    I have two gay brothers; the fear they lived in during that time was palpable. Their friends, one by one, year after year after year. The loss was catastrophic. Thank God in heaven I still have my precious brothers. I am eternally grateful. God Bless those who did not make it.

    OMG I saw this on tv back in 91"/92" when I was about 20! It scared me, especially since I lived in San Francisco at this time. I used to catch a bus in front of an AIDS clinic and I remember seeing young people in their 20's walking with a cane or looking very sickly. You could really tell back then. It changed my whole life. Today, I'm a healthy (negative) 50 yr old female. I never lived a promiscuous life. No drinking, no drugs. I know you could do all the right things and still get it, but I did make a conscious effort to avoid risky situations and worked on prevention. I credit that inpart to documentaries like this.

      @MINOUTFTABOU Год назад +12

      At that time I was only five years younger than you and I mourned Freddie Mercury very much.
      Then I did the right thing and didn't want to live promiscuously, because Queen's last music video was a shocker for me at the time.
      I lived in a huge Village community at that time and there were a lot of teenagers
      from 14 to 17/18 years old who were very sexually active. These stupid things really thought AIDS only existed in San Francisco,
      Los Angeles, New York or London.
      I didn't want to have anything to do with these b**bo and hussy from this huge Village community.
      One has only one life and one health.

Another wonder is my brother, whose wife was diagnosed in 2008, but was suspected to have gotten it in 1995, they’ve been married for forty years, with 2 biological kids, never used protection until her diagnosis is 2008, she died from it 2 years later as it was already AIDS when it was caused and had developed cancer from it. Im sure most of the people in this documentary died before the cocktail treatments became available in 96/97. Not all people died. Many were on Azt and many also got involved in Clinical trials. Some may have lived to 1995,1999 or died. The virus affects each individual differently. Some people stayed HIV + and millions more accelerated to ARC then on to full blown AIDS. There are thousands of Long term survivor's from the 1980's and 1990's. Again they are a special segment and they didn't give up like others..who just gave up. Just like Cancer..you are your own best advocate. Surgery, Chemotherapy and Radiation.. ..

      My thing is, why would a venereal disease be so shocking especially if a gay man is penetrating another gay man in the anus it’s not shocking at all we’re not stupid we’re very intelligent human beings, and sometimes people just are in denial, and do not want to, except the fact that they are the ones that caused their parts to fall off. This is not a shocking disease it’s not a shocking infection. This is some thing that was supposed to happen because of the strength of men being too prideful, and having sex with other men, it’s very simple. God did not create a world were men were supposed to have sex with other men. It was supposed to be men and women. Yeah, man always turn things into a joke. This is why many people sad to say die back then, because they were not using protection, and they were not taking care of their bodies, nor were they going to go get check ups. This was a very avoidable venereal disease. .

      Has nothing to do with you living in a time. Were you could get the infection again people are very incompetent. It has something to do with the fact of sleeping with another man and having sexual intercourse with another man that’s where the disease came from. it is passed on genetically to women through sex with a man women cannot pass on. This disease is very slim because women don’t carry the virus. Men carry the virus so when you have sex with other men, this is what the virus causes. It’s common sense yet. People are in denial because they want to be free and gay. This is why the Bible says that being gay is an abomination. Yet men are too prideful as always this is why your parts are falling off.

      Exactly, like that’s exactly what I’ve been stating in the comments like it’s disturbing and it’s a bit disgusting that some of these people did not take the time to go get checked out sooner than later a lot of them decided to wait until the disease spread to the point of no return I mean your kidneys are falling out there’s no way that you don’t have kidney pain there’s no way that you’re not that you’re not experiencing exhaustion, there’s no way that you’re not experiencing fatigue, there’s no way that you’re not experiencing blood in your bowels, there’s no way they are not experiencing nausea, there’s no room for the excuse of not going to go get checks up there’s no fucking room for the excuses and I’m tired of people making excuses for people that have a venereal disease that they’ve cause upon themselves, and for the people that did not cause it upon themselves may they rest in peace because majority of the time women can’t even get this disease has passed on by men because men are nasty, and men are too prideful to go get checked up.

      This has nothing to do with society sweetheart. If you think this has to do with society, you need to do further research on taking responsibility and holding ourselves accountable for the actions and choices that we decide to make. I do not feel bad for majority of these people on this phone, because at the end of the day majority of them cause this upon themselves again, a lot of people fail to understand the concept that this was a choice that they made to sleep with multiple individuals without using protection. This was a choice you make the choice with your body when you lay down just like you made the choice to comment on here you had a choice to come, and you had a choice not to, you chose to comments what’s the difference between them and the decision that they made?
      Live your life be grateful that you don’t have the disease ! ❤

Medical management consisted of treating symptoms and the various opportunistic infections. Eg: pentamadine for pneumocystis, nystatin for candida, foscarnet for CMV infections, chemotherapy for kaposis sarcoma was discovered to be counterproductive but radiotherapy was used where possible.

      If you mean homosexuality, it is not a "lifestyle" just as heterosexuality isn't. It had been known to mankind (esp. heterosexual ones) that syphilis is passed on during sex since ancient times, they never thought of a form of safer intercouse for centuries, that's why we have the large numbers of drug resistant infections we have have today. And in terms of Jesus, well he died for all of humanity's sins, didn't he? You can't start a sentence with "I love anyone" but then continue with a statement of bigotry & keep going with "well, it's all your lifestyle's fault, this is god's punishment for your wrong life & I'm stating the only right way to live." I hope you see what's the problem here. It's a virus that evolved from apes, it's what viruses do since the dawn of time, a big part of our human DNA is made of integrated ones. Animals can get viral infections, even bacteria. Do they live a "wrong lifestyle"? We are all humans & a part of life on this planet, & so are (unfortunately sometimes) viruses for all kinds of life, no punishment in that, period.

      They didn’t know it was coming. The gay sexual revolution was in the ‘70’s. It exploded like a power keg because they had been forced into a closet for decades. Now, undoubtedly , this is when the epidemic started spreading, but again - they didn’t even know it was there. By the time they did, it was too late, but after people began being educated, the rates of infection in the gay community went down while heterosexual cases skyrocketed.

That’s as illogical as your hatred. You don’t know Trump personally nor does he have anything to do with your brother and his passing. Furthermore, despite what the media tries to portray, there is no evidence of him being homophobic nor was anyone denied medical treatment for HIV under his administration.
