if this scene doesn't make you cry, nothing will...what a blessed man he was...he had everyone rooting for him...his old boss at the docks, people in the church, people from the neighborhood, his family of course..
during the great depression, people looked up to James J Braddock as a role model. He gave them a sense of hope during those rough times. The scene with the mother with the baby in her arms, crying, gets me every time. what a fantastic movie
I see it has, when you are trying to help your kids you can do do anything and that's what he did he fought and fought just so his Family could have food on the table
@@TranscendentalMindX problem with depression is that you never know who's telling the truth or not. Always show compassion to people, you never know how close they are
A great movie, very well done I enjoyed it. My only problem with the movie was the portrayal of Baer. Max was far from the glitz and glam arrogant person they made him out to be. He did kill a man in the ring and he stayed in that man's hospital room with him, he sobbed when he died and nearly retired from fighting as a result. Max was a good guy and a good fighter he got a bad rap in this film because hollywood needs a bad guy, it's just a shame.
+Corby Oliver It really is a shame. Ron Howard is a really good filmmaker. I don't understand why he insists on turning fascinating true stories into Hollywood trash, like A Beautiful Mind and this.
+Corby Oliver even in his retirement, his kids would find Max sobbing over the death years later. Hollywood needs villains which are not redeemable, it helps the audience get behind the hero that much more. I totally get what your saying though. Baer in real life was not at all the monster the film would suggest
Also baers family said they weren't included in the way they portrayed him and were very upset with it...baer was nothing like that...he even raised money for the dead boxers family and stopped boxing for some time after it happened
I remember when my grandfather told me, who listened to the fight on the radio, cheered so damn loud upon hearing the word "new", his neighbors joined him. He even cried so many tears of joy at that point.
One of the most beautiful and emotional movie endings I have ever seen on screen. Very underrated film in my opinion. It's almost a crime that Russell Crowe, Renee Zellweger or Ron Howard did not get any love from the Oscars for this movie.
I cry so hard every time I see this scene. I'm a Combat Marine from two wars, and I cry over NOTHING, but this touches me in a place that I NEVER knew I could feel. Thank You Ron Howard!!!
One of the greatest films about boxing; the bulldog of Bergen, the 'Cinderella' Man, the champion who came back from oblivion, insignificance and infamy, into which he had fallen during the Great Depression; what a tremendous, heartbreaking story about willpower, courage and devotion to a greater cause! He fought for his loved ones, he fought for the simple people of New Jersey, plagued by the aftermath of the huge financial and social crisis, he fought for himself, for all the days he worked at the docks, starved to exhaustion and forgotten by everybody, and he triumphed.
@@erk44 Put your faith and trust in the Lord and your ending will never happen. It will be only the beginning. He died for us so that we can life forever. Absolutely. He wasn't fighting for machismo, or even his ego. He fought to buy his children milk in the worst of the Depression. If being faithful to your wife, and swallowing your pride to take care of your family isn't the definition of a real man, I don't know what is.
Braddock was the peoples champion. He went on to help build the Verenzano bridge and owned and operated a company on the same docks he worked on, Rocky was a classic but this is a reality.
That a big reason why the Oscar TV ratings keep dropping every year for a while now. They often pick elitist type films instead of very good movies such as this.
Watching this movie reminds me a-lot of my dad. I remember he struggled with many things and seeing him defeated at times was hard to see as a kid. He never gave up and grabbed life by the neck and showed me one hell of a comeback story. My dad is my Cinderella Man, and I can't not watch this movie, tear up a bit and not think about my old man.
This story is incredible, Russell Crowe played Braddock so well, the relationship he has with Joe and Mae is just moving. One of the greatest underdog tales of all time
Well I never went through the Great depression but I did go through the Great recession and I lose everything and came this close to being out on the streets. And I made my own little Cinderella comeback story and I came back swinging. Working three freakin jobs getting a second education and taking care of my family all so that I can open my own business and get out of poverty. A mission accomplished but by all means it was the equivalent of putting myself through the ringer so that I can give myself a second chance. I think that's why I love this story so my much. It's not easy to give yourself a come back but it can be done.
This is by far one of the most underated movies of all time. Its such a great movie, with such a great story. Its emotional, great people in it & tension, but it also has so much heart.
Last Irish Heavyweight Champion, thus bringing about this fine and commendable conclusion to a century of Irish dominance in the upper weight echelon of that brutal and awesome sport. What a true, fearsome and indomitable Irish warrior that Braddock was!
After watching this movie it inspired me to start training and a few years later I entered my first Muay thai tournament and won silver! I trained so hard. My goal is to get the gold medal this year.
The Champ was my great uncle’s neighbor in North Bergen NJ. He was a modest and humble man who never let the heavyweight title go to his head. A true deserving champion.
There is a Cinderella man in each one of us. The strongest and courageous ones always battle it out with grit and determination no matter what they go through and will emerge victorious at the end. What a masterpiece.. Truly the gold standard of acting..I take a bow to Russel Crowe and Howard. This for me is the greatest movie ever seen in my lifetime..
This scene is not just a bunch of supporters of james braddock. This is about the working man going to the top. Its the hope that life at that times did not have to be so miserable. Hope for a better life for your children and it was captured perfectly. Tears of joy that a mam went through so much and came out champion.
Sometimes, society needs a win. We people need a story that beats back the cynicism and jadedness of the hardness of life. Sometimes in a blue moon, we get James J. Braddock. People like that remind us to keep going. To keep trying. To keep fighting.
I’m from Northbergen, I live fairly close to Jim Braddocks old house, I remember when they were filming a couple scenes on boulevard east. I love this movie, it’s great for some recognition to famous Bergen people, since not many of those even exist. A great victory for James J Braddock, “New Heavy weight champion of the world!”
One of my many favorite movies. Makes you feel the pain of the great depression and when he wins it feels like the hope comes alive. Absolutely brilliant

Until this day, it’s my all-time favorite boxing film and Ron Howard film.
Of all the sports, feel good stories, why it took until 2005 for this one to land, I'll never know. Ron Howard is a special director and how he captured the human interest side, the crushing weight of the depression and how Braddock became a beacon for so many was just amazing.
I love this movie brilliant upon hearing that Braddock wins crowd in the arena in the bar on the street in the church and in the home all cheering in unison absolutely epic
