  • This is the one pedal I would recommend over any other. 29 Pedals EUNA has been in my studio for a few months, and I seriously can't picture my workflow without it. You put EUNA at the front of your pedal chain, and BOOM! Everything sounds better. It's like magic.
    Thank you so much 29 Pedals for sending me a EUNA -- I will cherish it forever
    Check out the EUNA here:

  • @PedalPlayhouse
    @PedalPlayhouse 2 года назад

    Hahaha the cake returns for SECONDS!! It really does make a difference and I appreciate the time to show it given there has been people asking why you have to have so much EQ compression before the effects start. My two fav new phrases are “mad lad” and “Fuzz lord” 😂 I know a few guys that fit the fuzz lord moniker to a tee! I’m picky about fuzz and am more a RAT person but I totally understand when you find a fuzz you like it’s a LOT of fun! It’s really great they made the EUNA have a workaround for fuzz as ya gainstaging is usually my problem with it so it’s on my list for the future I think. Thank you both this was really helpful for me to hear and see!

    I do love the crispness of the EUNA. It is especially good to keep the sharp transients of the plucks (I assume they're not called pizzacato like other stringed instruments??). It makes the unique sound of the harp sing.

    Thanks for doing this video. I own a few pedals with buffers already and you've definitely got me thinking about the 29. But I have a different question about your pedal board.
    Something I've really thought about is your positioning of the excellent Milkman 100. Conventional wisdom tells us to run cab sims and OD pedals before delays, reverbs, granular pedals, etc. So I'm wondering where the Milkman amp / cab sim really is in your chain and why.
    One big difference between you and a guitarist is the need for *clarity when playing complex, multi-voiced harmonies*. You're effectively playing the inside of a piano turned sideways in terms of the number of strings (not chromaticism, of course), while a guitarist is playing six at the most.
    Generally, the more complex the harmonies that a guitarist plays, the lower the level of distortion has to be (which is why the engineer for My Bloody Valentine told me they worked on the guitar sound and mic placement for weeks: to get that balance between visceral distortion and seventh chords).
    So I'm wondering if that need for clarity affects your placement of the amp, and where it really is in the chain. Also, I'm a piano player and keyboardist, so how musicians other than guitarists design their pedalboards is really important to me. Also, I've been wanting to buy a milkman myself! Thanks.
    (Another question I have is whether your harp can be recorded in stereo and whether you would prefer a stereo buffer for that, e.g., the Empress Buffer+ Stereo.)

  • @noyd4172
    @noyd4172 2 года назад +1

    This is the first time I've actually heard the difference with the EUNA, which may be owing to the more dynamic and overall dark/subdued nature of the harp compared to electric guitars. It's especially important to consider (as you have) that even if you're using a compressor early in chain, the signal you feed into it has a massive influence on the signal coming out of the compressor.
    May more pedals have Whatever jacks.
    Fuzzlords bit killed me.
    While I wouldn't necessarily want/need a EUNA, it works for you and other people I know, so I'm happy the pedal people are happy.
    EDIT: Came to me right as I hit the save button. The EUNA is to pedals as Escentric Molecules Molecule 01 is to fragrances; it doesn't actually have an obvious signature, it just enhances what's already there.

    • @emilyharpist
      @emilyharpist  2 года назад +1

      Haha thanks!! Yeah, I can’t speak to EUNA on any other instrument but it’s INSANE on harp! Apparently the whatever Jack is pretty expensive to put in a pedal, but it’s so so cool!!!! #fuzzlords

  • @Intaminator
    @Intaminator 2 года назад

    Hey Emily, I'm kinda curious, do you still feel a noticable difference in clarity if you use a heavy fuzz or distortion (like the Hizumitar nor Nepenthes) after it? Just asking cause I mostly play doom and while I love tinkering around with fuzzes and distortions it's always a bit of struggle to retain clarity while not having a sound is too harh or treble-y. I'm currently using a JHS buffer at the beginning of my chain but I wonder if the EUNA would significantly change things.

    Great video, explanation, and demonstration 😊
    Thank you 🙏
    On a side-note, there is an effects pedal maker over here in Oregon called Fuzzlord. Jason makes good stuff, especially if one is into heavy, tuned down, doom metal.
    So there are Fuzzlords out there 😉

    Hi Emily! Thanks a lot for this video! I'm using these kind of granular delay stuff with my Arabic Oud and it seems it could help the sound of the Oud to clear up. 29 pedals is suggesting also their Output Amp at the end of the chain. I guess this is in your case what the Milkman does. Am I right? Best regards maiki

    • @emilyharpist
      @emilyharpist  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Markus!! I haven’t tried the OAMP yet - I know it can help with cable runs going from your pedalboard into your amp - since the Milkman IS my amp, I don’t think I really have to worry about that. But if your amp is not on your pedalboard, then I definitely think it’s worth it to try one! I can’t say too much more than that because I’ve never owned one or tried it, but I hear really wonderful things about OAMP

    • @markusmai4091
      @markusmai4091 2 года назад

      Dear Emily, Thanks a lot for your answer. Ah.. The Milkman is your Amp... I usually go into an AER Classic Combo and from there into the PA. That would mean another 300€ for the OAmp (not owning the Input Amp yet).. well... Life's too short for mumbling sounds, so I'm going to get some more students.. 😅 Thanks and Happy Easter

    After seeing the pedal board walkthrough video I was kinda curious what you'd consider your essential "minimalist" board, if you were going to build that. Obviously the EUNA sounds like an auto-include, and it sounds like the eq and compressor are pretty essential, is there a can't-live-without-it effect, or at least a if-we-had-to-pick-one effect?

    • @emilyharpist
      @emilyharpist  2 года назад +3

      That is SUCH a tough question!! I think limiting it to 5 or so pedals, I would have to say EUNA, Bass Comp, Avalanche Run, Dark Star, Microcosm. If I had to choose ONE effect, maybe microcosm!!

    Hi, Ive been wanting to use effects with my pedal harp for a while and was wondering if you have any recommendations for pickups? I know you mentioned in your distortion video that you have 4 pickups, but do you have any recommendations for specific pickups I should buy and whether I should I buy multiple?

    • @emilyharpist
      @emilyharpist  2 года назад

      Hey! The pickups I use with my harps are all factory-built, so they were installed already when I purchased my harps! I would highly recommend getting a factory installed pickup if you can, as I’ve had one that I installed myself many years ago that did not sound good..
      The 4 split outputs is, I believe, a feature of only my specific harp Camac model. I’ve never seen another harp model with split outputs, and I’d have no idea how to install that yourself!!

    It would be a cool thing to compare the buffer in this pedal to say, a regular non-optimized buffer in a less expensive form, like say an EQ pedal first in chain. See if you can get a recording that shows not just how awesome it sounds to turn this pedal on, but putting ANY reasonable buffer in your pedal board at head of chain. For example, a Boss EQ pedal.

      @@emilyharpist I use a Pure Tone buffer from TrueTone. At $59.99 it’s relatively inexpensive. It’s small and simple - input/output and power. Wah and fuzz face (true bypass) go first, then the buffer. I’m thinking about adding another one to try after overdrives and distortion OR right at the end to drive my amp. Just a suggestion …

    How does this work if you are using separate pickups from your harp? This looks perfect for my dulcimer rig (your before clips had the same issue my dulcimer signal has), but I run two pickups. Do you sum the pickups together for this board?

    • @emilyharpist
      @emilyharpist  2 года назад

      I only need to put my harp’s one soundboard pickup into Euna - I send my bass pickup through a signal chain where it doesn’t need it as bad. I’m not exactly sure how it would handle summing a few pickups but I’m sure it would be fine! I can definitely try!

    • @natepultorakmusic928
      @natepultorakmusic928 2 года назад

      Hooking pickups in parallel before the buffer will cause the pickups to load each other, as the pickups will have lower impedance than the buffer/preamp/pedal you plug into. This will noticeably reduce the clarity of the sound. How do you have them hooked up currently?
