- This is the first featured car of our private collection of Japanese import classics! We have 10 vehicles in total, all are 2-door coupes. Some of the vehicles have been fully restored, whereas others are currently underway. This Z31 turbo has been fully restored. ~69.5k miles on the clock... weekly driven... not super fast (even with the turbo) but extra points are added for the cool factor. Full review of car is offered. Enjoy!
Awesome video, literally my dream car. Currently scraping money together to get an 86! I'm only 18 lol
I picked up an 86 turbo on a trade a few years back.
What about a z32 300zx.
When I heard the door chime is the same as the 240sx is what really sold me. I’m a simple man
I didn't realize that this vehicle was so sought after. It's actually far from the favorite of my collection and I don't drive it very much, as it's not very exciting to me. So I just keep it in the garage and pull it out 2-3x a month. I haven't decided to sell this one yet but I do have another 1985 Z31 that has a custom "hot rod" conversion with a GMC V8 crate motor implant from Summit. I've had it for about 20 years now and it's a bit too loud for my liking these days. I'm probably going to sell that one and get a quieter replacement. If people would like to see a new video for my hot rod Z31 let me know and I'll drum one up-- right after I fix the wood-sawing noise vibration from the GoPro! :)
Dear Sir, I thought it over and I'm very interested in the car. I love these cars and I am sure I'd be happy to have this one. I even have a book about them authored by Brian Long. Do you have a website or email address you're able to share if you decide you'd like to sell it? Hope to hear back from you soon.
FYI- You may already know this but your missing the inserts for the t-tops. They pop in and are color coded and keep the heat from being so bad in the cabin. Great car and I miss mine and Henderson. Thanks
@@darylkik777 I still have them (they are still in great condition), I just don't use them. I usually take the t-tops out when I'm driving so there's really no use to have them installed.

@@Kris_Anderson Makes sense now. Beautiful car and still miss living in Henderson. Thanks
I had one just like this and I kept it for 10 years. I loved the car. I went on a long overseas job and had to sell it.😂Yours looks fantastic. Mine would only do 145 mph
PERFECT song selection for this car/video! Great video, btw! Love your Z-car!
I had zx300 turbo and so much fun driving in 1998
at 11:55 that is the injector fan shroud. The turbo model z31's had black window trim, 84-85 the trim was glossy black, and then 87-89 the trim is a flat black. NA models had chrome trim. There should also be a Nissan badge on the hatch under the spoiler on the drivers side. Afaik mud flaps were an option so you might not be missing them, just never had them.
Thank you. You are very knowledgeable about these vehicles! I appreciate it.
I bought my 1985 300ZX Turbo new back in Virginia Beach while I was in the Navy. Mine was burgundy with leather and electronic packages (digital gauges, steering wheel controls, climate control, stereo with equalizer). I can confirm what J57F says about black trim being standard on turbos, mud flaps being an option, and the Nissan badge under the spoiler. I also had optional louvers over the rear window painted to match. I can't remember the name of the company, but they offered an aftermarket turbo intercooler and exhaust system that I had to have. Great car, but when I moved to Nebraska in the mid '90s I found that Z-cars were so rare that I couldn't find knowledgeable service people, even Nissan dealers. When mine eventually needed engine and suspension work, the dealer charged me top dollar, but it came out of the shop worse than it went in, and they were clueless. I shed a tear when I traded it in. Thanks for the video to bring back fond memories.
Just a foot note. I had the Ven. number sand blasted on the T-Top over the top of each door. It looked good and discourges theft. You are fortunate with your T-Tops, mine leaked and no one intwo states tould stop it.
Really nice. I had a 1983 280ZX Datsun by Nissan 2+2 in 1988 with 28k T-TOPS, 5-Speed. Not fast but loved the back roads just cruising. And showing off the fuel gauges with the last quarter tank level. Then a Maroon 1985 300zx (normally aspirated) but T-tops, 5 speed and analog dash. I miss them both and just have memories and lots of pictures of them both. (A turbo would have been nice but at the time it was the right car at the right price. ) I like the look of the back of your car with the tint and all badging removed. The back window louvers would rattle and the paint peeled so be glad you do not have them. Sweet car, enjoy it. Just noticed Vegas. I lived in Henderson on Black Mountain for a few years and I do miss it.
I loved them when they came out. Wanted one but couldn’t afford it so I bought a used 1980 Chevy Monza with a V-8 and 4 speed manual trans. With some modifications I was smoking these with ease but I still wanted one.
Beautiful car! I have a 1993 300zx and I to have it to enjoy.
beautiful, first car I ever bought. got it at a car auction for nothing and rode the wheels off of it. I cried when I had to let it go. Beautiful work
I had a 86 in red, had to sell it 6 months after i got because i was in the military and was going overseas, great car!
Beautiful example. Nice that you keep it in great running condition.
I have one just like it, a black 1985 Turbo with cloth interior and analogue gauges. I believe the previous owner had the gold "Turbo" stripe removed from the sides. I also put LEDs in for the rear tail lights and directions, with switchbacks in the front AND rear under smoked lenses. In the front you can't even see that there are directional lights in the bumper until they light up (easily seen even in broad daylight) and in the rear I swapped out the standard reverse bulb/socket combo with the kind found in the front bumper. Now I have 4 very bright rear lights for backing up, but the outer two will revert to flashing amber should I use the directionals whether I'm going forward or in reverse.
Sounds like some interesting mods that you have there! Nice work.
I thought I knew everything about the 1984-86 Z until you showed the 5 lugs on the turbo, vs the 4 on the NA. Good job. Expected you to show the car talking... "Key is in the ignition". LoL my 86 Maxima still bitches - and I love her for it. Beautiful Z! - Show more!
It's in a very beautiful condition!
I'm only 16 years old, but when I'm 18 years old, my dream is to get a driver's license and ride this z32!! From Japan🇯🇵
Thanks! ... this is actually a Z31. The Z32 is from 1990-1996. I have a modified example posted here as well.

I'm sorry, it was so cool that I made a mistake, it's z31 lol
I bought a rough late 84 300Zx turbo looks like yours ..this Video was really helpful for me to find missing pieces I need.. I got it running and driving so far and their a blast thanks bro
Wow! This video is very helpfull! Im 15 and just learning about cars, and there happens to be a z31 50th anniversary edition sitting in my grandparents storage! Any chance you would have some pointers on any issues to look for and where to buy parts?? I would really love to restore it
love this video, trying to get one of these for my first car
Love these cars 😢😢😢😢😢
55 now but when I was 16 that was my dream car then the Z28 Iroc Z
My favourite car until the Gorgeous z32 twin turbo came along. Z31 was a looker in its day and the v6 hada lovely note. Did it outsell the z32?
my first car, loved it!
PC + 300ZX = Pure 80s
At 12:19 you were showing the engine bay and all the parts crammed into such a small space, and you said that silver cylindrical object was the alternator. It surely looks like one, but it is really the condenser for the air conditioning apparatus. I’m still trying to get my AC functioning in my ‘87 black turbo ZX. I hope your AC works, and you have a great example of what our cars should be. Very cool!
Yeah, the AC works just fine. It isn't as efficient as modern cars but it blows cool. It helps to keep the interior shields on the T-tops to cool the interior down. Otherwise it's a hot box with the sun overhead.
I ended up replacing the headliner and a bunch of other miscellaneous things with a black and beige plaid pattern and it looks great
thats a fuckin sexy car
Had a silver 84 Turbo. Very reliable, 0-60 in around 7.3 sec.
I bet you miss it today.
This is awesome! I want it!!!!
i loved my 85 turbo even though it was an automatic.
Wow this is Clean.
Whoa, looks like you just rolled it out of factory line. I think you shoud keep it. Thats gonna be rare in future for sure.
I am in love.❤
I just purchase one when I lefe Louisiana and went to port author tx.
What tint % do you have around the car?
Who restored it for you?
More reviews like these!!
Beautiful
hello I was wondering if you could help me out I just bought a 1988 nissan 300zx turbo and I have a couple questions when it comes to this car I also live in Vegas so if you could help me out I would appreciate it
No problem, man. Always good to help out a desert local. What do you need?
@@Kris_Anderson well is there any social media so we can talk through there I have Facebook and Instagram
What radio is that?
How do i check if its turbo?
80's made in Japan is the universe best.
Nice example. I'd like to see some driving vids. But fix the mic issue. Sounds like wood sawing every time you move the camera.
Noted!
Beautiful Z31. Dibs on if you sell lmao
when you get a new headliner...go with leather....Also. if anyone is reading this and knows how to bypass my lock on the T Tops, please let me know. I have the T Top key, but the lock wont budge...its been that way since i bought it..once i get it unlocked i wont ever lock it.
Hello, is the car Z Turbo for sale?
Access denied
@@Kris_Anderson 🤣
it's a radiator shroud.
Turbo cars did have black trim from the factory…
Is it for sale?
Unfortunately, it is not. It's too cool to let go of although the turbo version is a little disappointing. I think that the NA drives just the same.
@@Kris_Anderson If you feel like your turbo drives the same as the NA and the performance is not to standards, then it may need a tune-up or timing belt service if it hasn't already. Make sure you use NGK plugs and wireset. A fully tuned tuned turbo Z will blow away an NA even if it's stock.
I'd also like to mention Nissan didn't have the experience with turbocharging that Porsche did in the early 80's. They designed this car with a turbocharger using an internal wastegate set to 6.7 psi and no intercooler. It was built for low boost with lightning fast turbo spool up meant for everyday driving rather than racing. However, it was still the fastest Japanese car on the market in the U.S. in 1984 and only a few cars were faster.
By the way, if you change your mind about selling please let me know. I'd be very interested in this one.
How much do these go for?
Would trade my SC300 for a clean z31 anyday
O car the jiraiya kkkk
