Make no mistake. This win today by Novak was huge. He really needed a big win as he seeks to reboot his 2024 season and he got it today over a very accomplished player who took him out exactly one year ago in MC. What stood out to me was a solid gameplan and fearless execution. Musetti tied him up in knotts last year and it would have been easy to be intimidated today because Novak just doesn't have much match play this year but he looked rock solid. His passing shots were brilliant and he had his down the line backhand cooking! Novak showed great tenacity today coming back from an early break and really making Musetti work. He still has a long way to go but this is the kind of win that can propel him to the top of the game again
Musetti is inconsistent, he played much better last year than this time. It’s an overstatement to call this a big win for Djokovic, it was expected. But it will help him mentally for sure. Beating DeMinaur is also important for his confidence because he already lost to him this year.
I get it. Musetti is never going to win a grand slam but he is a solid player and very good on clay My point is Novak has not been there mentally most of the year and to get 3 wins at a venue where he has underperformed since 2015 with limited match play was important as he prepares to defend RG and heading into the Olympics for his last time
I would've loved Dimitrov to make another deep run here, but fair play to Rune. And hopefully Djokovic can find some form, nice job avenging last year's defeat today.
After Tsitsipas finally won his match - rocked out to stayin' alive - bee gees. 🤣🤣🤣 Let's go! And don't give Jannik Sinner a running forehand - that's an unregistered weapon.
Concerned why he has poor sportsmanship. Shakes hand and then gives excuse why he lost. He must be under to much pressure and needs to work on accepting who he is.
@@Mntguy-nr9vl Obviously not. People asking for more Ruud is one of the most popular comments every time. He's top 10, top 5 on clay and top 2 at Roland Garros. And he'd have more fans if TennisTV would include his matches. Weirdly they did separate highlights for his match with Hurcacz and made it not available in some countries.
I used to despise Tsitsipas but I have to say he’s grown on me a lot in the past year, I really respect his game and his hustle. He’s exceptionally talented, just up against an incredibly dominant era of male tennis players. But this was a spectacular win against Zverev.
Okay so apparently Rune is scheduled to play Sinner at 1PM tomorrow as the second match of the day. 1 PM as the second match of the day! The guy just played about 5 hours in a single day and he has to play freaking Jannik Sinner at 1PM whilst having spent around 5 sets and 5 hours in the past 24 hours once that match begins! Ridiculous! Why on earth is he not scheduled to play as the latest match of the day? That's straight up disrespectful from the tournament organizers/schedulers. Either theyre trying to knock Rune out of the tournament, or they straight up do not care about the match fitness of a guy like Holger Rune.
I totally agree! it's ridiculous, but I think they scheduled him earlier because of his doubles match with Fritz that has to be played tomorrow as well after suitable rest. Zverev played 3 matches today, one single and 2 doubles, that's insane!
Since the start of 2024, Sinner has played 60 sets in all his ATP tennis matches, and only lost 7. Only players who won 2 sets from him in the same match were Medvedev in the AO final and Alcaraz in Indian Wells (his only defeat in 2024). The other players to take one set from him were Djokovic, Monfils, and Griekspoor. No one has won more than 4 games in a set against him since Miami R32, when Griekspoor won the last set he lost in 2024 (as of today, April 11) by 7-5, and then lost the second set 7-5 before being crushed 6-1 in the third set. Unbelievable numbers!
Spoiler -- wtf happened here lmao 10:31 - Rune waits to return the serve close to the service box, hits it to Dimitrov's feet, who then does a casual behind the back shot to win the point Then 1 game later (10:46) Rune (a two-handed backhand player) tries for no reason whatsoever a one-handed backhand and of course fumbles it completely It's like they both got sunstroke during the match lmao
Rune kind of reminds me of Dimitrov (not the playstyle of course) in a way that he's undeniably very talented and has huge potential but lacks the consistency and determination. He'll always be in Sinner's and Alcaraz's shadow, until he proves me wrong.
Lets look at the storylines Nole gets his revenge Karen ends a 4 match loosing streak to Medi The Greek Gods revival in form And a much needed solid win for Rune (honestly something clicked for him at the end of the 3rd set for him) Fantastic matches

That Rune-Dimitrov match is explosive.
Been saying for years they need automatic line calling on clay it would get rid of all these questionable ball mark controversies
It's unreliable on clay, but it would be nice to have the "real bounce" one at the umpire's disposal. Instead of checking the mark.
