“She started out as such an ugly duckling”
What? She was beautiful the entire time....
Beautiful and nothing else.
@@w.centerprisesbluestar8603 😭😭😂😂
Derek's a fucken dweeb. This is awkward Disney with a bland Odette and a lame-ass douche prince.
OK we can understand that he wasn't attracted to her when they were kids, precisely because they were ...kids. But in their early teenage years, 'cause puberty and all, he should have started to realize it. Plus she seemed to have more personality when she was younger
I know love is blind but ctfo!!
Rogers: "She says, "Is beauty all that matters?" and you say "what else *is* there?""
Derek: "It was dumb, I know."
Rogers: "You should write a book: How to Offend Women in Five Syllables or Less."
Rogers is THE BEST.
I agree.
Roght
Yasssss
Shohna- Indeed Rogers was the best. Derek's mom had her moments too.
5:31 Look Odette makes Derek's hise jump. It's the middle ages. Love is like an appeitizer.
How could he not mention Roger; literally the best character.
“You should write a book- ‘How to Offend Women in Five Syllables or Less.”
I aspired to be like Roger and I've now achieved that goal
It's TRUE plus
1. He spent every single summer for as long as he can remember with her
2. I can point out a bunch of things about her
First example:in the first song number of the movie she takes down his entire treehouse in one kick. HOW DO YOU NOT REMEMBER THAT
Probably the best line in the movie
“Not you Wesley, you’re a RRRRRABBIT for heavens sake!”
You mean Lord Rogers.
It would have been such a better movie if they kept their personalities as a child. Even if Derek only liked Odette for her beauty, this could actually work. Make it that Odette has a little crush on Derek when they were kids and Derek only changing his mind about marrying her when she's all grown up. Derek can do that whole: "Is there anything else than beauty" thing and she rejects him.
Cut to the imposter Odette, who is equally beautiful, but she's very docile and princessy through the whole ball. And Derek notices that something is strange, because he doesn't feel the same way as he did before. Yes, this girl's beautiful, but that seems to be it? Let him have second thoughts about the whole 'announce your true love to the world', because he isn't sure if his feelings for her are still there. And later on, when the real Odette appears, he realizes that he loved Odette for her personality.
Wow, I really liked your version, it's much more logical and just nice and accurate! And it's still an interpretation of "The Swan Lake".
Sounds better
Or have Derek turn into a villian.
@@Dinosaurianationazation id watch that ngl
And look at that, a usable plot that still feels like it took months to come up with, yet it was five minutes. God, why is this hard for other people that say they try.
"A tap dancing sorcerer who wants to steal lunch money" Sound like my next D&D character.
Kevin Klingensmith What is your D&D character?
Would probably be a hell of a lot more entertaining than this entire movie
Ha
@Rebecca Sher Dungeons & Dragons
A goblin sorcerer that loves dancing!
Can we talk a second about the fact that absolutely NO ONE seems concerned about Odette's father death ? Not even Odette herself cares the slightest about him. I mean, he forced her in a relationship with Derek all her life so maybe she wasn't very fond of him, but come one !
Aye. Theres an entire kingdom that just lost its (presumably) beloved King to a ruthless murder and kidnapping. Hell, even with the tarnished reputation the Royal Family in our world has, people were still sad when the Queen passed away. And that was a natural death, not a literal assassination
True, but then again the king was pretty non specific about the great animal's identity, so no wonder everyone is glad he is dead.
Yep! I thought about that too, but was like oh well… lol
The King: Odette is... Odead
Derek: Your Majesty this is no time for puns
SHUT UP DEREK!!! YOUR LIFE IS ONE BIG UNINTENTIONAL PUN!!!
he’s odead people who see the body will say oshit
@@DisneyLord371 then he died, with no regrets
The thing of the fake Odette dancing with the prince to get him to marry her was in the original ballet... It was just Rothbart's daughter instead.
Not saying the movie's good, but it didn't steal that from Disney.
You believe the old hag older than rothbart is his daughter? Shes his henchwoman
@@cheyennerolling224 No, what they meant was in the ballet of Swan Lake, which is what this film is based around, his daughter is an evil sorceress child name Odyle and she does the same thing to seduce the prince and make him break his vow without realizing it. This is actually the story behind the film The Black Swan. For whatever reason they decided to make him in this movie have just a henchperson, instead of a beautiful daughter.
What is funny is the Barbie version did that as well
That's what I was thinking. It should've been Odile that the prince was dancing with, not Rothbart's sidekick in disguise.
"Why can't you just get stockholm syndrom like everyone else I've brought here. I had the turtle ready to marry me in a week!" DYING!
LMAO. XD.
Alda Mørkøre Nielsdóttir l
Best line ever that should of been in the movie seriously
Swans are one of the few animals that die when the lose their mate (love of their life). It is not the spell killing her, it is the nature of the form. Rothbart is just a jerk. Even defeating him makes sense with that context, the plan is screwed anyway might as well just go for the warlord plan, and take both kingdoms, what with both of their lines ended.
dangrus123 swans are also scary. He literally turns her into a killer bird, bite his ass.
That's adressed in the story. Odette asks why he doesn't just conquer the kingdom by force, and he states he wants something to legitimize his rule (i.e. a royal marriage) so that he doesn't have to live in fear of assassination or rebellion as a usurper.

@@jamestown8398 The movie would have been better had Odette told him: "Ooooh, no one told you, did they? Being the legitimate ruler doesn't protect you from assassination or rebellion".
For all the movie's flaws, that made sense. Also, Rothbart at least tried to put thought into his plan. He knew that as an usurper, he'd be facing issues with rebellion and enemies fighting him. But when Odette found out how to get around his spell, he was forced to go with the warlord option and kill both Odette and Derek.
If the parents want to join their lands so bad, why wouldn't they just get married? They seem to get along. And it would save a lot of time
They have there own partners and I bet they could not divorce because you couldn’t back then
But the film didn't show the parent's spouses, so this really add the plot holes.
If the queen and king get married would that make Odette and Derek siblings then though???
Or am I wrong?
Wishbear 4444 half siblings but yes
MonsterHunter 66 step siblings actually, half siblings would be if they shared one biological parent, so if they had the same biological mother but different fathers and vice versa then they would be half siblings but if its two kids who weren't originally related and became siblings out of their parents marring each other then their step siblings
Queen of Hearts: Off with their heads!
Maleficent: Now you shall deal with me oh prince, and all the forces of Hell!

Scar: Long live the king.
Frollo: And he shall smite the wicked and plunge them into the firey pit.

"She started out as such an ugly duckling"
I had to pause the video I was laughing so hard at that part

"She started out as such an ugly duckling, and somehow suddenly became a swan."
It's called puberty, dude.
Anthony Cinque.......For some reason i saw your Jotaro Comment
"Arrange the marriage? They've been arranging it practically since you were a sperm!"

shaina I think he was referring to the actual ceremony.
This has been a part of my dictionary for a loooong time
The movie never explained why Odette suddenly loves Derek after she turned him down. I guess Odette decided to fall in love with Derek later in the movie because I guess she feels that her being married to a prince is definitely way better than being stuck with Rothbart, even if Derek only loved her for her looks.
Derek had BDE. Big Derek energy.
Odette always loved Derek. She even said in the film "I want him to love me for me". She loved Derek but she she had to make sure that he loved her for so much more just like how she loved him, like when she says "I see him smiling and me knees start buckling, I see Inside him and my doubts are gone"
Maybe it's like Odette then sees the good in Derek as hope for she can be with him when he grew to be smart and nice as her that he could learn from her when the experience put thier love for each other to the test with Rothbart in the way although she desperately needs
Him to break her curse but seems she truly loves him because he was being there for her in a kind caring way.
I feel like she settled for him because she had no other option or choice. Hell they only hung out because their families wanted them to get married.
@julieshez387 That's not true love, though, and she has no reason to think is the one because they barely knew each other and nowhere in the film is it implied that that was happening. They clearly unrealistically fell in love at first sight when as adults. That also paint her in a bad light because that basically means she was using him to break free from the curse. Plus, why would she hope that he could free her when he was a dick to her as children? They never liked each other and she had no reason to think that Derek would become as nice as her because he was nowhere close to that when they were kids.
This movie doesn’t understand that loving someone’s looks and loving someone as a person is different.
It started to, but then it gave up on that.
@@kimifw58 Roger is the small smidge of proof of that

Wait wait wait. There's something that is NEVER addressed in the movie. After king william died and odette went missing...WHO THE FUCK IS RULING KING WILLIAMS KINGDOM?!
I kind of assumed the Queen just kind of absorbed it into hers or was declared Lord Paramount. It's never said but it's kind of clear she's running the show now.
So then if the kingdoms became combined anyway, why did Derek and Odette need to get married?
His council/advisors?
+PrimaryOctopus That's a good point. Even if he's the king, he doesn't control everything, especially daily stuff. His bureaucracy would be fine by themselves for a few days at least.
+King Keegster Yeah, I did a bit of research a while back when Frozen came out and people were wondering who ruled the kingdom until Elsa was of age. I figured there must be some back-up plan for those situations. It looks like what would usually happen is either the council or a relative takes over until the heir is of age.
I like to imagine that Odette's mind got fucked up after seeing her father get killed, so she suddenly latched onto her father's last desire (her to fall in love with and marry Derek) as a form of post traumatic stress.
BluePenguin200
That's better than the entire plot of this movie
I always figured it was more of a "Derek HAS to be my true love! Seeing as he's literally the only eligible man in my life..." situation, but I like your idea a lot more.
That...actually sounds pretty believable (and incredibly tragic).
I always thought it was weird that the wizard who can literally turn anything into anything else and freaking alter the fabric of reality on command would need such an overly elaborate and infinitely complicated plan to take over a kingdom...dude, summon a few dragons and rain fiery death down upon whatever kingdom you want to rule...not that hard a thing to accomplish when you're the only magic user in said kingdom.
His plan is literally a Tom and Jerry plan. It doesn't work out in any scenario. Why doesn't he just summon a lava golem to helonhim conquer the kingdom?
Well he basically claimed he didn't want to have to look over his shoulder for assassins for the rest of his life if he took the kingdom by force, but that still leaves about a hundred other things wrong with his plan.
clericofchaos1 he could've made his own kingdom though even exactly like the one he wanted
True enough. This guy has untold power, magic and ability....and this was his plan to take over the kingdom? What?
You murdered the king it's not like legality is a bit issue for you. Just turn your lackey into a dragon and take over already!
FlareKnight
One has to admit that trying to avoid the "spending the rest of my life fighting heroes trying to take back the kingdom" idea was actually refreshing, if only his actual plan to do so made any sense.

As a child, I didn't care too much about logic, and absolutely loved this movie. I saw the lion king once or twice but the swan princess about 50 times
Lapna Xerio I loved The Master of Disguise as a kid
exactly
People had way more suspension of disbelief and did not care about logic and realism even close as much as people do now in the old days in general in movies, TV shows, comics and other things and not only with stuff made for children.
I think I like it because of all the supporting characters. It didn't feel like a movie about them at all. I also fucking loved the turtle. If you don't watch it and only listening to his dialog you picture a more charismatic Eeyore.
What did I miss it's only been a few hours I have never been this famous before

The "Your beauty and nothing else" jokes are the best things out of this review. XD
This needs to be a meme, like "Taste the rainbow, Motherf*cker" back then.
I can't believe I never thought of how to change the plot before. To win all Rothbart had to do was:
1. Kill Odette
2. Turn his assistant into an Odette look-alike
3. Present his assistant to Odette's father's kingdom
4. Marry "Odette" to make himself king.
5. Fake his assistant's death so that the ruse is never exposed.
6. Profit - Because he now has an entire kingdom under his control.
And even if he wanted to continue
7. Seduce Derek's mother and marry her and if that doesn't work replace her with his assistant
8. Kill Derek
9. Kill Derek's mother or fake his assistant's death again like last time if he had to go that route
10. Profit even more - Because now he has two kingdoms and still has that nice summer retreat
Still want to continue?
11. Form the mages guild or whatever you want to call it to teach the dark arts to others
12. Form an army of magic users
13. Conquer the world while adhering to The Evil Overlord List
14. Profit infinity - Because he rules the world of course
Edit: Wow. So many likes and comments. And such an old comment too and still getting comments. Thank you.
I guess I must create a sequel?
15. Derek faked his death and covertly joins the mage guild.
16. Derek seduces, backstabs and anti-heroes his way up the ranks like a badass to get close to Rothbart while inadvertently developing a personality and a character. Maybe gets a sexy woman along the way.
17. After conquering another kingdom for Rothbart and subjugating its people Derek finally is in the position to take his revenge against Rothbart.
18. Things don't go according to plan but Derek is still barely able to pull off the assassination on Rothbart. Derek's sexy woman dies though.
19. Derek takes Rothbart's place as ruler of the mage guild because he's not naive anymore and knows just letting the mages of the mage guild do as they wish would be a disaster. He even goes so far as to disguise himself as Rothbart and pretend Rothbart had killed him.
20. Derek continues annexing surrounding kingdoms because he now sees how ass backwards feudal kingdoms are. Partly thanks to Rothbart's tutelage and also observing it for himself when he first infiltrated and conquered a kingdom for Rothbart.
21. After a bit of time Derek realizes he's become exactly like Rothbart. He comes to regret killing Rothbart and views him as the father he never had.
22. Rothbart reveals his death was greatly exaggerated. He knew Derek was there all along and after perfecting aging reversal through permanent transformation he had his most loyal assistant play the part of Derek's sexy woman and also faked her death.
23. After a struggle with Rothbart Derek surrenders and becomes Rothbart's right hand man. Derek also gets back with his sexy lady. (Some will find that disturbing but oh well.)
24. Some nut writes some fanfiction of Derek bringing Odette back to life with magic. But that can't be cannon because Derek realizes that Odette really was, "Beautiful and nothing else."
O_O Wow. That is a brilliant evil scheme. Maybe Rothbart was too dumb to figure that out.
Thanks :) Only took me ten seconds to come up with that one. It wasn't too hard since Rothbart had the means already.

And of course kids aren't going to know or care who the actor is or what he does so I don't know why Critic got so upset at that. I think it fits too.
Me too. Slow, kind and maybe just a little pessimistic is how I imagine the voice of a turtle

The turtle's voice would match a jaded turtle who tells you off, not a charity guy raising koney for whatever cause down the street who happens to be a turtle.

With Animaniacs, ANYTHING was fair game.
@@devanhinskey9001I still wish the reboot took on Twilight. It would be almost as funny as the Friends episode.
Why didn't Odette's father and Derek's mother just get married if they wanted to join their lands together and were worried about the future ruling of the kingdom? They clearly got along very well, their significant others seemed to be dead, they didn't have to worry about making an heir together because they each had a child, and it wasn't uncommon to marry or remarry for political or financial reasons. Marrying for love is a VERY recent affair in the grand scheme of human social history.
he was already old when Odette was born, and his wife died then. And the queen already had grey hair, so we can assume that she was past menopause. So it would be better for the two young ones to marry and bear children than have them be siblings in law.
Cause Derek's mom already likes Rogers. It is like a thing you notice if you grew up watching the first 3 movies and why I assume she did not marry the King. Although now that I am an adult I have asked the same question
I remember thinking this as a child. Why didn't the parents just get married. Especially since they spent 3 months of the year together for at least 16-20 years.
Yeah... medieval inheritance laws, here's what would have happened: after the queen died all her kingdom would be for derek, and after the king died, unless there was a consagnancy law, it would have been inherited by... idfk who since medieval law was a clusterfuck, *try playing crusader kings and understand me*
The problem is that the point is to have an heir that binds both kingdoms together -- both King William and Queen Uberta already have heirs that could fight for the throne if their parents had another child. Not to mention that Uberta is probably too old to have a child.

It would give him more to go on than something vague like "a great animal!". If he said Rothbart then Derek would ask who that was an everyone in the kingdom would tell him. An evil sorcerer who was banished for trying to take over the kingdom. There, simple.

To be fair, on the sudden love thing. Derek seemed to like her as soon as she became a teenager, that jealousy when she was flirting with the guards. Odette on the other hand, had completely stopped caring about him by then... Maybe love potions?
MsLilly200 Actually, that makes a lot of sense. "She's always flirting with the castle guards". I'm now like "Dude, why do you care? I thought you didn't like her. "
I noticed that as well. You could tell he was jealous when she was flirting, if he didn't like her then why would he even be jealous? There's nothing to suggest or support that she liked him beforehand. She really did appear like she couldn't care less about him so how is she in love with him?
I think the idea is that they grew up together and that's how they got to know one another. However, pre-puberty they pretty much were just aggravated kids who hated each other. Puberty hit, and then, Derek's feeling began to change but he didn't really know what to make of it, as most teens do. It wasn't until they were young adults that it bloomed into love.
I think that maybe they did hate each other when they were little, but once they became a bit older, it was probably the usual tsundere kid thing. AKA "I bully and pretend I hate the person I like." It's also possible that they liked each other but didn't admit it or realize it until they both became hot...

One thing I never understood, was how Odette was so angry at Derek for only loving her for her looks. As though she didn't suddenly go from hating him to sticking her tongue down his throat because she found him attractive as an adult.
I think, had he asked her to come up with a good reason for loving him, she could've said; 'Well..back in the day, I did not enjoy your violent shenanigans and I found you offensive, but I can see how much you've grown and I think I am now ready to allow myself to love you, more than that little crush I had in the beginning.."

19:42, not really. Fake Odette/Odile/Black Swan comes from the ballet. They barely have any of the ballet in this but that bit is quite a crucial factor to this tale.
The ball scene, and the witch taking the form of Odette isn't a copy of The Little mermaid. The original Swan lake tale has that.
18:45 I only noticed it now but the mother of Derek. In that frame of her...she is just a head. They didn't animated her shoulders in.
She looks like Marie Antoinette, so maybe there's a hidden meaning to that xD
I'M ACTUALLY CRYING BECAUSE OF THIS, THANK YOU
OH MY GOD XDDDD
I almost died of laughter, I've never noticed that before XD
I do remember liking this movie, and I think I still do, though I do see how it has problems.
One thing I will say in defense of the whole "sending the servant in Odette's place to the ball" scheme is, the movie was somewhat copying something in the original Swan Lake ballet. In the ballet, Rothbart's daughter, Odile, looks like Odette, so he sends Odile disguised as Odette to the prince to fool him.
Though I can see why this looks similar to the Little Mermaid movie, with the idea of a villainess disguising herself as the heroine to trick someone. Also, that plot twist doesn't happen in the original Little Mermaid fairy tale; in the original, the prince merely falls for another princess instead of the mermaid, because he believes that princess to be the one who saved him from his shipwreck.
So it was kinda like the Little Mermaid movie ripped off something from the original Swan Lake ballet, that's how it looks to me. I don't deny that it looks like Swan Princess ripped off some stuff from other Disney movies, but that's how I see that part of the movie.
Yeah didn't Rothbart have a daughter named Odile in the Swan Lake anime?
I remember loving this movie as a kid! XD
Well, but have you watched the "Barbie" movie adaptation of "The Swan Lake"? Because it's much more faithful than "Swan Princess" with a 'villainess pretend to be a heroine' plot, at least!
@@alicialockwood4641 I admit! An 'Diet-Disney' maybe weird, annoying and stale, and "Swan Princess" obviously an 'Diet-Disney' that rip-offs many classic Disney cartoons we know and love since "Snow White", that that castle above clouds Odette flew away from has ripped off the scene from "Cinderella".
But the 'Roadkill-Disney' is a whole lot worse than 'Diet-Disney, and "The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess" is most definitely an 'Roadkill-Disney' that rip-off both "Sailor Moon" and "Warcraft: The War Of The Ancients", it's absolutely nasty as it is miserable, shallow, asinine, uninspired, ballbrained, mediocre, offensive, cockimaney, pathetic, sleazy, ridiculous, beyond insulting! Believe me, "Twilight Princess" is the worst of all "The Legend Of Zelda" games in history, because it's the only game that's neither a spin-off nor mainstream type, it's rather a dishonest poorly written fucked-up parody in which that only an retarded porn junkie could find funny/enjoyable.
@@alicialockwood4641 Then again, I agree that rip-offs are everywhere. In fact both Diet-Disney and Roadkill-Disney are indeed rip-offs. So here are my two important tips for you...
1: Stick to the source materials in both "Swan Lake" and "A Little Mermaid", so you'll know the big difference between them and their animated movie adaptations. In the Original/novel version of "A Little Mermaid" there is no 'villainess disguised as a heroine' part in it.
2: WARNING! Do not play "The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess" and do not read Akira Himekawa's manga based on it, because both had a same problems with the story/plot as "Swan Princess", but only far worse even by the standards of the Nintendo games. My sister was psychologically traumatized by its plot-holes after she played it six times, so you won't fell victim in the way as long as you play any other "Legend Of Zelda" game while stay away from that particular one.
I wished they used the Tchaikovsky's Swan lake soundtrack .
Hell, why didn't they. Isn't it in public domain? If it is, it shows how little they cared about making something decent.
Pasta Animeboy Heck, The BARBIE adaptation used Tchaikovsky's music
I think they mentioned somewhere that it didn't go with the tone of the movie they were trying to set. And if you watch it, it really doesn't. The movie almost overall is very goofy and funny, and the ballet music is quite more epic and somber. However, there is a much better Japanese version that was done in the 80s that's great and does use the Swan Lake ballet music extremely well.

Ah, this man.
He's the chef of our ears
For those who are wondering what’s going on at 11:35, the video originally played a clip of the Taunting French Guard, a role John Cleese played from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I assume the clip was taken down for copyright reasons. I believe this is the clip used: “I fart in your general direction! Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!”
RUclips needs to knock this shit off!!
The silence is funnier in my opinion for some reason
Impostor Odette was part of the original musical so that wasn't a deliberate copy of the little mermaid.
I couldn't remember how to spell ballet so I said musical.
In his defence, he's obviously not into ballet and doesn't know that much about it, so how is he meant to know.
Still, he should have made his research about the movie's backstory. It takes a two second google search to find out it was based of a godamed ballet from the 19th century!
Meggy15 Well Disney obviously copied the original and this movie is trying it o be Disney. So, it still works.
Eilidh Macleod in the ballet its the black swan even though it’s usually the same dancer but it’s a different character
ACTUALLY the identity stealing part of the story is originally part of Swan Lake, NOT the Little Mermaid. HA
Not to mention, Disney isn't original - all of these tales are hundreds if not thousands of years old
xejelah Have you never seen Zootopia? 😂
GOTTEM!
I think it was the necklace thing also
I think that when he says Swan Princess(movie) ripped off The Little Mermaid. He was referring to the fact that an ugly woman was transformed into a beautiful one to deceive the male character.
Odile in the original isn’t ugly. She was basically as beautiful as Odette. So the fact that this movie changed it so that it was an ugly old lady transformed into a hot woman kind of makes it closer to The Little Mermaid than the original ballet.
Honestly, Barbie's adaptation of Swan Lake was handled better.
MacKenzie B. Yes and I’m one of the few people that likes the older barbie movies. Swan lake, nutcracker, princess and the pauper, rapunzel, etc.
Barbie Swan Lake's Odette had better chemistry with the prince than this one.
@Flora Fauna Yeah but it's not an adaptation as far as I can tell.
🙃 sarcasm emoji from me
That at least made the plan less stupid by having the temporary human form being another character’s influence and the bad guy making his daughter look like Odette.
I admit that I may have some childhood nostalgia goggles, but the Duck repeatedly being shot when everyone yells "Duck" is one of the funniest gags I've ever seen.
I always thought Rothbart being WAAAAAY too old to be marrying Odette was super gross, so I called home Rotbarf.
The sad thing is that back then and in reality, that would've been normal.
How come when Derek sees Odette when she was a baby he looks way older than her and for the rest of the movie they look the same age?
That was something I was thinking about too.
Didn't you hear Nostalgia Critic? "They came to see the newborn...three-year-old." 😂
It looks like they start the song when she’s 6ish and he’s about 8. Then they show the characters at four year intervals. The second time we see the kids, she’s about 10 and he’s about 12. The third time, 14 and 16 - they’ve both hit puberty based on the voice work and animation - and then at the end, she’s about 18 and he’s 20.
*_I GREET YOU WITH CHEETO LIGHTNING_*
What annoyed me about this film was Odette was upset because he only loved her because she was pretty but we heard no reason as to why she loved him and I got the impression it was only because he was handsome....... so pot/kettle much?
I think she was impressed by how his manners had changed from a violent, awful guy to someone that seemed okay now and seemed like a normal human.
She already kindof liked him before, but he kept on dissappointing her. This time, the chance seemed smaller that he would.
6:07 odette is...odead
KilljoyAlienGirl483 I get it

Sadly I'm afraid the real Odette the voice actress is
Clara Scott yes, Michelle Nicastro passed away from breast cancer
@@FoxieRoxie365 very sad whenever I watch the Swan princess I always think about Amanda Reece's voice coming out of Odette😭
I loved the movie as a kid, and never noticed the faults till later on. I still enjoy it.
Pixie Bubbles I still enjoy it, but always hated Derek, Odette was too good for him
Well good for you fellas

REVIEW BARBIE MOVIES!!!!!!!!!
Story Tarina I was gonna think the same thanks for saying it for me
Do you want him to kill him self?
Man why cant he review the my little pony movie
YES YES YES
No no no
They didn't hate each other in their early teens. They started developing crushes. Thus the line "I think you sort of like her, fess up". Derek was getting jealous when she was flirting with the guards.
My one beef with this movie is Derek's hair.
When you're about to make a Galivant reference until you realize the person said Valiant.
Well I kind of wanted to make that Galivant reference... which I kinda already did... I guess it's a neutral thing. GAAALIVAAANT!!!
oh c'mon, its the medieval times. Do you want him to have Justin Bieber's hair?
I think he looks more like a brunette He-Man.
...actually, so does his face. Make his jaw a bit flatter and you can't tell them apart.
HE-MAN! And the masters of the weird bowl-cuts and arrows!!!!
For those who do not know who Saint Sebastian is, he was a Roman soldier who converted to Christianity and got shot by arrows because of it.
Christ’s Moon thanks
Lapsed Catholic here, and as soon as he said "Saint Sebastian", I knew he meant the human pincushion. The only image of him burned into my mind is him tied up, nearly naked, and arrows sticking through his body. It's like the requirement to ba a Saint is to die either gruesomely, embarrassingly, or both.
Weird, you usually get riddled with arrows for NOT converting to Christianity! *Ba bum TSS*
The woman who voiced Odette, Michelle Nicastro, died from breast cancer in 2010, age 50. The woman who sung as Odette's singing voice is none other than Liz Callaway, who was also the singing voice for Princess Jasmine in The Return of Jafar, and Princess Kiara in Lion King 2. Just throwing some facts out there.
EDIT: Lea Salonga did the voice of Jasmine in the original Aladdin movie.
The signing voice for Jasmin was Lea Salonga.
Craftwork Orange
Excuse me. She was the singing voice of Princess Jasmine in the 2nd and 3rd movies.
v torry
Yes! You know, I don't recall watching that. If I did, it was a long, long time ago.
Sweet! I THOUGHT Liz Callaway's name sounded familiar! Mind blown! :) I already knew about Odette's voice actor though and it completely breaks my heart this movie and Odette were my childhood. ;(
Wow! Really?! Another mind blown! :) Liz Callaway surely is extremely talented! :)
I have mixed feelings about this. Its animation isn't bad, but it's padded with tons of filler, and it was CLEARLY trying to be Disney. The shot of Sigfried-- I mean Derek (seriously, they got Odette and Rothbart right, why'd they change his name?) cutting through brambles on a horse was the most blatant rip off. I might have liked it though, if it weren't for one thing:
I am disappointed... no, disturbed!... no, APPALLED by the utter LACK of Tchaikovsky in this film! "The music should be soft and graceful, like a swan!" *Op. 20 proceeds not to play*
And on that note, some things in this film actually did come from the ballet. The name Rothbart, for instance, is from the actual ballet. The scheme to send an evil woman disguised as Odette is also from the actual ballet, so it's actually NOT a Disney rip off. Other than that, there's not much of Swan Lake in it.
I think they changed his name because it would have been hard for children to pronounce.
I liked the Barbie version of Swan Lake better. lol
marshelle howe so..... true i'd rather watch it 24/7 than this B.S. monster
Probably because they have a better story, characters and it makes more sense than this one xD
Same
Yeah, that movie actually had the ballet music.
When you think about it, there was no point in seeing the main characters' childhoods. They start off as young troublemakers with fun personalities but, when they grow up, they become completely different characters. Sorry, Warner Bros., you can have a fun, coming-of-age story or a bland Disney princess knockoff, not both.
Jasmine and Aladdin had more chemistry than Odette and Derek and they only met after one day!
EVERY love story had more chemistry than Odette and Derek! Heck, even (heaven help me) Bella and Edward had more chemistry. So did Anna and Christian...I feel _so dirty_ for saying that.
MrWarBla wrong, they met during the summers
any love story is better than Twilight
@@tencents6 Odette and Derek do have more chemistry and a better love story than twilight and FSOF
@@haihai9022 I just Christian and Anna/Edward and Bella had better chemistry. I didn't say they had a better love story.

This movie was my childhood, too bad all the sequels kind of ruined the franchise.
the first two sequels were ok, but it all died for me when the CG ones came out
Agreed!
+TrueBlueProductions
Same here!
Yeah I watched this at least 5 times while I was a child and I love the songs ahah Especially the one when they're kids. I'm glad I never knew it had sequels until very recently
as a kid, i watched it alot too... and i think i only had the 2nd movie, so i only saw one sequel..
i also thought this was a Disney movie when i was a kid..
Rogers was the best character in the film his expressions were basically my reactions to the lines they used
To be fair, Blue Sky has come up with some good stuff. Robots had a great cast of amusing characters with interesting designs and an all-star cast. Peanuts was the perfect homage to Charles Schulz, adapting his art style to CGI flawlessly, and pushing his characters a teeny bit without compromising the spirit of Schulz's vision for them. And the first Ice Age film was pretty good.
I agree with most of what you said, but I'm pretty sure they said "Ice Age Sequels". That automatically states the original was better.
Blue Sky makes some OK movies, but they've never really made anything past that. I'm kinda hard pressed to think of anything that they've made that broke the level of "mildly amusing".
I dunno, there's just something I feel like they're missing...
i liked the dinosaur ice age
I like the first Ice Age, and I love Epic and Peanuts.
Mario87456 Rio in my opinion was probably one of Blue Sky's best works, however as nice as it was it wasn't anything ground breaking. It was your typical weakling protagonist story that ended with him growing up and getting the girl. Aside from the focus on Brazil and the emphasis on the romance-which I liked- it's a story we've heard before.
Come to think of it, what does Odette suddenly see in Derek when they meet again as adults? She asks what Derek sees in her other than her beauty, but what's there that suddenly attracted her to him in return? Both of them seem equally devoid of personality as adults so I can't imagine there is anything for her to latch onto other than his looks as well.
She’s a woman. 🤷🏾♂️
Middle ages man.
But i think the only explanation for why they act dull as adult is maturity reasons and "Learning etiquette". But its a very basic movie formula, you will most likely outgrow it after age of 6 like you will with Teletubbies.
I do have to say, Derek insisting that everything at the ball be swan-themed is pretty damn insensitive, even worse than "what else IS there?" 😂👍🏼 Good job, bro
"He disappears during the day doing nothing... Why doesn't he do something?" That was one of the funniest parts for me
"No, the goose must be plump and tender. Like a swan!"
"Okay, swan it is."
I loved this movie as a kid. And even as an adult, I still enjoy it, for all its flaws.
Plus, Howard McGillin voiced Derek. He has the singing voice of an angel . . . an angel of music, if you will. Seriously, years later I would see him on Broadway as the Phantom of the Opera and the first thing that went through my head was, "Derek? What are you doing here?!"
This is my favourite kind of review; the one where I agree with most of the criticisms but still absolutely love the movie. I'm such a dork that I can recite most of the words from the clips he shows, and I sing along with all the songs. This is one of my favourite kids' movies, EVEN THOUGH it's not "good".
Fun fact: Rothbart is German and actually means "red beard"
So he used to be a pirate?
No. He used to be a dog.
So he's a ginger dog pirate
Reggie Lovato ...that was put down.
it goes a little farther, Barbarossa (which translates to Rot[h]bart) was one of the most notable Emperors of the HRE

I would love a nostalgia critical review of the last unicorn
Ikr! I liked the Last Unicorn when I was a kid, too, and I guess my mom used to watch to watch it when she was a kid!
It would be awesome if nostalgia critic reviewed that movie
What is the last unicorn i’ve never heard of that movie
Correct me if I am wrong please, but isn't this one of the movies he has mentioned before that he likes a lot and will not review? Since a lot of his loved movies he doesn't see enough wrong with to really critique? Although... I would like to see a review myself. I adore the movie, it came out the year I was born, and I was fortunate enough later to meet the book's author (awesome guy), but I love seeing the opinions NC has, and the creative skits he sometimes does. Also, he *does* like picking on Rakin/Bass movies, so maybe that's an incentive for him.
My first exposure to "Swan Lake" was "Barbie of Swan Lake"
ellie ICONIC
And it actually uses the music from the ballet.
You mean the better adaptation of Swan Lake to grow up with
Same. I grew up with that.
When Princess Odette got kidnapped, her dying father told Prince Derek that it was a "great animal" that took Odette.
Why couldn't he just say "it was a giant bat" (because that's what Rothbart turned into),
That way, Derek would know exactly what he was looking for and wouldn't go around the forest randomly shooting animals praying he'd get the right one. He even tried to shoot Odette simply because he had no idea what he was looking for.
Is "great animal" simply an idiom for "giant big-ass bat" and I just didnt know about it?
I like to think he's just really stupid or just so sheltered he's never seen a bat before.
I heard the King's line "Odette is... Odette" and I thought it was a pun. I thought he said "Odette is O-dead"
LOL
>"Suicidal Salamander"

Salmon-mander?
It's the LoTR character. Salmomon.
A lot of the unoriginal ideas can come from the original story of Swan Lake. And yeah they messed up with The Odette imposter not being recognized. The disguise spell, from other version I've seen, only affects the prince. Everyone else can see that it isn't Odette.
That sounds like it'd make more sense actually
I would like a Disney do a version with this using Tsaikovsky music they did with Sleeping Beauty. But with this and the Barbie version I think it will not happen for decades at least.
That is the original. That's why Odette was so upset when she saw the prince swearing his love to Odile. She could see it was someone else, and was betrayed. No one else was expecting Odette, and so no one would have known it was the wrong person.

Princess Tutu was pretty great imo.

Admittedly Rogers the music conductor was the best character... “You should write a book: How to offend women in 5 syllables or less.”
I really loved this movie as a little girl. I thought that the romance and characters were good. I thought the songs were nice and the jokes were funny. I thought the action scenes were good and the villain was scary. I still think it’s good but now when they say Rothbart I think of this video. I guess what I’m trying to say is I can never truly dislike this movie, because it’s held such a special place in my heart since I was young.
"I'm never doing any more diet Disney again!"

Nicola Heekin yay 😁
i wonder why wouldn't they just copy the original Swan Princess it's a pretty good story
Because Disney changed a few things while telling the original story, and they desperately wanted to be Disney, so they just changed the whole thing without any sense of logic.
breaker dawn Probably why they didn't call it Swan Lake, they knew it was bullshit XD
Isn't the climax technically ripping off sleeping beauty I think that's why they called him "the great animal" not a dragon
I interpreted that more as a bat. Which is funny, because Jack Palance was in BATMAN and at the climax of THIS movie he becomes....a bat-man.
@@SeasideDetective2 that's actually kinda clever.
Well I feel like "great animal" is a very medieval way of describing a creature, so I think it fits
"Mr. mole, are you the great animal?"
"ANIMAL ALWAYS GREAT!!!"
"wrong answer."
"AH!"
He said Mr. Mal, not mr mole
I think they chose Steven Wright because of his slow cadence. Slow like a turtle
