I spend most of the time working on the barn in the evenings, after my chores on the farm are done for the day, so it's always been a high priority to install good lighting. First I want to install some work lights underneath the loft area. I decide to run all the wire through conduit, since it'll be visible. I'm especially looking forward to getting two lights installed right above my welding table, where I spend most of my time working. After that, I get to work replacing my old metal halide high bay lights with new UFO high bay 200w lights. These new lights really light up the barn at night with a nice white color and eliminate the humming noise that the old lights used to make, which was starting to drive me crazy. All the new lighting really improved the barn as a work space at night time.
The extension ladder gag was awesome! My thoughts: he can’t be serious, dang he’s serious, thank God he wasn’t serious. lol.
My exact thought process as well.
@Danny Santos If he was serious about using this Jerry-rigged extension, The Mom would kill him if the ladder didn't!
The boy got brains.
I thought the EXACT same thing!
"Oh man, he's going to pretend to duct-tape these ladders together. Oh, he's taking this joke pretty far. WTF he's actually CLIMBING that thing?! Oh, got me."

Your videos are so peaceful and I love the quality of your work. You do excellent filming and editing as well. Thank you for putting this out there!
Drake is an excellent companion. He could see that you were doing something 'out of the ordinary' and was concerned... Definitely a keeper!!!
I like what you do and how you do it
Those are really really nice. I am really into metal halides though, I just think they’re pretty cool but they’re pretty inefficient compared to LED in a workplace.
You have some imagination brother God Bless.
So are you renting the barn out for parties?
Anxiety attack when you were clambering up that taped-up ladder, don't scare us like that again :D
Ha! I loved the bit with the taped ladder! "Pretty sure that's why they're called extension ladders." 😂.
Justin, I just swapped out all my shop lights for LED lights and experienced all the benefits you did; brightness, color quality, instant on and sound. They are also not effected by outdoor temperature extremes. The quietness is what really got me. I did not realize how much stress the buzzing created since you habituate yourself to it.
I have loved every one of your videos. Your quiet calmness and humor make me look forward to every new video. Keep up the great work!
Wooooo two videos in a week.
I really want to know why there are so many dislikes on one of the most genuine videos ever.
Looks great man! It's insane how far the barn has come since I was out there last summer. Can't wait to come visit again at some point!
pro tip : watch series on kaldrostream. Me and my gf have been using them for watching all kinds of movies lately.
@Kristopher Grady Definitely, I have been watching on Kaldrostream for months myself :D
I have to admit I was against the government phasing out the old incandescent bulbs, effectively telling me what I had to buy, but now that the price of LEDs is dropping like a rock, I can really appreciate the quality of the light they produce and the reduced cost to use them. I worked with fluorescent lights, which also have a distinct buzz in an office setting for years and only noticed how bad it was when we would occasionally lose power. I'm so glad to be out of that environment and can definitely relate to those metal halide lights you tossed. Thanks, Man!!
It's not code in any states that I am aware of to put insulated solid romex wire into conduit or into Flexible conduit. The wires can be affected by the heat contained inside the conduits. You need to use stranded or solid individual wire.
Article 334.15. It has changed a little over the years. Some is acceptable, some is questionable.
Extension ladder could've worked, just should've added more duck tape :D
Some folks were thinking the greenish light was affecting your brain, but there is at least one other of your videos where you made a similar sight gag. Yep, that humming is way irksome but - unlike tinnitus - you had a fairly simple, albeit height scary, fix - keep wearing the hearing protection and give your ears their peace. Maybe buy a nice quiet pipecutter for future work with conduit en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pipecutter Another good one for the collection.
Those new high bay lights make a huge difference. Good call on the swap-out.
I hate industrial lighting buzz. I'd have swapped them too. LED ftw!
FYI, the safety cable should not be attached to the same point as the fixture. I'm not berating just informing.
So you've had them for over 4 years now. I just ordered eight for my 40x60 pole barn. How are they holding up for you after all this time? Am i going to regret this purchase? Thanks for sharing. Looks great.
I hate any bulbs that take time to come to full glow AND any fixture that's buzz'n & hum'n. I've replaced every bulb in my home, basement, and garage. LED bulbs are brighter and cost less to operate because they operate on much lower wattage, have a higher lumen output without ANY GREEN tint to their light. I thank God those problems are solved!
Beautiful shop and great video. If you “thumbs down” this video just stop watching RUclips shop videos. There is nothing that will please you.
Super cool video! Our company also wants to shoot such a video. Would you like to be our company's publicity ambassador? Our company is willing to pay for it.
Dunno why you wasted you money on conduit, Is not strapped properly, you ran romex trough it and you didn’t bonded the boxes... why is this on my feed...at least they work trough
It looks a lot better. LED technology has changed lot. Now it is a lot cheaper and they have a a lot better light than before. The CRI of those is over 80, that's good.
Just a heads up #RainfallProjects, your Instagram link isn't working. Maybe you don't use it anymore, this video is old.
that ladder jury rigging would have made a great youtube "fail"...be careful....looking good
Super cool video! I have a UFO led high bay lights. Can u pls help me take a video?if ok, I will pay for you.
Just found Rainfall Projects. Nice barn ! You do very good work, nice attention to detail.
You did the amazon add sorry no trust from your no disclosure, it has been said these light are not as bright as competition...
LED bulb wattages are always a bit confusing because we're so used to how inefficient incandescent bulbs are. Gotta look at the lumens instead!
I'm not dissing you. I'm coment in on how far we have come in 100 years since the good ol days of fire.
If you use that ladder system you want to make sure you use Gorilla duct tape, its rated for that kind of stuff
Glad you didn't get hurt that was the Jankeiest Ladder "hack" i've ever seen.
Imagine if you told any man from any culture 100years-10,000years ago. I have a huge workshop it has lights that are very bright. All I have to do to turn them on is flick a switch with my finger..... but the lights have a very slight green tint to them & they also make a very slight buzzing sound you can barely hear if it's dead quite, so I'm going to spend a ton of $ & replace them with a better light that doesn't have the tiny buzz & tiny amount of green tint. I would imagine the man would think you where spoil rotten & completely insane.
Thats how humanity is in our days. If it offers a slight advantage we go for it. Take for expample people buying $1200 phones every year
Nice choice of lights. You will undoubtedly be told not to run Romex in conduit. Next time save some $ and use individual conductors. Easier to pull as well.
Rainfall Projects yup it's against code.
I've been told that the wires could get too hot inside conduit if you're running Romex. I highly doubt it'll happen in this situation because you're running LED bulbs on that circuit though.
Its legal but you have to maks sure you piping is sized correctly
I am a Journeyman electrican
I've been watching your barn video's. I never notice cob webs. Do you have Merry Maids come in weekly to sweep the roof and walls?
Those UFO LED lights at Amazon.ca are $352.77 each but they are $141.99 each at Amazon.com
Now you know why Amazon.ca sucks.
You can buy grandlumen high bay on Amazon.ca with good price now.
I have an 8 foot ceiling one car garage . Would one of these work or is it too much or put off too much heat? thanks
If you go to your local supplier inside the box there is a spec chart in the light box with all the info needed. I personally would install a Led striplight seeing your ceiling is only 8 feet and is more economical.
You need to rent the second floor out to a barista on the weekend.
Zip ties would have been fine for the ladder extension.
LMAO... You had me going when you started duck taping that extension ladder to the step ladder. I was like, "WTF is he doing..." "He can't be serious" "No, dude, that's going to break...lol" Then it hit me... Nice troll man.... Nice troll... Well, played good Sir.
FYI: The lights look amazing.
Nice video about installing LED, very enlightening! 👍 😁
What are the dimensions of your barn?
yet another great video. I love how Drake looks out for you.
LED lighting still amazes me as to how bright they are for so little electricity. At only 200 watts, those ones you installed look way brighter then the other ones you removed.
how should i contact you,friend
This is why women live longer. LOL
Did I miss the video on the cross-chandelier????
Great video, as always, you're an inspiration.
Rainfall Projects, I just went through all of your videos to make sure I didn’t miss that one. Can’t wait to watch.
I was paid to dislike your video sorry
Holy crap duck tape had me scared!
You had me going with the ladder. I've seen and done lots of dumb things on site but that was really bad.
I thought you really had to tape the ladder up lol
Drake needs a girlfriend!!!!
you're being dislike botted
Beautiful barn/shop.
Love your barn and dog..👍
Haha 3:37 Drakes favorite tool in your toolbelt!
So many code violations
Dude you're nuts even going to the top of the A frame ladder! 🤣
Red Green would be proud.
I have created Mega Ladder
I noticed you like Edison bulbs. I had a lot of them in my house and recently changed them out with led Edison bulbs. Same k rating, dimmable, and they get brighter than the regular Edison bulbs. Plus my power bill went way down. Those old bulbs you could feel the heat coming off of them. Good show man. I watch your videos before I go outside and work on my shop. I'll try to record my shop build.
Had me going for a bit on the extension ladder.
Beautifully done. Thanks for uploading.
SUPER NICE!
I usually convert the MH luminaries to LED using Satco or Keystone retrofit lamps bypassing the ballast of course.
That ladder tho
Duct tape is awesome.
I wish I knew more about electricity to do this.
that is a sweet ass barn
you don't need a 3 wire btw. in those situations you can use the white wire as what is called a switch leg, just mark it with black tape in the box. or just google wire schematics(white wire as switch leg) also if you are using conduit no need to use romex. Great looking barn, just found your channel, nice video had me with the extension ladder bit too.
such awesome videos
Nice👍👏😊
Early in the video I thought what was that humming, then you got around to replacing them lights and the difference is astonishing, both in quality of light and the massive noise reduction
Romex inside of conduit??
Jeffory Newkirk Article 334.15. Some is questionable, some is not. The word necessary is important.
Love it
Super.
Nice video, thanks for taking the time to make it.. If one painted the inside of the barn bright white, it makes a night to day difference and brighten things up. My shop is bright white and bench tops also white and it makes a huge difference as the whole interior acts as a giant light reflector. That does cost extra money though of course for paint or paneling, and you lose the cool rustic wood look but just thought I'd throw that out there in case some people want to maximize lighting efficiency, white interior reflects all the light you already paid for. Perhaps you're going for the cool wood look, so that is fine too, just means it absorbs more light rays that's all...

Maybe you could show something re testing the earth continuity of the metal conduit ? DIY electrical work may be easy, but you must test the metal points to make sure they are at "ground"
Yes
Still patiently waiting to see more about the chandelier...
Also instead of the spacer and running the conduit off the wall look into getting a conduit bender to bend "box offsets" into to pipe to run tight against the wall, cleaner more professional look. Everything looks amazing though, enjoy watching all of your videos.
Great looking shop! I couldn't help but notice when you took video outside of the weather, it looks like you have a couple ash Tree's that have succumb to EAB
How many lights are in this barn?! It'll be more light than barn soon! :)
Was a bit worried about you on that ladder. Awesome results. Best barn I've ever seen.
Dude, you totally got me with that ladder gag. My jaw dropped when you pulled out the step ladder, and then I actually spoke aloud to the screen, "Don't do it!" Nice one... And, as always, love the videos.
MAN I love your stuff!!
trick for swapping high bay lights: use a rope with a weight on the other end to counterweight them so you can't accidentally drop them.
Thanks for the post....next week my up and coming workshop over in Brightwood, OR is having power pulled into it and I too will need to be outfitting it with lights as well. Thanks for the post!!
I can't believe it. Another video after months of silence . Drake is a star! Thanks for sharing.
We used the type of light fixtures for a cozy lounge/bar back in the 1980’s and the LIGHTS LIT UP over the pool table too. ⌛️💡🔦👍👍👍👍
I hope that he connected equipment ground to at least one of the boxes in the conduit runs.
Your commentary is great. You use sarcasm perfectly and I chuckle way too much. Thanks for that. EVERY time I see you've posted a new video I seriously can't wait to watch it.
Good lights are well worth it. That buzzing sound would drive me crazy also. I just swapped out the lights in my shop also. It makes a big difference.
I installed 14 of those in a 50 by 30 Warehouse they're beyond bright and the dimmer function is a pain in the butt to find a dimmer for

All tool belts should have a dog ball launcher hanging on them.good video
You are a real "belt and suspenders" guy to tape up your wire nuts like that! Great video, and the lighting in the barn looks fantastic.
