    John Free, for me you are a legend. At 53 you've inspired me to practice, go out and take risks with photography. You guys in this video are truly fortunate to have access to an an experience out in the streets with John.
    Perhaps one day ...

      Hey Chris, I am 77 and cant wait to get down on my knees to photograph my friends children and then present the parents with several 8x10's. Now you have power in your life at 53. Go out everyday and do important work with your camera. Rejoice that you have been given this magic machine,Aladins magic lamp. Hold it close to your heart and let the camera pull you and point you to where the greatness is and the greatness is right next door.

      Hi John, I took your words to heart and photographed of some of the informal traders and their families in the area where I work - the coffee stands, craft sellers, the kids in the streets who will likely never own a printed 8x10 of themselves. One of the men is a migrant worker from Zimbabwe who left his family to earn some money which he sends home to keep them going. He will be taking the photograph home to leave with them when he returns to work here in SA again. When I unexpectedly presented them with the prints the smiles and surprise I saw was something special to experience. So little given for such a warm response. It reminded me of your "Hey Mr Picture Man!" video. Your passion and stories are helping me to see the camera as the magic machine, just as you promised. And the magic was truly right next door.
      Thanks, I hope to one day see you on the streets.

      Hey Chris Thank you for the good news. Great way for me to start my day. Yes, yes, the magic of love, devotion and a camera can move mountains. You make me happy.

      Hooray for you Chris. The camera which is connected to the heart will pull you to find and see wonderful things to collect with the camera and an 8x10 print given away, but will be yours forever. Oh boy here I go again. Robert Frank told us to become detectives when it comes to our photography. How smart are we to know where to go? How clever can we be to find subject? Yes, that is my game and a way for me to go to a great place in myself. To be constantly looking for richness in life to share with the world. To show man to man and each man to himself. Making the best use of my limited time to find greatness in man. The greatness was right next door waiting for you and your camera Chris.

    I have a question John, did you every lost your motivation for photography?
    I'm a 19 year old boy, and I absolutely love photography.
    But I am scared, that one day I might lose my dedication /motivation. Any advice for me, and probably some other viewers? :)

    • @JohnFreePhtography
      @JohnFreePhtography 5 лет назад +8

      Yes. Once a long time ago I stopped for awhile. I cant remember why, but I started up again with more vigor. The camera has led me to wonderful places in my heart. Ever reaching higher and higher in my quest for skill and a better understanding of what is expected of me as a social documentary concerned photographer. The camera gives us power. Good big power. Let your heart determine where you point the lens. Go next door to photograph your friends children. Study the great photographers words and photos. Find other tidbits of knowledge because you are smart but hungry. The greatest pleasures in life can be ours. Every day finds me in my messy darkroom in my garage. Maybe 6 hours per day of great fun in the dark making heart felt photographs that will be here for ten thousand years for other to admire and grow from. You have the power to change lives with your mind and camera. Robert Frank told us we must be detectives when it comes to finding subject. Subject is all around us. Tune up the brain so the brain will know what you want from photography. The brain must be made to understand your intent. Photography might be the most important and rewarding aspect of our lives. Be glad for it. Hold it up to your heart and cry with pleasure knowing that you are climbing the tall ladder to a truer knowledge of what photography can be for a photographer who is in love. Go pick up your camera and fly. So many people you know need good photographs of themselves and also the great photos of life you make with your own unique personal vision. Come with me to that magic place in our souls which can cry out a shout of pure joy knowing what we must do with a camera and a song of love in our hearts.
