Marella Cruises (formerly Thomson Cruises) is a British cruise line operated by TUI UK, offering cruise holidays around Europe, the Caribbean, and Asia
Marella Explorer 2, formerly Celebrity Century and SkySea Golden Era, was the lead ship of the Century class of cruise ships for Celebrity Cruises, and the co-flagship of the Celebrity fleet, along with Millennium-class ship Celebrity Constellation, and the newest Solstice class, Celebrity Reflection. Other ships belonging to the Century class include Marella Explorer (formerly Celebrity Galaxy) and Mein Schiff 2 (formerly Celebrity Mercury).
In March 2018, it was announced that Royal Caribbean Cruises and Ctrip were to close the SkySea Cruise Line brand and that the line's sole ship SkySea Golden Era would join the Marella fleet in place of Mein Schiff 2 which would stay with TUI Cruises.
SkySea Golden Era underwent a major refurbishment, in Cadiz, Spain, in order to become Marella Explorer 2. Its first sailing for Marella Cruises was in April 2019.
The company then called Thomsons Holidays ( had initially entered the cruise market in 1973, but due to rising fuel costs the venture was terminated in 1976. In 1995, Thomson restarted their cruise line after their competitor Airtours had made a successful entry in the cruise business under their Sun Cruises brand.
On 9 October 2017, TUI Group announced that Thomson Cruises would be rebranded in late October 2017 as Marella Cruises, with all of the existing Thomson fleet adopting the name change either from Thomson or TUI to Marella (except Thomson Spirit which will be renamed Spirit and Thomson Majesty which will be transferred to Celestyal Cruises). The line also announced that it would base TUI Discovery in Asia for the Winter season of 2018, with the ship being based out of Malaysia, the first in the line's history.
In 2012, Tui / Thomson Cruises holds approximately a 1% market share of the worldwide cruise industry.
In May 2021, with the cruise sector planning for revival following the COVID-19 pandemic, TUI were reported to be planning to merge Marella Cruises with their TUI Cruises joint venture with Royal Caribbean, as they had already done with Hapag-Lloyd Cruises.

Great video- brings back happy memories! Loved the Buffet restaurant & terrace- unusual to see it so quiet.
Yes it was quiet I took a lot of the video on a changeover day, most passengers had left the ship that morning and new passages had yet to arrive.
Beautiful.
Very good informative tour which covers everything available 👍

Just looking at booking my first ever cruise for me, my wife and 20 year old daughter…this video was very helpful. I think this could be the ship we book on 👍 thank you.
You are very welcome, there are a couple if other vlogs I did on the explorer 2 if you want to check them out
Thank you Mr & Mrs Russell for doing this fantastic video. I will be going on the Marella Explorer 2, in August 2023. It will be my first cruise and I will be travelling solo, so this helps me out a great deal, and is very much appreciated. Because I have autism, it is extremely important that I get an idea of what it will be like. I know I have an outside deck single room, but no idea what deck or anything else. But this is so helpful to me.
You are very welcome, thanks so much for watching, and taking the time to comment it's nice to get feed back. Have a fantastic time (I know you will) Marella have some of the friendliest staff at sea, you will meet some nice fellow passengers and visit some lovely destinations.
Thanks guys brilliant video creator 👍👍😀 love your style

Hi thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. 👍😎
amazing video!! on that ship soon, do you have to wear black trousers with black shoes for restaurant?
Thanks for watching, 👍 for evening meal in main dining room you can wear dark trousers or dark jeans, people wear nice trainers or dark shoes.. Day time lunch / breakfast you can wear shorts and open shoes/ flip flops .
Going on the 6th of June next week what are the movies like on the top deck as I can’t find anything on this
Hi thanks for watching 👍😎, the movies are ok I guess 👍 family friendly kinda stuff
Nice video, we have booked this ship for a 18 day cruise for April, a bit worried it may be a bit long and a bit tiresome after 18 days, from your experience would you say it is worth going on or are we better just booking a traditional holiday?
Hi thanks for watching 😎. 18 night cruise would make me think it's a repositioning cruise ? April could be a transatlantic ? All I would say ( having done several repo cruises) is don't underestimate the number of sea days, 4 or more days at sea is not for everyone and if the weather is poor it's not ideal for some. Personally we don't mind sea days as there are often extra things to do on board ( lectures, talks, crafting, dance lessons ect) . It's all a very personal choice, such as cabin selection etc hope this helps 😊 any other questions you can email us at 😎👍 if you could be so kind please like the vlog and subscribe to the Chanel 😎👍 travelswiththerussells@gmail.com
@@TravelswiththeRussells many thanks for the reply, yes it is the Transatlantic one also with an indoor cabin, loving the videos and have subscribed 🙂
@@danielleharvey4541 we always go inside cabin,😊 thanks for the subscribe 👍
Make shore is got plenty of diesel in it we've just come back the second week on board the ship ran out of diesel which then delayed seeing the last two Islands 75 hours out at sea so everybody decided to drink the bars dry captain's incompetence has cost twi quite a bit of money
Hi thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, ran out of fuel lol who would have thought it, good job they didn't run out of booze 😜
Not many slots in the Casino!! Which is not good!! And No high limit room!! Which cruise ship has the best Casino!!
Hi thanks for watching 😎👍 the casino is very small, most of the British based cruise lines cruise lines only have relatively small areas for the casinos, cruise lines such as MSC & Royal Caribbean have very large areas dedicated to the casino. Check out my MSc Virtuosa full ships tour, that has a massive casino 😎😎🍺👍
Great video, really informative, thanks! One little niggle - 20% off in duty-free is not strictly true when looking at the VAT inclusive price of £1.20, £0,20 off is 20/120x100 = 16.67% . I'm a bit of a bore when it comes to stuff like that - sorry🙄
Yes that's true, you are right about the vat 👍
Please may I ask when this video is from, it seems very quiet
It was end of May 2022, but most of the main video was shot on a change over day, so the ship was not busy (we did a back to back cruise).
No cabin tour?
Hi yes the video below has a cabin tour of the explorer 2. It's on my channel thanks 👍

@@TravelswiththeRussells ok great, thanks! Are you back in Paphos now?
@@normanlee31 no back in UK at moment. Cruise next week on MSC out of Southampton 😎👍
Wearing face diapers🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yep seems like years ago now, and you had to take your temperature every day at a machine that scans your cruise card.😮
8 days ago and still wearing masks and covid restrictions
No, mask wearing for passengers not required I state this on the video. Also temperature checks are no longer required and I say that in the video. some country's have reintroduced mask wearing in public indoor spaces (such as Cyprus) . Glad I can clear this up, but it is clearly on the video.
I wasn’t really listening I was just looking
@@superlarsson07 no problem at all
Literally in the opening seconds of the video ON THE Screen is says about mask wearing, no longer required .
👍
