Hi. Enjoyed this very much. Our family moved to Cliffe 1964 and left 1982. The marshes were our playground when we were growing up.There used to be a proper motorcycle Trials track down the marshes but it was closed down by the RSPB Who now own most of the land. The buildings that you mentioned on your walk from the marshes to High Halstow were buildings used for making explosives during the war. There were at one time five pubs in the village, the only one left is the Six Bells that’s the pub were the bus was parked up. We lived at 136 Church St.On your walk to High Halstow you would of passed the village called Cooling. If you drove from Cliffe to High Halstow you would of driven through it. Cooling has a famous resident living in the castle,Jools Holland.
The pub is called the ship and lobster and it’s located at Denton wharf that’s owned by the pla who control the river Thames from the deep sea to London and the red lighthouse was the old shorne mead light that was replaced by a modern light that is by shorne mead light
Very useful post. We are moving out of London right between cliffs and Gravesend to be closer to the countryside and enjoy long walks like you are on 😀
Late to the party but nice vid man, I've been meaning to walk it myself. I grew up playing the other side of the river so it's interesting and I appreciate the level of detail here, helps with plans RE taking the dog, photo opportunities and such. Cheers!
Wow, that's very interesting 😮 I had no idea when I was there, thanks for the information about it! They'll have to add an information board there at some point!
Hi Sydney just wanted to say I’ve been lovely your walks , in this walk you walked pass my grandads house I caught a glimpse of the end of it in cliffe , thanks for in great videos
Yes cliffe is a lovely village and so much history I live in Southampton but visited my grandad a couple of times a year , it was great seeing you walk pass his old house , I also like to say I learned loads more about cliffe and the surrounding area whilst watching all your videos , I think I’m up to date now with them , well maybe one or few left
The houses pre-date the current spread industrial of industrial buildings. You'll get that a fair bit on the estuary and as far as into London. Probably Lightman's cottages.
Try the culdrum stones near trottisclffe but use the back roads via luddesdowne, Cobham etc,it's a long walk but nice views down to the south downs on a clear day.
Hello there, Yes I did! Glad you saw my video 😁 I was looking for your group online but couldn't find it, I shall look it up again now Was nice chatting to Tony that day and hearing about those tunnels, sounds exciting 😮😄
Who is this nub? I'll walk and talk about an area i have no idea about! Those 3 houses on their own. Right next to port authority. That pub, where you would have seen the Whale (Benny was it?)That pub(Ship and Lobster if it hasn't changed) named a beer after it(i know. Pathetic). Then that metal structure is a conveyor for (i believe CLUB),the sand and cement people,to unload ships. meh...Why you bothering at all?
