Many an old barn has valuable wooden beams. Some...are carefully torn down to rebuild others. Nevertheless most...crumble to nothing...however..many others have new life with a more modern sheet metal roof. You see a variety in Minnesota....should you travel. Those are white pine and oak boards...quite valuable. But a lot of labor. Once....years ago. There was a shipment of huge cut logs..went down in superior. It was worth retrieving because...they don’t harvest big trees like that...any more. 40ft beam is kinda rare. In one piece. The siding and long boards are aged and some worth new life. Ya just can’t buy this stuff at ....Home Depot. It’s old...it’s heavy...it still works! Many a hand forged nails...n screws from time to time. Ever try to nail oak? Tough nails required! Spikes! And so there often fitted..even dove tailed. Lincoln Logs! But big ones!
My father spoke of neighbors getting together to build them...store hay n always more room for the animals. Winter is hard on everyone. So....bigger the better, lofts are nice..as heat goes up. Down..in the cellar or other spots...Ice was stored on saw dust. Cut from the local lake. Good year round..used for making ice cream..by hand. Chilling the cream..adding sugar. A summer treat! If....If. You can find some ice! And a bucket...and some time. Maybe some chocolate syrup. Yummy! Make..more!
I can see clearly now. Johnny Nash. A very positive song! Enjoy!
