Having some fun with Terraria's housing guidelines
I think now I have an easy way to auto spawn the WOF
@@sansalphawolf3293 this comment deserved to be pinned.
Imma put this on a server
Can you place tables and chairs on spike blocks? If so changing the only solid block with a spike can be quite fun
A medium core run where you have to get as much done as possible before the WOF kills all players
@@stan2139, if I remember correctly, you actually can do that, and even Terrasteel himself did that once.
I made a house underwater in the ocean in my multiplayer and the tavernkeep has died hundreds of times, every day at 8:09 PM ingame in addition to several times per day
What happened at 8:09 PM?

I remember one time, me and a friend made a torture chamber with wooden houses for the party girl, clothier and stylist. Every time they spawned, if they wanted to sit on their chair to do anything (which wasn't the way to do it since the table was like 10 blocks away), they'd have to jump up through a half tunnel made of spikes. Once they sat on the chair, they'd be slowly incinerated by lava. This would cause them to immediately sit back up from the chair, walk around aimlessly (while still burning), and fall back into the first room, where they would endlessly repeat the cycle, with no way out other than 1 tile wide platforms spaced out so they can't escape.
You missed cactus furniture
Nooo I love the stylist 😭😭
i gotta use this
Demonic, that's should be the Angler, not the stylist
Sisyphean architecture
placing 1 singular torch in a sky island house is a classic (and good for sectioning off useless i mean less necessary townsfolk to make room for more)
But those are nice houses! If I had a way to get down again, I would gladly live on one of those places!
True, also HI CORNY!

Haven't used it since the 1.1 era

@@kwildspirit not 0 copper since bubble blocks cost a bit from the party girl
my favorite housing guideline jank is how it's possible for a house to be invalid, but then you place furniture *outside* the house and that makes it valid
"Fancy houses don't give any tangible benefit"
But It makes me feel good my NPCs are happy
That's what "tangible" means
@@theopoldthegamer4284 My empathy is palpable
@@AidenOcelotGiving the npcs fancier houses is not practical and takes a lot of time though.
@@Ceccener And all the worth it
Except it doesn't make them any happier than the dumb block house. Because NPC happiness is literally a mechanic and this doesn't affect it.

@@eltiolavara9 He's an annoying little kid, and he tries to enslave you.
Reminds me of when Gromek999 was making terrible "housing" in one of his series (don't remember the episode). He managed to make a house (almost) entirely of boulders. Also spikes are valid building blocks too so you could "improve" your design by replacing the one solid block with a spike block.
All of us will be quick to click on a video which tells how to more effectively make our NPCs lives miserable
I am probably the only one who makes actually good houses for his NPCs.
@@Meowlegend7I make nice houses, but it's mostly impractical tbh
@@Meowlegend7 i make a shoe boxe for the angler only i mean he did ask for it and totally not force it to live in with no air to breath
I accidently figured out liquids don't get checked when I moved the angler into hell (where that demon spawn belongs) and lava got into his house, he would die from it (sorry, he'd "leave") and immediately move back in only to die again, it was blissful to watch him get eternal punishment by my hand
Chill.

Here's mine: "Sleeping with the Fishes".
Requires: An ocean.
You dig below from land, until you have a nice hole. Patch it up.
Dig to the side of the ocean, but add a door before you open it to the water.
Add a chair, a table, walls, and a ceiling lantern.
Open the door, let it flood in.
_"This housing is suitable."_
Bonus points if you add a shark statue connected to a pressure plate next to a chair so every time they sit its active combat
@@rajenredona4346 , angler wants fishes? Wish granted.
(The Monkey's Paw curls.)
I made an unescapable hole in the world with a broken glass floor precariously dangling the Guide over lava, with hanging skeletons on the wall and the walls out of spikes, and this is about as bad as that.
Me waiting for the single mother to stop yapping about her child getting third degree burns from her lava bubble apartment so I can tell her I'm raising her rent by 250%:
Am I the only one who _hates_ that houses can be "too big"? I was building some cool mushroom house and spent like 30 minutes trying to fill it up as much as possible with furniture but it wasn't enough and had to split it into two houses lol
As an avid 4x8 enjoyer, I don't agree
Hard agree. I just want to have a big room but i cant without the game yelling at me that its too big
@@NotSnak The trick is to build them a _bedroom_ that is correct house size, and then you can make the entire rest of the structure whatever.
NPCs don't need a chair and a table, they need a comfort object and a surface object, and you know what counts for that? A bed and a dresser. In fact, lots of furniture and crafting surfaces count as "flat surfaces". I would advise creating a journey world so you can test what items are viable, but generally, if it's something you can sit or lay on, it's a comfort item, and if you can stand on it or put candles/bottles on it, it's a flattop item.
@@Xahnel i mean yes i know this but i want the room they live in to be big i shouldnt have to segment anything off because of arbitrary limitations
@@NotSnak why not just use platforms and echo paint?
Or bubble blocks.
The sad thing is if this house existed irl, it'd still cost $400,000 at least.
...for 12 seconds
The other sad thing is you don't even need to say what country you're in, cuz it's true for so many.
LOL true
bro made the stomach
Complete with digestion!
Reminds me that "guys will live in appartments like this and see no issue" meme
Now use a cactus toilet for seating and a shadow torch for lighting
This is only an option for the angler😭🙏🏻
Get this comment to top yall
i used to use living wood houses but they don’t work with just a torch anymore:(
I've been slowly grinding out my last achievement which is supreme helper minion. Doing it on one save lol.
I want to celebrate the 200th turn in by making a house in the underworld at the edge of the world. Having them fall down into it, but this...
THIS gives me an idea on the conclusion!
"hey everybody it's josh welcome back to let's game it out"
this is 100% something he would try to experiment with
"I wonder what the limits are on this housing okay cactus chair light over down there where they can't really use it the workbench being completely out of sight and a hoik loop trap they need to avoid or else all underground of course so they never see the light of day again"
Usually to summon the mushroom guy above ground I just replace the grass on a sky island with mud/mushroom seeds and place a torch in the house. Bam, instant perfect house for him
Now im making nice and cozy house for a guide. In the Underworld. Filled with lava
Can we note the fact that by stacking teleporters and breaking the one at the bottom you can have literall floating chair and table, meaning that we can reduce a "house" to literal single platform as a door, a house made out of bubble blocks, filled with lava, floating furniture and move in the Goblin Stinkerer, now you have the "perfect house"
Nah the angler
2:26 what if you used teleporter glitch and made furniture in the air
I think terraria still make a fuss about it and still needs blocks but better to test it than take my word for it
In a multiplayer world, I made the angler’s house out of spikes and made it so he couldn’t reach any of the furniture. You took damage whenever you spoke to him, but it was well worth it
My favourite thing in calamity mod is to build noc housings out of auric ore and watch them get flung around and brutally die.
Ever since the painter spawned in a world me, my brother, and my cousin played on, he was cursed to spawn in the same underground house that was flooded with water, for an eternity, and the chat was always filled with just his death messages and respawn messages
42 seconds ago is as crazy as the next last update
I was expecting a house made of cactus boulders or with a conveyor into spikes, but I had no idea that you could just fill a house with lava while keeping it suitable!
Every time I see one of your videos in my feed it's been the chance to see your content keep getting better.
I like how in-character you are when you mention the "housing codes" here and there
I have never skimped on building an npc house but still very cool video.
I love the damage sound at the very end as you fly away from the Angler hahahahaha
Heyoooo I recognize my developer wings anywhere! Love your video dude!
Gromek and his crew was screwing around with this type of thing on their "terraria veterans" series a couple months ago. Pretty good stuff
I know what to add to my world: The Cursed Apartment!
3:17 I love how you just pull out a cursed torch to put in the water
It's not a cursed torch, it's a coral torch. It's the only pre-hardmode torch that works underwater.
You can tell if you pause the game when he holds it in hand, the sprite looks pink rod + blue flame, instead of cursed flame's bright green color.
Most of those houses look like a very pixilated outline of Alaska. I like it!
For more funny house designs I would also recommend sorbet cafe’s building guide, someone I consider a master of building shitty houses
This apartment doesn't come with air... or walls... or an actual door. But it does have furniture!
Finally, a video with actual CC, I can watch this! +1 sub
The Sea King in calamity can live underwater, so my ocean house has him submerged in water, while the rest of the npcs are above water
If you didn’t have liquid and painted the bubble blocks with echo coating, your npc’s would be playing skyblock for eternity
I love the houses gromek and co. build in his don't starve seed playthrough
I really enjoy binge watching these videos, I genuinely learn something new every time!
thank you for your contributions, i will write this down for future use
This just reminds me of the NPC houses the Terraria Veterans build vaise some of them were basically just like the one in this video.
Multiple of them were also build with just boulders as walls and floor
Bubbles being valid walls while also non-collision would be really nice for a nurse heal box, wouldn't it? Swoop in, heal, and fly right out again without getting stuck on any blocks
"Remember kids, it isn't murder if he did it by himself."
Another one I need to remember!
I have a certain feeling that Terrasteel made this video shortly after getting Supreme Helper Minion achievement.
Or getting scammed by Goblin Tinkerer out of 50 platinum.
that’s one way to solve the ungodly amount of NPC’s spawned in by the modpack I use.
Might save the lava one for the merchant and angler tho
The boulder house will always be my favorite. A house made of boulders is a constant threat, a way to claim dominance over whomever lives there: at any time you can crash their house down upon them and they'd have no choice but to die.
There's about two ways to make a horrible NPC house:
Practically impractical (The house presented here)
Impractically impractical (Complete torture house with full wire contraptions)
Guide randomly teleports into the house after it cycles other npcs trying to move into it and spawns WoF :)
3:05 hbomberguy is gonna freak when he hears about this...
i remember back in the old days of 1.2 i used to use explosive blocks to blow large holes for my NPCs lol
im so gunna use the snake house design and make my friend say "what the f++k????" the next time i drag him onto a run with me lmaoo
shimmer is definitely the superior liquid since it doesnt kill them, but instead tortures them (and any visitors) to eternity
Actually you can make the furniture float by using the tp glistch, if you place on the tp and then remove the block below the tp it will break but the furniture above will not
and yet, the most morally correct landlord
my man had to build the most unlivable house and decided to make it in shape of squarepusher's logo 👍👍
other clasic designs includ the boulder house. the trap block house. and the varient lizard wooden spike block house.
the meteorite/hellstone block house.
I’d add some way to counteract the lava damage and keep the NPCs alive. You don’t want them dying was that would only end their suffering!
This sounds like the base I make for myself.
I think I've just found the best house design for my angler
this is torture and im all for it
I remember seeing a reddit post where the op was asking why the housing requirement wasn’t being met and what was shown was a fucking 4 by 4 box
I'm gonna use that sunflower abuse to build towns in evil biomes lol
See, there's another block that is arguably worse
The spikes you find in the Dungeon
I use the speedtunners platform house for putting a nurse in the middle of an arena
this is helps people improve their efficient designs
how to be a new york landlord in terraria
subcribed automaTICALLY love video
Use the corruption variant of flesh that I forgot what it was called. Use that block for the 2 spaces where you put the table
another way to torture the angler. I'll add that to the book
You're gonna make me want to play terraria again...
Finally, a good house for angler
extra points for adding tax collecter next to them (everyone hate him and he give you their tax money)
I'll always make a fancy house however I'll bug out one house where it can bring in and hold all NPC at once then build the houses for each later.
I wish to file a privacy complaint, my house is visible in this video.
And this sleek, modern, and ergonomic design only costs $2,000,000!!!!!
The Dynamite Hole xD
ah yes, i finally found the perfect house for the angler
Could you use spikes for the 3 blocks? I think they don't affect NPCs but it still looks more cursed
Probably yeah
Most generous landlord
you could turn this into a technology by finding a way to nestle the houses
Normally I just stuff everybody into a basement with no exit, but I think I'll be using this from now on.
but seriously what if you need those npcs you should instead go for the underground nightmare design including darkness cactus chair lava all around the chair so they have to stay on it and the workbench completely out of sight
and yet its still 50,000 to live in inside of new york city
I have a house full of water with a waterproof torch in it. The angler keeps drowning.
this is probably a training video for housing developers except you actually price them realistically
Bruh, the angler is a literal child 😂
*Torch in water.*
