4 years later and his loss still stings. His music is just as beautiful as ever though. I'll never stop sharing it; it's so beautiful. No studio here just pure music. And when he did more electric music that sincerity carried over. You're an unsung hero, Erik. Rest easy, sir.
at a barn show in PA back in 2006 with Erik and Pat the bunny our van got stuck in the mud. I must have been 15 at the time, Erik came outside and helped us push it out and got himself covered in mud, went back in and played his set. Wish you were here
What a fantastic songwriter and singer. It's because of artists like him that myself and many others are still around. I hope you and yours are doing well.
This song literally gets me through everyday my daughter's mom walked away from us. My daughter is my paddle in this poison river rest easy erik you were and will always be an inspiration
The last memory I had of Erik, my wife and I bought him a shot at a show in Orlando. What an amazing human being. We were fortunate enough to meet him several times and his humility was nothing short of amazing. Rest in peace Erik. May your songs never get stuck out of my head.
This is such a beautiful song. The lyrics truly reflect what a real community punk is. It's a folk song for our international community of misfits and travelers. It is OUR song. And I don't think anyone outside of our subculture can truly appreciate how honest a reflection it is. For all my homies: I love you. Keep holding on. Thank you Eric. RIP hesh paul RIP corinne cuyler
yesterday I missed the greyhound going from Edmonton to Calgary. I had to sleep in a shelter for the night, and met a guy that looked and dressed just like Erik Petersen. he also missed the bus and had to sleep in the shelter. after conversing for about half hour, he hooked me up with a couple opioid pills. this song reminds me of that guy.
Sharing is caring. N I do love opioids but sadly they love me more. To much. Can't fuck with that anymore. Addiction can suck my dick, it sucks. Neway.. Be careful man. That shit is no joke. U gotta have some major cahjones to fuck with that shit n survive or survive unscathed.
bacchanal i went to pix fest to see ramshackles last show like the erik passed and the whole weekend was like a giant wake for erik! it was magical but also very sad! but im sure erik wouldve approved!
This song got me through the toughest of times! No matter how hard life has been I’ve always had an out! Music is the only thing that’s kept me going, when I felt like I couldn’t go on… thank you wherever you are!
whenever summer rolls around this is what we play in boise. i wish all us kids could see brew together. instead of separate all over. i never even saw him but i cant die till i do. thank you eric your the man
I’m going through it. I’m a few days clean, back home for the holidays. And we used to rock Mischief Brew in high school and it’s just so sad to see what happened to me and all the people I grew up with. Fuck man, life is a trip.

Oh my god the instrumentation... It's beautiful. Like, if this was all instrumental it'd be just as amazing. Love folk music; so honest, so real, so much feel... I just can't gush enough to express all of the feelings this kind of music gives me. I remember when I discovered folk punk, it was inspiring. I still love metal, the classic punk, progressive rock, but I found an honesty in this music that I don't see elsewhere. I bought an acoustic guitar that day, and that's where most of my creative energy goes now. Thanks Mischief Brew; you guys were the ones who showed me this music.
Feather E. Love them! Looking back on this comment makes me deeply sad. I couldn't possibly know that a few short months later the man who inspired me to make my own music would take his life. I honestly haven't revisited Mischief Brew until now because it just kinda hurt. But yeah, Days N Daze was a band I actually spread around my groups haha. Misanthropic Drunken Loner is my bad day song... If I'm having a bad day I just blast it and I feel better haha. (by the way this is the guy who posted the comment. Pretty sure I switched channels, I'm not a hundred percent sure).
saw this great group as one of a few opening acts for Leftover crack one great summer about 10 yrs ago now, i think? throw rag also played early that evening- and i think The World/Inferno Friendship Society was supposed to play as well but couldn't make it due to emergency. i remember mischief brew playing outside the auditorium after LC played, outside in the middle of the park, and they seemed as if they could play til shut down...may have for all i know! we had to leave but it was pretty late still. here's to all of those friends from that time in my life from chicago.... wherever you all are now. Good times.... they'll stick.
+Nick L. I remember that show. Logan square auditorium. cant believe its been that long ago. And world inferno couldn't make it because their lead singer; he had been stabbed accidentally the night before while jousting drunkenly with stza.
+imahavenot yep, that's the one. Just a great show... and yeah, isn't it nuts to think just how long it has been? i remember it like yesterday. heard a new cut off the upcoming (or recent?) LoC album, and i dug it, but these shows man... They were just a blast. This time-period was fun to be a LoC fan. they played a lot of Choking Victim covers that night if i recall. and some other fun ones I hadn't heard live too often by that lineup (i think infested, and some other oldies...). i'm not sure if there was more time to spare b/c of the World Inferno thing or if it was just a long show, but it was fucking great. I remember someone pulling a piece of string cheese out of a shoe or something.... i don't know, a lot is hard to remember, but some is vivid and clear as day. Those shows were something else... can't believe it has been 10+ yrs now! and weren't they bike jousting to boot or something? hahaha. Fun times. man. i'd love to see some video or hear audio from that show... if only. LSA was pretty interesting and had some fun acts around that time too...
I was at this show too. I had never even heard of Mischief Brew before that night and have been a huge fan ever since. Erik's music will forever be tied to some of the best and worst times of my life and I will never forget him for that. I actually danced with my wife to Oh Sweet Misery at our wedding last month. It breaks my heart that the world lost such an amazing songwriter and musician.
Yep.... another real good one. That night was magical for so many reasons. If Dan or Abby are out there and see this one day... I miss some of you fuckers....! RIP Erik.... way too soon....

P.S. I love mischief brew. maybe too much.
Their record company's website shut down a while ago, but the best place to buy their cd's or records is at interpunk(dot)com
Yeah he's really talented. His stuff is actually pretty tough to play (while singing). Something about his rhythm I reckon.
@apocalypse113 Bwahahahahah! Now THAT'S Pirating!
anyone know that chord he's playing from 1:26 to 1:27
It's a barred Cm, but on the 7th fret because of the capo on 4
that would be Bm or Cbm, Cm would be 8 unless of course you/he has guitar tuned down
It's a B7 not a "Cm"
Your son makes very good music. It has gotten me through some rough times. Including right now.
ooh well
Sorry about the lateness, someone spammed your comment and I didn't see it :/
Chords? Anyone got em?
