    Strong storytelling, taking me into these 2 cities...with the usual ultra-strong guitar, bass and drums, plus some synth surprises! Thanks for watching! 🥰

    Neil lived in London for a while pre-Rush, thinking he'd show up, find and join the next Led Zeppelin or Who, and he'd be rich and famous. When he eventually realized that wasn't happening, he moved back to Canada to work at his dad's store. And then a bit after that he answered a want ad from some weird guys named Geddy and Alex.
    Pretty much every other song on Moving Pictures is better known, but for my money this is the best one. Many cool moments, a great overall vibe, and it's capped off with a top 10 Alex solo.

      @@retroreactions....Actually Neil was asked to audition for the band by Rush's management.
      I heard him in an interview once that he didn't need to cross an ocean to find his future just cross the lake (Lake Ontario)

      About a year ago I discovered Neil’s travelogues and found them to be outstanding audiobooks to listen to before sleep. I think I’ve heard about six of them. The narrator sounds almost exactly like Neil, so it’s like Neil is reading to you.
      Yeah, he spoke of his time in London and how fun it was….and poor 😏.
      And yeah, when he auditioned, there was no question about it; He was the right fit.

    If that intro doesn't tell you it is the 80s, nothing will. All three are their usual excellent selves, but The Professor(RIP Neil Peart) on drums is superb--he doesn't overplay(this might be a production/engineering choice)--many drummers might have, overplaying would have gave the song a bit too heavy a feel, given the lyrics
    Like all good long songs, it doesn't feel as long as the time listed--the songwriting worked
    The bells at the end are supposed to represent Big Ben, if memory serves

    • @retroreactions....
      @retroreactions....  4 месяца назад +1

      80s Rush rules!! You know me and my deep love for the "legend's" 80s work (Yes, ELP, Supertramp, Rush, etc...) Great point about Neil's restraint. Still shining of course. Big Ben makes sense...it was my only thought, but I didn't wanna sound dumb if I was wrong haha....

      @@retroreactions.... - To be precise, 'Big Ben' actually is the name of the biggest bell in the spire of that structure called Westminster Abbey 🙂
      *Correction:* Not Westminster Abbey but the Houses of Parliament, and the spire housing the Big Ben bell is the Elizabeth Tower (formerly just 'Clock Tower') 😉👍

      The first time I'd heard 'Moving Pictures' was on a class mate's Walkman during a school trip to Vienna (from Germany) in April '89, and I realised only several weeks later and when buying my own vinyl copy that he'd recorded the two sides in the opposite order!
      Slowly (but surely) setting the mood with 'The Camera Eye', having the banger 'Tom Sawyer' in the middle and closing with the crescendo at the end of 'Limelight'. And this order still makes more sense to me today! 😀

    Nice to have Rush back! Great song, although I agree not their best. I believe I saw the Moving Pictures tour a couple of times. From that album, I still recommend “Red Barchetta”, which is good and I didn’t look back to see if you’ve already reacted to “Limelight” which is a great song.

    • @retroreactions....
      @retroreactions....  4 месяца назад

      Yes, Limelight was an early reaction of mine. I remember liking it a lot. So awesome that you were in the presence of these 3 legends! Yes, Red B high on the list, Cygnus Book 1 almost made the cut, but it wasn't the right time....Hope your week's going well...

      Indeed…Cygnus X-1 Book 1 and Book 2 need to be done at the right time. I like how Book I ends A Farewell to Kings and Book II starts Hemispheres. I see that Geddy and Alex have a couple of different drummers that they’re considering for a possible 2025 Rush tour. Also, I sent you an email a couple of days ago. Has a picture you’ll get a kick out of.

    • @retroreactions....
      @retroreactions....  4 месяца назад

      Like an early release time for Cygnus to begin with! YT tends to quickly "terminate" the vids that I release really late, as less people are on to watch them. Woah, so the rumors are true? That would be amazing if they reunite. Yes, I got the email and replied yesterday (awesome pic of DM!), but then today I got a message saying there is a problem delivering it. Any issues on your end that you know of? Google says it will keep trying to send it for 46 more hours haha...let's see what happens...

    In my opinion, this is Geddy's greatest vocal performance. The jam at the end of the song is also pretty incredible. My only regret is the song doesn't continue on to Tokyo and then Sydney, Australia. Can only imagine how Neil Peart's camera eye would have described those cities.

    While I don't think it's one of their best tunes, it is one of my favorites. Hearing Rush play "Camera Eye" , as well as the entire "Moving Pictures" album, on the Time Machine tour was a real treat. It was at the 2011 Cleveland show no less, which was released on DVD. The lyrics, Geddy's vocal, and the vibe is the highlight for me. It sounds "so Rush", similar to how "Jacob's Ladder" makes me feel. Moving to Boston in the late '80's from a small town for college, I enjoyed taking walks in the city and would sometimes have a listen to "Camera Eye" before my journeys. Just love this band to my core. Great reaction Brandon! Love the Rush, Genesis, and Bowie videos in particular:)

    Sir.. it's time of emotional reactions... these are my recommendations, 2 sequences with 2 different types of emotions/vibes
    1. [1979] Opera Sauvage album, "Hymne" + [1981] Chariots Of Fire album "Eric's Theme", TOP 1 and 2 ever, of the perfect music for the entrance into a church of a couple who are getting married.
    2. "La Petite Fille De La Mer" (use the short version from [2003] Odyssey album) + [1972] L'Apocalypse Des Animaux album, "La Mort Du Loup" (I HOPE that you resist emotionally to this COSMIC vibe reaction).

I have read all of Neil Peart's books as well as Geddy Lee's autobiography, and I believe in one of those books one of the guys says that clip was taken from an old movie (the title was named, but I cannot recall that either!) Suffice to say that it it's two Londoners greeting one another.
