Excellent reaction. A Taste of Honey was also made into a film in 1961. Johnny Marr's genius guitar work and Andy Rourke's bass really makes this song. Great to have The Smiths back on the channel again.
The guitar and bass is just unreal in this song! Nothing very fancy or overly technical but just so incredibly well put together. The song has such a flow and smoothness to it.
When you live in Lancashire, England (Manchester [aka 'the rainy city'], Liverpool, Preston [the actual 'official' wettest city in England], Salford, Lancaster etc), you never leave a rainy city.
Until we realised it wasn't really the news at all, and had very little to do with the world. 'Extramarital affairs of semi-famous and fading fast celebrities and football players, mostly based in Britain; still with a page 3 girl' would probably have been a more accurate title. But I heard the printers had a dispute about that one.
A unique Smiths song, deep rooted in rainy miserable Manchester. Morrissey and Marr in perfect harmony. Not a song I listen to much, but it is beautiful.
The track ‘back to the old house’ off Hatful of Hollow showcases Jonny Marr guitar skills… do you know what? If some smith’s songs were sung in Spanish, you’d swear they’re a Mexican band!
I loved your Modest mouse reactions. You should check out Life like weeds. I discovered Modest when I was in a dark place in my life. Life like weeds helped me through it and I owe my life to Modest mouse for that.
The essence of the smiths. Honest, melancholy, jangly guitar. They caught the Zeitgeist of the time
Greatest song ever written by the greatest band ever

... and Andy wrote the bass lines contrary to popular belief...
A Taste of Honey is well worth seeing, it's hilarious!!

Song hits different when you enter a rainy city

Thanks Marcos! Probably my favourite Smiths song.
Favorite Smiths song. Good shit.
Thank you!
Thanks again for another great Smiths reaction!! Love from Australia
Great pick. _Louder Than Bombs_ is an essential album & "Night" is a key highlight.
The News of the world was a popular newspaper at one time in the UK.

Probably why they're so big in that part of the world, or so I've heard.
I was the teen at school listening to the Smiths on my walkman with a worn out copy of 'A Taste of Honey' in my pocket 😅
Thank you, Brought me back to '84.
This is my favourite song of theirs sound-wise.
Mine too.
And I'm not happy and I'm not sad
