Hell yeah, I got to see them when they headlined X-Fest in my small town back in 97 or 98. They put on an awesome show. I was already a fan but seeing them live made me a bigger fan.
I love this band my fav by far. This whole album is classic. Even though it rips my heart out. Even after all these yrs. Im so sorry W.W.T. i wish i would have taken that chance. Maybe some day ..... again. Ill never forget. Every moment etched in my mind and heart. I hope you find and read this. LM
I was in art school in Seattle in the early 90s.. Pearl jam freak but nothing is beyond candlebox and Andy woods voice.. how in the hell did I not know you wrote this song for him and I'm going to be 54 next year.. The world is a dumpster fire and I so desperately miss the '90s.. I had no idea what a blissful number of years I got to be in my youth before Hell on Earth began... Love you guys You made the '90s amazing!!
We need a whole video of Candlebox doing Cloe Dancer, we demand it, as the fans. We humbly as this of you. We love you. From all the love in our hearts.
Separated from my first love a while before this song came out. We'd been together throughout highschool, I moved to Woodinville WA from New England and she went to Ithica. We came back together the following summer, both working at a vegetable farm stand back home. It was probably the best summer of my life. But I headed to college that fall and her back out to explore the world and that was it. Haven't seen her since. But when this song came out, it represented our love and the fact we'd never enjoy it together again. I've yelled/ screamed, spoke and whispered these lyrics hundreds of times to myself and it still gets the blood pumping and comforts me
I was so lucky to see them at the troc in Philadelphia. It was a last minute decision and WOW, they rocked that place. I will never forget that night. Such a great underated band. Thanks for the video. Brought back so many memories from the 90s………..
OMGOsh he sounds just like Andy!!! 😭😇😍 so beautiful...........I grew up out there too with these guys! I graduated in 1984, such a great time for all the underground Seattle bands, I really miss that Era
LOVE KEVIN & CANDLEBOX another great 90's band out of Seattle ❤ What a Awesome tribute to Landrew the Love Child ❤🌹 Still listening Andrew to your Stellar Music NEVER TO BE FORGOTTEN ❤🌹
I had seen MLB in kent WA it was a small venue in 1989 a great night i won't forget. I high fived Andy as he had went off stage. 😢 I'm 20 minutes from that venue still and getting old 58. I've seen a lot of great bands. candlebox was one Metallica hell as a younger kid i even seen BOC = blue oyster cult. What a great time to be alive. Not a worry to be had.
I totally understand! The saddest part about the Seattle area sound & music scene is the amount of music that could have been. Tears falling here too, so much lost & if you loved it & lived that music it hurts like hell. Heaven must have needed original voices, but we were definitely left very ”Far Behind”! Every single one who left us way too soon left a unique void in our hearts that can't be explained or forgotten. It's still hard for me to talk about, but I miss them all & I didn't even know them. They touched my heart & soul in special ways & will carry them with me until I'm gone! Try to pass on that love & passion to your kids, nieces and nephews etc, I think it is very important to teach the next generations why these guys meant so much to so many!
Thank you for sharing that sad memory of your friend Andrew Wood with everyone you did not have to I thank you for doing that, and I say Sad memory because he's not there singing with you0
Some people don't even know Far Behind was written about Andy. Wow.....................it's been 30 years now. EDITED: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Far_Behind
In a huge candlebox fan and I didn't know this....it makes sense that such a great vocal talent would find his way into the company of wonderful singers, especially having Susan silver as managment.
I'm sure someone has paid respects to Mr. Wood in this manor before, but it's about fucking time i got to see a band do it.was not expecting to stumble on this find at 3:30 A.M
Around this time I got the opportunity to meet Kevin after a show in Salt Lake City. As a huge Pearl Jam fan I knew all the history. And I knew Kevin's history, too. Somehow we got to have a one on one and I told him he really needed to cover Crown of Thorns. He said never. He asserted that "shit was sacred and he wasn't touching it." I told him the best way he could honor Andy was to cover the song and that his voice by far exceeds Eddie's for the tone passion of this song. I hope I got him thinking. He deserves to cover this song far more than Eddie ever did. Candlebox is alive and well today and as a huge Pearl Jam freak for decades, Kevin is simply a better artist.
What a moronic post. Plus, PJ didn't cover this until 2000 when Ed's voice was a mere shell of the '92 version. "deserves", my God just so dumb. If Kevin was the better "artist" he would be remembered as such unfortunately he isn't which is why he's barely remembered at all.
For all out there go get into the sun. Its a classic by Candlebox and it is just great. Not many people know about it and it is overlooked but it is just great top to bottom. Your welcome.
There are some bands and artists who deserve some of the jabs and criticism they receive. Candlebox is not one of them, IMO. Terrific band with some terrific songs that stand the test of time. I’m not even some big fan. I don’t know any of their names. I don’t know the names of their albums. I just know good songs and real talent when I hear them.
"Are there any drunks in the audience tonight? Please shut the fuck up while I'm telling a very heartfelt story" said the awkward pause before beginning "Far Behind"
I'd love to hear him perform this with the original lyric, changing "maybe" to "Andy". Saw them when they were touring in support of their debut album (Flaming Lips opened for them). I wasn't really impressed by Kevin's stage banter at the time (constant f bombs and overt sexual comments), but they were a solid tight act. Looking back I can appreciate that he was just being an excited young man living his dream and figuring out how to be cool on a national stage. I've revised my personal opinion of him, he's a class act.
Wow😮 he really somewhat sounds like Andy! Got to see these guy live in 96. It was originally supposed to be Alice in Chains opening for Metallica. When Layne couldn't continue AiC bowed out and Candlebox took their place. I only was going to see AiC not Metallica. I was bummed needless to say, but these guys made me a fan after that show. They were/are one of the few bands that were/are great if not better live than recorded.
I got to see Candlebox somewhere in Mempkis,TN Very small venue in a park in the evening. About, uh, '98,'97 LOVED IT❤❤❤ is there any footage anywhere????
@Thought Police No sorry my friend it was actually written for Andy "I wrote 'Far Behind' for Andy Wood. I was a huge Malfunkshun fan and a huge Mother Love Bone fan and I got to know Andy early on in his career when I was working in a shoe store with Susan Silver who was managing Mother Love Bone, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains."
Are you serious? No offense to Candlebox, I enjoy this song "Far Behind" by them, but there were literally at least 4 other bands from the Seattle region alone who immediately picked things up and improved upon what Mother Love Bone started, those bands being of course, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden (who were definitely the 2 best grunge bands and, honestly, two of the best bands to come out in the last 35-40 years, and they undoubtedly featured the two greatest rock singers/vocalists since the 1970s in Layne Staley and Chris Cornell. Oh, and not to mention several years before Candlebox's belated farewell to Wood, some of Woods former bandmates formed a tribute band named Temple of the Dog, of course, which also featured Chris Cornell on vocals and guitar, and Eddie Vedder on backup vocals for a song or two, and there were at least 2, if not more tribute songs to Wood on that album. Plus the classic AIC song Would? was of course in honor of Andrew Wood. And yeah, all that happened long before Candlebox came out with Far Behind which was a good song, but grunge exploded after the death of Wood, and it had nothing to do with that or Candlebox, but rather, because of Temple of the Dog, AIC, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and eventually even Stone Temple Pilots delivering a solid grunge sound.
I wish he would do his own take on this song. Seriously, I bet it would be PHEMONAL to enouncate the words like he does....love the way he sings "bettaer " hope sometimes he does it live on a regular basis. I adore hearing peoples take on this song, the first parts are just gorgeous
If Andy would've lived and Mother Love Bone continued, two things are very true. Nirvana wouldn't have been a tenth as big as they became. Eddie Vedder's pretentious and self-centered ass would've stayed in San Diego where he belonged. I would gladly give back the entire Pearl Jam catalog (which started to suck after VS) to have more Mother Love Bone albums.
Mostly agree on all counts except the best PJ album in my opinion is Yield. After that, they all sucked. Yield was the album where the band finally had enough of Vedder’s shit attitude and it became a team effort. MLB would’ve changed the trajectory, for sure. 😢
Great! My wife died Nov 1 2021 She loved Candlebox. I do as well. Thank you for making Her last days enjoyable!
Sorry for your loss.. glad you and her got to enjoy this then ❤
Sorry for your loss bro she's waiting for you on the side my prayers go out to you
Candlebox was so incredibly underrated and under appreciated throughout the 90's. Such a good fuckin band.
Amen
Hell yeah, I got to see them when they headlined X-Fest in my small town back in 97 or 98. They put on an awesome show. I was already a fan but seeing them live made me a bigger fan.
Candlebox... One of my favorite all-time bands... Always love this song by mother Love Bone 👍

I love Candlebox and I love Andy and I love Mother Love Bone and I also love Eddie. Whew, his voice is giving me chills.
Love that song, this is definitely the best cover in YT. Kevin sounded just like Andy💗💗

I’m beyond jazzed!!!❤️
love to you guys
Mother Lovebone changed the course of music and made history. I still miss Andy but I know he's at peace.
Love candlebox!!!
He does sound like Andy, but I was hoping to hear him do it in his own voice. KM is an amazing vocalist in his own right.
How am I just seeing this ? I love Pearl Jam’s version but I think I like this one better! He’s definitely channeling Andy ❤️
Before reading the comments, I thought to myself, "Wow! He sounds like Andy!" I see I'm not alone...lol
Fair winds and following seas Andy!! MLB
This made me smile

One of the most underappreciated Grunge ballads of its day.

Definitely not Matchbox!
Definitely not crown of thorns. Just Chloe dancer.
People don't know who Andy Wood Mother Love Bone is don't deserve to listen to Candlebox. Nirvana ruined the whole grunge scene too.
