I think this is the first time Trump's been portrayed in a drama rather than a satire. It's fascinating to watch. Brendan Gleeson does a great job here

I was wondering what was so off-putting about this clip and that is exactly it. You put it into words. He's so goofy-looking that I feel like they're winding up to a punchline.

Gleeson does Trump in such a fantastic, non-satirical way. Having seen The Comey Rule, I keep returning to watch this clip to appreciate his craft.
Facts watched this scene so many times
the voice isnt even remotely the same, but then again Trump has an extremely distinctive voice and speech pattern. The body language and facial expressions are spot on though.

Gleeson nails this. The speech patterns, the dull-witted menace, the egomania, and ignorance. It's genuinely creepy.
He speaks in full sentences. Trump never does that.

My two cents: Gleeson nailed a lot of trump's mannerisms, manner of speaking, and accent, his Irish accent slips in a tiny bit, and trump could only wish he had Gleeson's intimidating growl of a voice, but it's excellently done.
Dan Witzke very much agree, the Irish does come through a bit and sounds a bit funny, and the tone is definitely not the same as trumps. But of course he can’t do a full blown Trump impression the whole time like a comedian would since that’s not sustainable. Kinda had to be this way tbh.
@@caglioso i mean, if he did it like most comedians, yeah it'd be unsustainable, as most comedians only impersonate trump's "rally voice", if you will -- yelling, gesticulating, flailing from point to point. save for maybe darrel hammond, who i think played him a bit more subtly. if he did an impersonation of trump's more soft-spoken voice you'd see in mundane contexts, like some less important press conferences, i think that could've been sustainable.

I enjoy Brendan's performance because he gets a lot of the small mannerisms down that I hadn't actually noticed before like the deep intake of air before he speaks and the little held tilts. Most people focus on his hands and his lips, but his head and breathing also make the character. Also the writing is really good in this scene. First Brendan says you know what I expect and you get lost in his little narcissistic speech until it comes around again and ends on that point. Loyalty. Trump's demand for loyalty stems from his neurosis. He demands loyalty because he honestly believes he has all the answers.
He’s so freaking creepy here. Definitely villainous.

Gleeson’s impression of Trump is 50% amazing and 50% awful. I genuinely can’t stop watching it because I’ve never been so conflicted over a performance.
Personally I think the same way, the way that Gleason talks, the speech patterns and even breathing patterns, and his slight mannerisms are amazing. It’s the look that’s a little distracting as it strays from what Trump really looks like in a large way. Gleeson doesn’t really look like him regardless of the makeup and hair. Overall, not a bad interpretation of Trump, as most of them are usually comedic and this one is used more dramatically.
tbf not many people could play Trump. He is too much of a cartoon character to dramatically play but Gleeson does a commendable job here.

The face that he doesn’t look exactly like Trump is not a problem for me, as he gets so much else right about him he just nails it in my opinion. I would love to see a recording of how this dinner actually went and compare, but that’s not gonna happen.

I saw Comey interviewed by PBS. He said that the portrayal of Trump by Brendan Gleeson in the movie is dead on in terms of how menacing Trump is in private.

I can’t wait till they make a Trump retrospective film some day, and I’m sure they will like they did with Lincoln, Roosevelt, Kennedy, Nixon, etc. Love Trump or hate him, his personality is truly unique and the odd cast of characters that have been associated with him in real life would also make a movie about his life very interesting.
This guy playing Trump is so spot on. It’s amazing he gets so many subtle details right like the way Trump inhales while he’s speaking. Unfortunately like another commenter said, any spot on performance of Trump will still look ridiculous.

There is a scene where a McDonald's Egg McMuffin is delivered to Trump on a sliver tray. I remember Trump serving a Championship team with Big Macs on the table stacked up in piles. There is a photo of Trump smiling next to the table full of McDonald's and he looks happier than when he's with Melania.
They served McDonald's during a government shutdown and there was no kitchen staff at the White House.
Watching this is giving me second hand embarrassment. It’s feels like what would happen if Lifetime tried to make a movie about the government and somehow convinced a lot of celebrities to be in it.
It'll be an interesting challenge in the future. How do you portray a guy like Trump without making him look ridiculous? This gets the teeth-sucking, the weird pauses, the "man person woman camera TV" way of talking, but his eyes are too wide, his brows too thick and he's missing the orange tan/pale skin around the eyes. Trump narrows his eyes constantly, he leans forward when he walks, his suits are ridiculously oversized, his hair is piled thickly on his head, his lips pooch out, and the things he says often sound completely nutty. How do you make that work if you're trying to accurately portray the guy?

He left 80 billion dollars in military property in Afghanistan which could've went towards the infrastructure deal or our poverty stricken communities or homeless! Funny how you suggest all of these anomalies was already installed before biden when it all started in April 2021 rather than covid19 alone! Speaking of the virus, no I didn't think it would magically disappear nor do I believe it ever will, it will only adapt and evolve just like the resilient human body should be allowed to do if chosen! Also, the virus isn't going to get any better as long as the thousand of illegals transported across the nation each night isn't tested for the virus at all nor do they enforce mandates on them! Biden wants to give those non citizens $450,000 each but I can't but to ask, what about the American families who need help?? I never voted in 2016 because I didn't care for neither candidate but I'm not in denial nor am I gonna pretend Trump didn't continue even improve America's economic value and economy, made American unemployed a historical low, lower costs of living, made Healthcare more abundant and affordable especially for our veterans and elderly, improved the female pay rates across the board historically high, had the lowest rates of sex, drug, child trafficking in American history, crime rates in our cities and states nationally was 132% lower and most importantly sir referring to your dictatorship accusation, Trump supported each Americans constitutional rights and amendments and never infringed on them! How is that a possible dictatorship sir???? Hey, you may not care to pay a little more for gas because you may be privileged enough to afford it but alot of Americans can't and I'd hate to choose transportation over utilities, mortgage, rent, food, etc for me and my 2 kids among so many more but hey, just a small price to pay to keep a mean Twitter account closed isn't it??
