Oh yeah, there’s 2 Olive Garden in the PTY airport, one on each terminal, although Terminal 2 is still yet to open. There’s also 2 Olive Gardens in Panama City: Mutliplaza Mall and AltaPlaza mall. My best friend is the girlfriend of the owner
I live in the East coast and we have some of the best Italian restaurants along with NYC. Having said that, I am not a snob and wouldn't thumb my nose at an Olive Garden at an airport.@@johniii8147
I flew Copa in 2016, Tampa to Panama City. Service was superb and food great even with real cutlery. Return, 4 wks later, San Jose to Panama City, barely over an hour, and the crew rushed to get us drinks and a light meal in that short time. Panama City back to Tampa. Lovely experience.
As a private pilot and someone who has been to over 32+ countries having flown the premier EK and SQ suites, I am usually not impressed nor care to watch many videos from RUclipsrs--of which many RUclipsrs like hearing themselves talk (20% of useful video, 80% of babble for online recognition) with their face to the screen. :-D ...until I was trying to peep CM's new 739-Max and came across your video--and I actually watched through your ENTIRE video, which I never do. :) You did the entire video as a POV, and presented well-written captions instead of just rambling as most others do. Not only did you present some meaningful facts and data, you also did not hold back on the smirks and comments with the humor. Keep up the good work man. Sadly, after waiting 3 years to experience the PTY Terminal 2 from the CoVID delays--I was able to finally visit PTY last year but was the lucky one who was put on their older 738 before its decommission, hence this 739-Max looks like a HUGE leap....and yes, being hangry at 7am anticipating the Copa Lounge's "food" left me with the "WTF" moment as my long-waited experience. :) Regarding the onboard WiFi (Satellite Broadband)--there are only a few operators that cover the Central America-North America map, Panasonic being one of them (and also the biggest)--but their technology is also too expensive and not feasible/affordable for such market (never have I seen many airlines with Panasonic offer "unlimited" data, as they all end up charging by the MB). GoGo Inflight is the popular US-based operator, but it's coverage stops the minute you're outside the US. ViaSat would be the only viable operator, which covers North/Central America across Europe- but I believe Panama's location with between the Central/South Americas would put them on that edge (if at all)--hence this would be my most "educated" guess as to the lack of onboard WiFi on such a new aircraft. BTW--Copa's logo and ops are similar to United, because it was once partially owned by Continental Airlines (which carried that logo), in which United acquired. Keep up the good work. 🖖🤙🤙
As Richard said, offer IFE only in Economy+ allows the airline to have a way to differentiate the product from regular economy and make it easier to upgrade people.
Copa airlines is decent onboard. I flew them just before Covid. The stop in Panama was hectic before with the smaller terminal. Flights to the US had to go through metal detector security and it took a while. There wasn’t a lounge with my business class ticket so it was swift exit from the departing plane to my next gate and I had a long wait before I departed at night. It was uncomfortable, I had to do work and everyone was in each others business without privacy. Nice to see they have a new terminal and an actual business class lounge, even though it’s lacking in good food options. As you saw their onboard product was decent in business class. The flight attendant was respectful, reserved and cautious but the service was slow at times and lack finesse. The best part was I had my headphones on playing music and reminiscent about my vacation the whole way through while my seat mate try to force small talk with me.
I am from Colombia, Copa is always my first choice to travel around South and central america. I hope I dont have to use Avianca never again in my life. The service of copa is a 1000 times better, the space, the fares, the service itself! No doubt Copa is the best option in LatAm!
You are lucky to have a flat bed as I will be giving a recliner from PTY-GIG, which is 7 hours too. My flight is coming up in late July 22nd. Nice video
Great video, thank you. I will be flying business class for the first time. Reno NV to GIG in Rio, this coming January. Can not wait. Your video clearly shows me what to expect. I have flown several times to Costa Rica, Panama, Mexico, and Brazil. Always for pleasure, always economy, not this time 😊
I wouldn’t ever thought you would be at my home country! Glad you were able to hop on the 737 MAX of Copa. I tried it back in 2019, before they were grounded and it was an amazing experience. Sad that it was only a 1hr flight since I was flying from Bogota to Panama for my vacation time with my family. And also, you sat at the same spot where I was at the copa club 😂
I have never seen this set up in economy. From a business POV kinda smart, this will definitely force some people to pay extra for that forward seat just for the IFE. I know I would.
It's nice to finally see the Copa 737 MAX 9 in a good trip report. I enjoyed this one, along with every one of your videos. Also, I'm a huge How To Train Your Dragon fan, and to see you watch it was awesome! How did you like it? Definitely gave me chills throughout.
Copa’s 737-9s are absolute stunners, in my opinion, this matches up to JetBlue’s A321-200Ns with the mint class. They are basically direct competitors when the 321 doesn’t have in AUX tanks.
Great video, thanks! My question is, if you're on the window seat and the person next to you is laying down. Can you scoot by them without waking them up, or do they need to move?
I hope to fly on Copa Airlines in the upcoming years on There Current and New Boeing 737-800's and Max 8's,9's and 10's too from Barbados to Panama City Awesome Video!!!!
Yes, pretty weird economy plus has IFE and regular economy doesn’t. Copa’s winglets are identical to winglets on United 737s that haven’t been painted into the evo blue livery yet!
Agree on the comments on the lounge but then again where is there decent lounge food in the region? I recently noticed Avianca’s flagship lounge in Bogota was getting more adventurous but the food looked a little like an Emergency Room visit on a plate. There is also less and less business class offerings in the region and the COPA Max product is a big improvement on their -800 offering. Happily the Embraers are gone and the -700s on the way out. COPA is moving in the right direction.
Redarging the question as to why only economy premium has the backseat screens.... First, to offer a differentiated product (it is supposed to be premium) so you can charge a little more for it and upgrade passengers when needed).Second, money reasons. The Max is going to be used mainly on the long-haul routes, and you know, the more wieght on the plane, the less range. So, you get better fuel economy, less screens to maintain because they get broken, etc. It is all about business strategy. The only missing thing is to offer internet connection in those new planes even if customers have to pay extra for it.
thank you for this wonderful video. As a Panamena I totally agree on the food offerings in Copa Club. It is truly embarrassing. They don't even offer bottled water to take on your flight with you.
I think they have one of, if not the longest 737 routes around the world. I have been told that if there is a headwind sometimes they have to stop to refuel. Its all about low cost Latin American flights. I think better than all the other carriers that serve that region ✌🏾
Ive flown copa a few times and always a good experience. Staff, planes (even the old ones) are fine for mostly short flights. The Max is for sure a huge upgrade and I hope they pretty much get all max fleet eventually. Service is always good compared to for instance , UA :). The IFE only in plus, weight and to give people a feel it is an upgrade aka a weak attempt to be a premium type economy AND reduce weight .. I will say, lack of Wi-Fi is for sure stupid especially considering they have a lot of day travel for decent distance. Really the only negative i can really bring up as sufficient to mention .
The thing about 2 -2 configuration in busines class is the window seat passenger have to step over aisle seat passengers to exit, very inconvience and annoying when the aisle seat pssenger is sleeping with the seat flat.
I'm flying with Copa from Brasilia BSB airport to Atlanta in the next Wednesday. Unfortunately they just fly with the MAX in Brazil from Sao Paulo GRU airport, my flight will be 6 hour long to PTY and more 4 hour from PTY to ATL and both flights are expected to be on the 800. I just hope they send the better 800, I noticed there's some versions without IFE and a reclining angle less than economy premium seats of other companies.
Definitely NOT an AVGEEK, but someone who did not complete his childhood with success. Fed up looking his postures. Will make sure all press-contacts of airlines share my opinion. Hope no one will use paypal anymore.
3:21 For the main hub of a flag carrier, this food buffet dedicated to Copa's premium clients is mediocre, not to mention the word "pathetic" and disrespecful. 4:46 The head rest of the seats looks very much like the ones created by the late French designer Andrée Putman for the Concorde! Please Google "andrée putman concorde" to compare. 4:57 Beautiful + relaxing welcome music. 5:52 Was the noise a result of someone placing their suitcases onto the luggage bin? Incredible! 14:34 As a south american myself I did not get your mention here about coffee cup and saucer. 14:51 It is a cool way of filming the cabin. Quite different and surprising. 15:20 I would like to ask you why you dislike the Rockwell Collins lavatories. Thanks for this beautiful report.
That is an indeed a strange choice of IFE only in premium economy and unique. Likely a cost cutting move and can't say acceptable given how long some of their flights are. But great job on a 737 for the MAX business class.
Overall find Copa to be pretty decent Wish partnership with United was closer. Free CPUs on Copa for UA elites would be great - also as their J class usually isn't full. Also they fly pretty long routes with the old recliner seats in J class. I think just a few changes would make them a great airline .
Great video. Of all places in the world, wasn't expecting an Olive Garden at the Panama airport lol
Oh yeah, there’s 2 Olive Garden in the PTY airport, one on each terminal, although Terminal 2 is still yet to open. There’s also 2 Olive Gardens in Panama City: Mutliplaza Mall and AltaPlaza mall. My best friend is the girlfriend of the owner

how was service? Like refilling drinks? Copa FAs are notorious for sending out dinner and then running behind the curtain....

Why IFE only in E+? Up-sell.
No food?
Why does this look very similar to Delta 757 One seats?
Since there are really only a few seat vendors out there. Similar seats on many carriers with a few tweaks for a carrier here and there.
