- HOUSTON (AP) - JT Daniels tied a career high passing for 401 yards and three scores, Daelen Alexander rushed for three touchdowns and Rice defeated Houston 43-41 in double overtime in the 42nd Bayou Bucket, on Saturday.
Daniels finished 28-for-42 passing and registered his second career 400-yard game. His only other came against Mississippi State on November 21, 2020.
The victory for Rice snapped a seven-game win streak for Houston in the series. The last win for the Owls over Houston came on October 16, 2010, when they beat the Cougars 34-31. This is only the second time a game in the Bayou Bucket series has gone to overtime. The last time was September 2, 2000.

UTSA fan here. 🧡 Great game. I really enjoyed watching Rice beat Houston.
Now UH, rice, and UTSA are 1-1.
Maybe the new rivalry could be some kind of bird bowl between you two since you’re in the same conference
Texas beat rice in game 1
What an upset win for the owls
Upset? Houston is no rank team..Houston in power 5 doesn’t mean they are power house 😂😂
@@asasavadphayphane371 true. But you don’t have to be ranked for it to be an upset. Houston is always favored over rice and traditionally dominates. just ask anyone at rice how much it means to beat Houston.
This game play in Houston and no one showed up..past 20 years also they had one good year..all I saying any team can beat Houston
Barely an upset. Rice almost won last year at UH and did well in the first half against Texas.
@hbleblanc205 Always favored yes but traditionally dominates is a bit of an exaggeration. Since 2000 UH has a 13-6 record against Rice and of those 13 wins, 4 were by one score, 1 by 2 scores, and Rice was leading at halftime in another. Texas in that same time span is 12-0 against Rice and only one game was within two scores. Definitely still an upset but it's not quite as wild as some make it out to be
Back in the day when I was at Rice, we were in the Southwest Conference and a pretty good football team. Lots has changed, but glad to see Rice win over Houston.
My first college football game was at Memorial Stadium at UY and Rice won 18-13 in 1953. I was 6 and still remember it.
First P5 win in 10 years and it couldn't have been against a better team. Rice fight never dies! 😤
Let’s Go Rice!!!!😂😂
Big win for the Rice Owls Football program🦉. JT looked like a Field General out there. 401 yards passing. There's lots of talent everywhere on both side of the ball. This season will be fun to watch.
Way to go Rice.
Man that first quarter was BRUTAL... Great game by Rice. Shows what a difference it makes when you have a 5 star veteran QB, and an amazing player like Luke McCaffrey. They revived a rivalry that was all but dead, in the best way possible. I'm still proud of our boys for making a 28-pt comeback. Enjoy the Bucket. Put our entire program on suicide watch with this one. Until next time #GoCoogs
This is a really good Rice team. They put up a little fight against UT as well. Def don’t sleep on these guys.
Rice rules!
Go Rice!!!!!🦉 🦉 🦉
Lmao Houston really moved to the Big-12 just to lose to Rice
mayne that TV deal money hasn't even kicked in yet. give us a minute please
Geez. Welcome to the Big 12 Houston, I guess? You lose to Rice? WTH! After watching the highlights is looks like Rice should have won in regulation anyway. Nice qin foe Rice
Holgerson is on the hot seat....
Y’all act like that was a pass interference when it wasn’t even close to one
Lets Go Owls!
FUCK YEAHHHHH LETS GO OWLS
God bless
GO OWLS
Big time victory rice! Good luck for rest of the season! AAC getting chippy! Lots of contenders and big conference play games! Tulane ranked. Memphis, Rice, UTSA, SMU, and even Navy doing well this year! FAU might be the sleeper team this year. USF a contender too
We almost choked it away. Go owls!
It isn't a rivalry if Rice doesn't win once in a while.
Truth
What is interesting to note is that these are students at RICE. They are there because of their scholastic aptitude, not their football prowess.
Great win for Rice and tj daniels
JT *** lmao 😂
This imo is the biggest upset of the day
Nah, soft ass Texas beat Alabama. They'll still lose 4 games or maybe even 5, but that's the big upset. Houston and Rice aren't relevant.
@@iwineverygame1995why so salty? 😂😂😂😂
@@iwineverygame1995you ain't even trying to hide the fact that you're salty as fuck.
@@codyward4200 Where do you get salty? Are you a child from Madden? I'm guessing yes.
@@iwineverygame1995you sound saltier than a jar of pickles bro
KIGS OF HUOSTON 👀
We're all Kigs
WVU fan says JT Daniels for Heisman Trophy. Rice shows JT is a superstar stud factorum.
He played like garbage with WVU
To bad J.T Daniels couldnt play like this when he was with my WVU Mountaineers
Stepdad went to Rice. Outstanding win for them! Also, F Dana Holgorsen!
Lol 😂 :56 , but still great win for the Owls
Houston may have lost the game but damn they have to use that play in future hype videos. Looked sick in person
i thought JT Daniels was w/ W Virginia...dang i cant keep. up with him
4 schools in 4 years, I think.
I mean when you’re too garbage to make it at 3 P5 schools you gotta stoop down
Dana Holgremson is an absolute embarrassment. He's been mediocre from the jump and looks perpetually hung over. The Coogs have fallen very far under his coaching tenure and I'm not sure they can beat a big 12 team with that clown at the helm. Congratulations to the Owls they earned it.
The terrible pass interference call was so bad that Rice didn't even show it in their video. 😂😂
Also didn't show the terrible uncalled false start before Houston's third touchdown. Had to get a call back 🤷♂️
Exactly- Pathetic behavior by the Group of 5 conference
U lost to fucking rice and ur blaming the games on pi. It shouldn’t be fucking close when playing rice. The call is prob bs but stop bitching the game shouldn’t come down to a pi call it should’ve been a blow out
Man, what a packed stadium
BS pass interference call.
How Houston won against UTSA again?
cuz they suck more than us probably
this game cost me 2000,
Pathetic... they should have stayed in AAC 🙄🙄🙄
Nice comeback coogs tough loss.
Welcome to the Big-12 Houston 😂
Thank you bruh 😎
Houston bad pick for big 12 ..should had been Memphis
Nobody wants Memphis unfortunately. I liked the UH-Memphis rivalry though
Typical Houston
They act like they best Texas. It's Just UH, 😅😅😅
Texas has done the least with the most. Smh
Why does UH continue to maintain a football program? It is just an embarrassment
Seriously? They were invited into the big12 for a reason...and it wasn't because they sucked. They will have a new coach next year tho....Holgerson was never that dude....
None of you saw the “pass interference” that cost Houston the game?
@@HoustonH sure, they have only been picking on UH for the last thirty years, 😆
@@joezhou4356 Houston still produces NFL Talent- Clayton Tune, Tank Dell, Patrick Paul next year. Much more than Rice and their 6th year hand-me-down flop of a QB
Congratulations to Cougar High School. Producing NFL talent is the one thing you can be proud of.@@HoustonH
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Y’all really leave out the “pass interference” that cost Houston the game? Absolutely pathetic
