It's what you've competed under your whole career, and it would be a capstone of your gymnastics career if you had a skill that celebrated your name. And please consider keeping your name and passing it along to your kids, especially daughters. You're a strong, powerful, empowered woman who has broken boundaries for women in sports. Think how empowering it would be for your daughters to have your name, and to know that they don't have to give it up and be defined by a man's name when they marry.
It should be the Skinner. You are known in the gymnastics world as Mykayla Skinner and you have built a career based on that name. Don't give up your name.
If you get a skill named, it HAS to be The Skinner. This is YOUR gymnastics career, not your husband's. He didn't put in the years of work for it. Your kids and life beyond... sure, Harmer. It isn't fair for the athletes who have been training for the 2020 olympics "Quad" to now have athletes who were going to the 2024 "Quad"... It still is the 2020 Olympics.
the more important discussion than whether it's fair is whether it's safe - gymnasts who were training to peak four years from now should be at a very different place in their careers than ones who were training to peak a month ago, and a year is not enough time to safely make that difference up. However it does seem to mean some really big rising stars for China and Russia will suddenly be eligible, so if they can stay healthy, we might actually have a horse race here instead of the US being 12 points ahead even when they fall three times. As a fan, that would be nice.
100% support your mindset about being an alternate. I definitely think the importance of “opportunity” is a great revelation for you :) I think if you didn’t go, you would always feel like “I should’ve done that”, whether an alternate goes in or not!

I think if you were chosen as alternate, you should take it! Stevil Penniless is gone, and you owe it to yourself to own that achievement, even if it isn't being named to the Olympic team. You've worked so hard! Plus, like you said, you never know if something were to happen and an alternate would be needed! But it's obviously up to you and what you think is best

A good two hand block should be giving you enough of a power/height advantage over the way you used to do the vault that you have enough time to get that in without twisting on the table
I really like her first half bar routine construction on her instagram post. If she does a ray into a pak or full twisting pak then a van leewen and a then it’ll be easier to do the triple double at the end without having to connect it from a full pirouette.

You don’t change your name on your marriage license...it has your maiden name. You choose whether or not to change your name after you have filed your marriage certificate and go to the social security office to change it.

I did half a twist more than the Biles on vault blocking off of one arm. Now that I block off two arms it's harder to twist but I'm working my way back to it!

Siona I know why fig doesn’t like it, I’m saying I hate that people give Mykayla crap for it when it’s actually impressive. Also this is just my opinion but fig really shouldn’t penalize things for fear of getting hurt, like I get where there coming from ( and some skills really are dangerous) but if athletes prove over and over they can do something consistent they shouldn’t be held back. As an individual you need to be able to tell yourself when a skill is too much so that they don’t harm themselves in the first place. Obviously safety should be first tho, I don’t want it to sound like I’m advocating for being unsafe in the gym. Sorry this is so long lol

Being an alternate for 2 consecutive Olympics could be frustrating because of how hard you've been working to get onto the team so you can compete, but maybe God's plan is for you to be there for support and comfort. Nobody can take all of your hard work away from you, and maybe going as in alternate with the mindset of being able to help the women on the team and having another opportunity to experience the Olympics would be better. No matter what, you're an incredible woman, wife, and gymnast, and every minute of dedication you're giving is not lost.

As an individual you need to be able to tell yourself when a skill is too much so that they don’t harm themselves in the first place. Obviously safety should be first tho, I don’t want it to sound like I’m advocating for being unsafe in the gym. Sorry this is so long lol

Being an alternate for 2 consecutive Olympics could be frustrating because of how hard you've been working to get onto the team so you can compete, but maybe God's plan is for you to be there for support and comfort. Nobody can take all of your hard work away from you, and maybe going as in alternate with the mindset of being able to help the women on the team and having another opportunity to experience the Olympics would be better. No matter what, you're an incredible woman, wife, and gymnast, and every minute of dedication you're giving is not lost.
