My channel generally focuses on a more casual side of speedruns. With these videos I want to show off cool speedruns, explain how they work, and entertain. Hopefully you enjoy the content and maybe even take up speedrunning yourself, because it is truly a lot of fun!
Octodad: Dadliest Catch explanation (from Steam):
Octodad: Dadliest Catch is a game about destruction, deception, and fatherhood. The player controls Octodad, a dapper octopus masquerading as a human, as he goes about his life. Octodad's existence is a constant struggle, as he must master mundane tasks with his unwieldy boneless tentacles while simultaneously keeping his cephalopodan nature a secret from his human family.
In this sequel to the splash hit Octodad, our cephaloprotagonist has gotten himself in a bind between his wife’s mounting mistrust, and a disastrous trip to the local aquarium! Are you dad enough to control the titular octopus father as he strives to hide his nautical nature from his family while keeping his tangled tentacles intact?
In Octo-ber 2010, a group of university students released the original Octodad into the world. Despite everyone being convinced that the game was about a normal human dad, the game was a cult hit, gained critical acclaim, and was an Independent Games Festival Student Finalist in 2011. Octodad received enough attention that the team decided to run a Kickstarter, form the game studio Young Horses, and create a bigger, better, more polished game about Octodad. Two and a half years after beginning production, Octodad: Dadliest Catch is ready to flop awkwardly into your arms.

Had to think about how OctoDad has to suffer 4 different consciousness arguing about how to be efficient at doing basics and claiming who is better while he is powerless to do anything about it. He has little control over the minds of his limbs I cried a little. But as long as they are going fast it's fine I guess.
Reading this remind me of Twitch play Pokemon where they took hours trying to cut down a single tree

i guess it sorta depends who you're stuck with, like for example if they're all similar people who are actually coordinated with eachother then i feel like it'd be nice

I was honestly expecting the Arms to accidentally discover a new skip by flailing objects around so much that you clip through a wall or something.
Instead they just slows them down

It actually makes sense you guys were faster together, in a game like octodad you usually can't multitask, so you constantly alternate movements and that's a time loss in itself, besides learning how to properly do every action
So when playing coop, each one focuses on their singular functions as arms or legs

the time potential ceiling is high, but the difficulty ceiling is double..
The legs carried most of the run while the arms messed around, but the arms made this speedrun hilarious. So I say both teams contributed equally to the run.
I'm really impressed that you all managed to beat the record time despite messing around. Now that's teamwork. :D
The fact that you guys could've been even faster if the arms didn't grab all those thkngs that weren't meeded is amazing to me

Arms grabbing and dragging random crap around loosing time reminds me of multiplayer stealth sections in games and having to run to the object because someone else triggered the alarms.

I play with my older brothers, so my experience is more of:
Me:“Hey, you got a silencer right.”
2nd oldest brother: “No, I don’t.”
Oldest: “I do.”
I tell 2nd oldest to not go inside and wait for us to give him the loot to walk to the van. Oldest and I lock pick a door and silently kill a guard.
Oldest: *throws a fucking grenade into the lobby, killing a few civilians and triggering the alarm*
Me: “Why did you do that?!”
Oldest: “I hit the wrong button.”
2nd oldest, who actually wanted to do it stealth: “Goddamnit!”

I love how the arms would definitely be rivals if not for the common enemy they find in the legs.

Can’t say I favored arms or legs, the excessive souvenir grabbing was a little goofy, but at the same time, you got a live a little, y’know?
I guess the legs also have the advantage of physically not being able to throw the run- just because that’s what arms do. They could certainly punt it, though

arms had some of the best time saves and great moments but legs were always on task and i think while at their best arms were better the consistency of legs saved more time in the long run so im team legs

Imagine beating a world record and still having time to get extra grossaries, vending machines, soviners, etc.
When this game came out, I was at least 7-8 years old, This game was so fun that I never got tired of playing it after several times and I even had a shortcut for the game of my own, I tried speed running it once, I calculated the time ,finished the game at least 25-30 minutes, now that I watched this I kinda wanna play it again and beat my old score heh
please do more co-op 2,3 and 4 everyone added so much to the conversation and the clash of personalitys and things were so good please start a 4way channel

All those times saves from team arms, even team legs had to give them credit, espeacially with the legs throwing so hard. Team arms had time to carry their mischief and team legs throwing for the sub 29. Beautiful. Also I vote for right leg amputation, not only the child negligence, but that tray return scene warrants punishment.

But trying to get around with 4 people controlling one character is a little bit tenta-cruel
This concept is actually somewhat biologically accurate because an octopus' neurons are spread throughout all of its arms, meaning they all do have some independent motor function. Nice goin guys lol.
I love how during the speedrun the legs are saying they're better than the arms and the arms are saying they're better than the legs, and in creative ways too
I only watched for 2 minutes so far and I loved when the arms said that Octodad has "useless legs" and the legs saying "with arms like these we haven't cut them off yet"

Way more entertaining to have a straight-man, than just have blokes aimlessly mess around.
Just on the topic of this game, when I first saw it in 2017 (a little late, I know), I was REALLY in love with it and wanted to play it so badly. 7 years later, I decided to buy it finally. I used to think the controls were simply just a problem the players had, but oh no. They were still so confusing, even after beating it. I'm surprised I managed to even beat it at all.
I mean each arm in an octopus basically has its own spinal cord so maybe if our spinal cords became sentient and took over our body, our dreams of having an octopus husbando with 0 motor skills and 4 fully conscious beings within it could come to fruition.
