The time I spent with my camera and the early morning light in Havana, was one of the greatest twenty minutes in my life. The light from the high places and the drama of man with his relationship with the elements of time, place and his own place in all of what shows in my photographs. Bursting with love for what I can do. Just a simple minded old man can make with love something of value for all mankind. Such a good dream for me. The good power of the camera combined combined with a bursting heart.

It's amazing that this thing, photography, can be a profession, hobby, past time, something to do, whatever, and STILL bring about such emotion. I've been trying to make this photograph for some time now; its an old building and when the sun sets behind it, it looks like the inside of the building is on fire. Sunsets don't wait for You! You're frickin there, or you're Not! I missed it for weeks on end. Finally, I get there, early. Set up the tripod. And I still can't get it. What I see won't get in the camera! Jesus, be with me! The battle continues.
    And so it goes...

I am in my darkroom in the garage today. Printing photos I made in Cuba. I am staying home and in my darkroom as I do every day. Nothing much has changed in my daily routine. I am so lucky to have my darkroom and my negatives to use in a positive manner. I am happy in here by my enlarger and the mess of work prints, test strips with the smell of the fixer and all the potential in here and in me and my camera.
