Cool video, man. I would put "Mechanize" in the S Tier, along with "Demanufacture". "Mechanize" is my favorite Fear Factory album. Pure brutality all the way through. Flawless. I really dig the new one too. I need to spend more time with it, but it seems like A Tier for me.
My rank: S: Demanufacture, Mechanize A: Obsolete, Genexus B: Archetype, Digimortal (bonus tracks version) C: Transgression, Soul of a New Machine, The Industrialist D: Digimortal (normal version :P) I haven't heard the new one yet... I'll get right on that!
Transgression was definitely rushed. I don't think the mixing / production even got finished. The track "My Grave" which came out separately probably should have been on the album too (and would have made a great lead single).
so happy you make viodeos again, tbh didnt know fear factory before, gave it a listen for the last 3hours its hella nice, ty, like the video and the ranking
It's so nice to see a new video from you and for one of my favorite bands! I've listened to this album twice and I fucking love it. I'd put it up there with Obsolete and Mechanize. I swear this isn't a plug of some kind but you mentioned horror and metal and I just had to say that myself and a friend of mine have a (very) small channel called Breakdowns & Bodybags that reviews horror movies and metal music. Thought you might dig it. Regardless it's great to see you back and fuck yeah to Fear Factory.
Thanks a lot bro. Glad you enjoyed the vid. Fear Factory are an amazing band and the new album is great. I will check out your channel for sure. Sounds interesting.
Good to see you back bro. Missed you man. Doing horror movies would be cool I love horror movies, in fact if you don’t do horror movie videos then I can’t watch them and I DON’T WANT TO LIVE THAT WAY, I DON’T WANT TO LIVE THAT WAY, I DON’T WANT TO LIVE…..THAT…..WAAAAAAYYY 😉
Hey Brother. Glad your back. Great overview. Fear Factory will stand the test of time. Also, replacing Burton is going to be ridiculously hard. Anyhow. Glad you went through a ranking system of what now will be considered the Burton era. ;)
@@freetobewhoibe my pleasure my friend. The future does look quite bleak without Burton and personally right now I cannot think of a good replacement for him. I think the new singer will probably be some no name like how Journey replaced Steve Perry. Lol.
It's crazy how similar your ranking is to mine; your top 3 are identical to mine. I've been listening to Fear Factory since the mid-90s so they hold a special place in my heart. It's really too bad the members from that era couldn't work out their diffetences, I know many fans would love nothing more than Burt, Dino, Ray & Christian to settle their differences and get back together. Yes, metal and horror are "cut from the same cloth" (a line from my favorite movie, Cemetery Man). I look forward to hearing your horror reviews.
Very happy to see you back, sir! Always loved your videos! I had the exact same thought about Purity being similar to Replica, it's several things through the song! It even has a Huh! shout similar to the Hah! at the beginning of Replica. Mike Heller does an amazing job on the drums on this album! I'm actually excited about FF getting a new singer. Seing them live with someone who can actually hit a note live will be really cool! I also think his vocals have been the weak point of the past couple albums. He sounds tired and uninspired imo. One thing that really bugs me is how boring their album covers have gotten. The first three albums have such iconic albums covers. Digimortal had a decent cover, I guess. But ever since then it's just been various FF logos. Super boring. So much cool stuff they could do that tied into the concepts in a more interesting way.
You make a very valid point about the album covers. I should have thought of that. There is leaked artwork online for the new album. It was going to be called monolith and I thought the artwork for it looked amazing. Shame they didn't use that.
Thanks a lot man. That means a lot. I may get round to reviewing Fortitude at some point but, I'll be honest, there's going to be less music reviews from now on. I am going to be looking at horror movies, old and new for a bit. Something I've wanted to do for a while. I'll still talk about the odd album here and there though.
Thank you sir excellent content me myself a massive fear factory fan they really don't have a bad album 🤘🏻 I'm getting the new album tomorrow very stoked to see the art work and reading the lyrics once again excellent channel 🤘🏻🔥hope you do more reviews because yr great at it cheers 🥂 sir
Mechenize and Genexsus are definitely in the A tier. The songwriting is a lot more hooky on Genexsus than Mechanize even though Mechanize is the heavier album. Expiration Date should have been in the Bladerunner 2049 soundtrack oh well. FF is going to re release The Industrialist with Mike Heller on drums and some guitar dubbing too. Once that happens the Industrialist will move up to be B. Aggression is an A too. It is their most cinematic album sonic wise and the riffs just crush, you can tell it was such a passionate effort from everyone in the studio. SOANM could've been an A too if it removed the 5 death grind songs with just the 12 that are the blueprint of what was to come. They won't be touring until 2022 so a part of me has fool's hope Burton will come back by then but I am OK with a new vocalist. I imagine it would be someone younger that can handle both growl and clean deliveries with no problem that kind of sounds like Burton. We'll see.
What a surprise to see you return man, I was very anticipated for FF's new album and I absolutely say it is a very awesome record and maybe consider it to be one of their best albums since Archetype. I always loved the classic era from the albums with Demanufacture to Digimortal but as awesome albums were made with FF's discography and also they were the first metal band in the industrial metal genre I got into. Absolutely devastated when he left the band and Burton's very underrated and one of the best vocalists in metal. I very respect and understand what him and Dino went through but it reminds me like Roger Waters with Pink Floyd suing the band with using the band's name after he left. And I give Dino credit for the mentality and work he went to make this album. Always one of my favourite metal bands of all time with a very flawless discography and as in my words one of the masters of the industrial metal genre. Awesome review and ranking mate and yet my ranking will be different to yours ahaha. I hope you are doing very well mentally and positively, very happy to see you again.
Mechanize higher than SoaNM? Bruh, SoaNM is monster, an album that never been repeated by any band, so much classics, Leechmaster, Scumgrief, Lifeblind. I cant remember a single track of mechanize.
S: Soul of a New Machine, Demanufacture, Obsolete A: Digimortal (if you remove Linchpin and Back the fuck up), Aggression Continuum B: Archetype, the Industrialist C: transgression D: Genexus, Mechanize
Thanks very much Dustin. I am going to be doing more videos but I'm changing things up a bit. There will be less music reviews and more about horror movies. It is something I have wanted to do for a while and I figure that metal and horror go hand in hand.
Great band Fear Factory has been my favorite band since I was like 16 more than 20 years ago. And yeah Demanufacture is probably my favorite my tier list would be almost identical.
Sometime in the mid 90's, I was asked if I'd like to see Megadeth by a good friend of mine. I had just started to get into the big 4 thrash bands. Megadeth was on the Youthanasia tour. The opening bands were Fear Factory, Korn, and Flotsam & Jetsam. Flotsam & Jetsam were turned away at the Canadian border for some reason. So the concert was FF, Korn, Megadeth. I had never been in a mosh pit before. FF opened with the song Demanufacture. I was right up front. I immediately got elbowed in the face, went down, and got picked up. I was home.
I love Soul Of A New Machine. Demanufacture is probably my favourite album of all time. I loved about half of Obsolete. Then all the albums after that are really meh for me, where i like just one or two songs on each. I've not been able to work out if it's just my taste or if the band have been a bit stagnant that time. Good to see you back dude.
I'm a huge fan of the later stuff, but I could never really get into Soul of a New Machine. It's not that I don't like death metal. It's just that to me, SOATM is neither a very good death metal album, or a very good Fear Factory album. It doesn't hit either spot for me. Guess it's just not to my taste for whatever reason... Demanufacture, Obsolete and Mechanize are my favourites. But I like all their stuff.
Cheers man. That is not dissimilar to how I felt for a while but I have revisited over the past 7 months or so and was pleasantly surprised at how much good stuff they have. Awesome band.
Welcome back and as always enjoyable content. I've never really watched horror but I am sure you'll make it an interesting watch too. I was into FF back in the day and enjoyed Demanufacture and then Obsolete. I think I got bored after the next one and didn't continue. I had a listen to the opening track of the latest one and it sounded exactly as I remembered bar the strings, so I'll probably stick with what I have. However I can't deny when they came out they were completely fresh and new! My latest album that got me excited is CLT DRP which although completely different to FF mixes electronic with rock.
Thanks a lot bro. I figured horror and metal go well together so I'm gonna give it a go. Thinks it's important to concentrate on the things that interest us as there is so much negativity in the world right now. I get where you're coming from with FF but the more I've spent listening to them over the past 7 months the more I have gotten into them again. Great band. Thanks for your support as always bro.
I got to admit that I agree on most of the decisions you made, though I would've put Digimortal on E and Transgression on D. I just didn't connect with the album, but I enjoy Transgression.
