I agree with the general comment on over coaching. Its why i don't enjoy watching City that much. Brilliant team, coach etc but far too constrained and controlled. And although I appreciate Pep as a coach I think over time because he has been so successful with such great players he could do nothing but continue to refine his game plan. So well in my opinion its minimised spontaneity in his players = boring sadly for me. That being said the natural reaction to yhar kind of control is spontaneity and creativity...and I am convinced we will see more if it in individual players and team play.
As for Duran, our very own Cptn Chaos, I believe to survive and not burn out he has to mature his game and understand he doesn't have to be a lone wolf out there, that being part of a pack (sorry couldn't resist the Duran wolf puns) doesn't diminish him nor constrain him.
Emery will definitely help his game BUT having watched Duran now in many situations I believe Duran will always retain that intense focus on goal, confident in his abilities and as with all good strikers will remain selfish. And that's ok with me as the best ones are.

The days of the free number 10 are well and truely over. Its like players playing percentage points in tennis, what they call "winning tennis" over "street tennis". The latter is exciting, unpredictable, shows a different character. The former is robotic and boring.
All managers are now neutering free roaming players that can change a game on their own for a analytics based winning formula.
Its totally boring. It's like watching Germany play, everyone has become the Borg on Star Trek.
No individualism, play as one body, that has a higher success percentage.
How many wingers are you seeing cross the ball in the box? Numbers have dropped off a cliff as the analytics say it is has a lower percentage of success.
Just like long balls from the goalee (which i agree most times is stupid as it's doomed to failure).
Being back Maradonna, Gazza and prime Grealish.
It's sad to see Grealish neutered.

    • @ciarandavis1651
      @ciarandavis1651 18 часов назад +3

Yes totally agree. You see it with Grealish, yes he's won more trophies, but basically just a target man, holds the ball, passes it then releases. Be great to see him for another club where he has freedom.

It's so good to see a player just use his instincts. It may not always work and sometimes they make a bad choice, but so what. Do we want people or robots? I used to be very system orientated. Then I watched the 1974 World Cup Final on VHS. I knew the Dutch had a reputation for total football, but the Germans, despite their man marking in defence, were just as fluid in attack. It was a real eye opener. It was such a good watch. Then teams like Brazil '82 France '84 carried that on. Even the more regimented leagues, like Italy, still found a way of letting some players improvise. But now its like any thought process is drilled out of them. Even the long ball tendency of English clubs in the '80 is preferable to what we get now. At least there was goalmouth action

Its going to take its toll on the cohesion of the team if he gets away with it TBH. That type of thing is virus that spreads and destroys a team. You can't have him kicking Bogards seat and flinging his rubbish at the kid. Bogarde could easily have took a stud on the head. Barkley did that under Smith and he was quickly disposed of.

Excellent video....but...he does look over his shoulder before the Bayern goal. You need the behind the goal camera to see it because he does it so early. This, imo, is what makes the goal so special, and links him to players like Jimmy Greaves. Glen Hoddle spoke about watching Greaves play 5 aside, every two seconds or so he'd look towards the goal, so he'd know instantly the best way to score if the ball came to him.

To add a little more context. Emery discussed with the team just prior to the game to be aware of Neur being off his line. In Duran's post game interview he said he glanced as you mentioned but to see how close the defender was to him as he had a mind to chip or score (no doubt he could see goal and Neur in his peripheral vision). Most poweful striker of a ball since Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink Generates such power with so little backlift
A real spanner in the works for the FFP clique protection racket as well which Is designed to stop a club ESTABLISHING themselves in the top 4 as they are forced to sell the players who got them there straight away
Duran coming out of nowhere and becoming Europes hottest striking prospect at only 20 is win win for Villa andFFP nightmare for clique as they never saw this coming , they thought they had Villa by the balls with them being forced to sell their best midfielder last season and restricted in the transfer maket compared to their new CL rivals
Instead Villa , with the big European boys circling Duran have effectively been handed another Jack Grealish size transfer profit out of nowhere if they wish which will set them up for couple more seasons of not being under pressure to sell any of their big names and therefore a much better chance of establishing themselves

And the thing is, it’s consistent, not a fluke. Villa have levelled up in every aspect and now have a seriously competitive squad alongside an elite striker. Emery has total control over the playing side of the club, at it has transformed a relegation threatened side. There is no sign that the owners wish to change this model. So long as these incentives are aligned, Emery will stay (as evidenced by him signing a new contract). With Emery, Villa are likely to remain a top 5 side for the forseeable future (top 5 most years = champions league). But yes, for Villa to go beyond 4/5th consistently, it would require a financial transformation which will take at least 4 or 5 years given the current incoherence of financial rules in the Premier League and Europe (villa can't spend like other clubs despite have little to no debt).

Duran's future use as a player is my issue with modern European coaching and the game in general.
Some persons are puritans in their craft and talent, they need to be better at what they do best not what they should be (being best at everything) as dictated by trends.
I'm not against the modern trend, I mean the number 10 has been so much decentralized that All 11 players are now number 10s; that is really brilliant.
But it doesn't give room for that pure 10 or 9 and it's quite unfair to their usefulness, it's why people expect Halaand to add more to his game, whereas he's fine just the way he his.
Coaches should be able to take that risk and prioritize the individuality of a (an exceptional) talent and help them transition in an ever evolving game.
Many managers or scout will miss out on the reincarnation of Oliver Kahn, because he can't pass like Ederson; how about maximizing his throwing abilities that way it's foolish pressing him and it's less pressure on your defense.
There's always merit & demerit to talent, but you can't coach every individual the same.
Duran should work on his link up play though.

One of the reasons why Duran might already be at the best place for him. Emery is great at building systems to suit the qualities of the players at his disposal. Morgan Rogers is a case in point. His strength and ball control means he is brilliant at turning players and driving forwards and that is exactly what Emery is telling him to do. Contrast with grealish at city, who became a much less dynamic player to adapt to peps system. Emery will bring the best out of Jhon if he has the patience to let him.

@@nottopcat5956 Emery can coach him according to his skills, that's not in doubt.
I just don't believe he has won his trust yet, the quicker Duran wins that, the less likely Emery won't experiment with him and build a system where he slots in perfectly.

See-that IS how you spell Jhon. Grammar and pronunciation vary between countries and cultures.

A striker who actually shoots and the world goes mental glazing him. Footballs so washed.

Is Jhon Duran better than Mario Ballotelli?
