as well as the "Kinfolk" album with Big Gipp since Ali could never make a decent quality album that could possibly be a classic but instead he just had good singles for the radios and that's it.
In every Interview in the past the story was very different. The Group members always said that Nelly didn‘t want to take a solo deal and they had to convince him. Now he‘s a mad old man and he‘s not sure about Nellys mind for the group. Bad Charakter right there
It’s a hard pill to swallow when you dog out ya lil homie and the rolls reverse. The moral of this story is do unto others as you want others to do unto you. Honestly Ali should be grateful that Nelly was solid enough to keep them boys around because realistically any fame the St. Lunatics got from the outside looking in was because Nelly over delivered and was in position to call shots. Nelly was the marketable one, just face facts. We gotta stop doing this in our culture, everybody can’t be the star. We all need good role players, another moral of the story.
Exactly. If nelly album doesn't do well he loses leverage to put them on thrue him. Once he blew the label was with whatever he wanted and asap he dropped free city and introduced the world to the st lunatics. Any member had the resources and platform of nelly to do whatever they wanted to do. Not just in music but buisness and all that. It seems to me that everybody blew they money and nobody brought back there publishing still to this day but nelly and city spud.
Ali the supposed to be the business brain!! Wrote all the shyt on 2 diamond albums and he still crying. His publishing checks still supposed to be stupid. That's were he failed, he was good at nothing but writing and he didn't know what he was doing and nobody could tell him nothing. Following Ali, all them niccas would be working in a plant right now
Ali was still touring with Nelly for several years after the other members had long gone. I just think he's hurt by the loss of his friendship with Nelly. I've never heard Prez seem so irritated with an interviewee until now.
Thank you! Listening to these interviews, they seemed very entitled and didn’t have a great work ethic. Sounds like the New Edition story. Ralph was the lead and had to put in more work while the others went off to do whatever.
Didn’t Ali read Donald Passman book, “All You need to know about the music business”? Isn’t he the one that went to college? I mean same way Nelly was trying to stand on business when he was shoving that contract down his throat for the “Gimme What U Got” record he should’ve been standing on business if he wrote 80% of “Country Grammer”. Ain’t no way in hell I would’ve been left out that publishing check.
Ali said nelly wasn't in position to demand they all get solo deals. He's right, thats why nelly had to agree to sell 250k or more to get them solo deals. Nelly never said he demanded they get solo deals. He had to make an agreement in writing. Nelly said they tried to verbally agree, but Nelly said no, it needs to be in writing. Smh. Ali is full of booty juice
What is Ali tryna gain from this? I remember last year watching Nelly break this down & Murph broke this down as well. The thought of if Nelly doesn’t do this solo deal, they would’ve continued to keep grinding in the early 2000s with no national success. The label took a shot at him & after the success of Country Grammar, he pushed y’all in front to drop the group album. Your song was the main song for the Osmosis Jones movie. If Ali felt a way at the time then he should’ve just left the group. You was all in the videos & had featured verses. He himself couldn’t find solo success so you gonna hate on the man that put a spotlight on the whole city? Ali just ungrateful
Nelly tried to put them on and ultimately their talent didn’t prevail. For him to say he wrote 90% of the hooks is crazy . If that’s the case why did he need help with his album 🤔
He didn't say he needed help your missing the point he's saying if Nelly was doing it for the better ment of the group he would've helped Ali with his album the same way Ali helped Nelly with his because he's was thinking about the group and trying to help everybody succeed . That's the point he was making.
@@jgibson8092 that makes no sense. If you wrote 80% of a damn album and essential was the reason the album went diamond, what the hell you need Nelly for? He did not write 80% of no damn album. And when it comes to a group with a group member who is the most outgoing, attractive, confident AND talented, the other group members expect that person to not go out a get something for him or her. They are banking on being carried by that individual. In addition when it comes to a group, there is always that 1 member that goes harder.

This. And at the time it was happening, Ali was ALL THE WAY with it! The revisionist history is bullshit.

Smh. I hear what he saying but at the same time without Nelly the world wouldn’t know who Ali is and we do! After that what more can he do.. you got the light what you do with at that point is on you.
Life advice. Don’t help anyone before you help yourself.
Of course it was for the betterment of the group. He could’ve said f@@k you and went and did him
What Nelly say? Ain’t nobody gonna leave the show cause Ali didn’t show up 😂😂😂😂😂
No matter who’s fault it was…
NOBODY is interested in the St lunatics without NELLY…
the end!
Bullshit, yes we are
Facts
Murphey Lee was dope as well.. we need Murphy Lee on vlad next
He was not too long ago
Ali said Nelly didn’t help him for his album, but in the same breath said he wrote all the hooks etc….If you doing All the writing how they gone help you? You already got it apparently 😂🤦🏾♂️
This just makes me respect yayo even more man. Play your part ali
The man claims to know the buisness. But failed to get writers credit on the "songs" he wrote on country grammer. But he signed away his publishing so he wouldnt be getting no money away.
So who got writers credit for all those songs?
@@California-king the mf that wrote and rapped them and the people who were featured on the songs. But none of the st lunatics got paid resididuals cause they signed away there publishing from the contracts Ali had them sign before nelly popped off
@@California-kingI’m thinking that it’s the first record company that got that money
Ali look every bit of 65-67 YEARS OLD
Sometimes you gotta go solo to get bigger, look at 50 he been was solo before g-unit but even when he came with g-unit he had to let go of the group because everybody not doing they job they get comfortable and be like forget it, and that can stun you as an individual
He acting like Nelly jus left them out to dry when he literally reached back and made the lunatics blow up
Shawn Perez you did a great job with this interview. ❤
No he didn't. He should've played clips from Nelly's interview that contradicted everything that Ali was saying.
Prez is da man! Always solid! ✊🏾
Shawn prez don’t know how to talk
Prez aint shit! He takes 5 minutes to formulate a question and then another 5 to say that’s not the question I asked!
@@Smooth-ww1efhe ain't in charge of editing lol.. he just interview.. Vlad staff supposed to have that handled
Man.. WTF is Ali talking about here? Did he and the St. Lunatics get put on by NELLY with a group and solo album deals or not? Did NELLY demand and facilitate this for them all with the understanding that he had to sell at least 250-350 thousand copies? It’s a simple question! If nobody wanted the St. Lunatics then how in the heck did they ALL get solo deals and a group album deal if Nelly didn’t demand it off top? Even if Nelly didn’t push for them off the top as he stated.. those guys got put on regardless and I’m 100 percent certain that Nelly was responsible for it directly or indirectly! Universal wouldn’t touch that project without Nelly’s involvement! Universal saw it was more millions and platinum albums to be had! Ali bullshitting man! Stop it dude!🛑 ✋ it’s sounding ridiculous now 🤦🏽♂️😩🤬
I respect Ali, but he has a solo album, a St Lunatics album, and a duo album with Gipp. And outside of the Lunatics album, the others were only moderately successful. He has a career that was longer than the average "non star" rapper
I'm glad he shout trell out
I HONESTLY BELIEVE ALI WHEN HE SAYS HE WROTE MOST THAT ALBUM. HE QUOTES THOSE VERSES ALL THE TIME VERY EASILY. PAPERWORK WASNT RIGHT AND IT HAUNTS HIM TO THIS DAY.
Its a shame you have to have paperwork for your own brother but that is the wicked world that we live in... Money and fame turns a man into a devil
Shouldn’t take paper work for u to support yo brothers with their solo albums when they helped you go diamond
@@realzombie2731 I agree.
I can kinda agree , plus Neva had an LP to match CG. Ali probably wrote most the hooks but Nelly had the Swag to deliver. Money changes things
@@Shomari_Supreme Neva came close to duplicating that. There was a reason for that.
If he made Nelly and the St. Lunatics then make another.
He sounds like he mad he ain't Pop
Country Grammar sold 10,000,000 units and Ali was only given one writing credit for the song "steal the show" while city spud and Murphy Lee have multiple wring credits and producer credits for an album that went "diamond".
Ali hurt he didnt pop. Simple...
This the one
Facts 😂😂😂
Yes!!! He is bitter and it’s aging him.
