Rev. Cheeks was there when they made this record. I wish he had joined in on this one.

He was there? Quite interesting. I must say though, I think young Joe had it under control.

@Jack Palance No argument from me. Lol But the songs that he does join in on are incredible. He makes Joe sing harder. Rev. did it to everyone. Sam Cooke would agree. Cheeks brief stint with the Soul Stirrers electrified audiences and Cooke learned from the master. Cheeks inspired a generation of Soul and Gospel singers.

@@lorenzobaines6222 Brother I couldn't agree more. The Songs of praise album was a master piece.I realize that Joe Ligon wasn't in the Nightingales but I digress.Could you please recommend other recordings with Mr. Cheeks and Mr. Ligon? Thank you. I have been a believer for many a year, but didn't discover Rev. Cheeks, The Consolers, The Evereadys, 5 Blind Boys from Mississippi(to name a few) until the Covid lock down....Praise the Lord I listen to the Gospel Greats with my morning coffee every day now 😀 But, back to the original subject for the raw Holy Ghost Power thusfar, I really enjoy the Rev. Cheeks,Joe Ligon, and Bob Washington from the Gospelaires. Good day!

@Jack Palance Glad to see great minds think alike. My favorite records by Rev. Cheeks actually are with groups outside of the Nightingales. One of them being Rev. Julius Cheeks & the 4 Knights out of Washington, DC. "How Far is Heaven " is a great album. But the live album, the last recording he ever made, is him at his best. He isn't full strength, but the genius is undeniable. Genobia Jeter steals the show on "Let's My Religion down." But his work with the Northern Aires is mind-blowing. This album should be in the Library of Congress. Joe Ligon's best work to me was PRE-1970'S . I feel the addition of Paul Beasley was a hindrance artistically. He was the greatest falsetto singer ever, IMO. He had the same effect on the Gospel Keynotes. I told him this once, and he said it wasn't him but the fame that affected them all. Looking back, I now agree. But Paul Jordan and the Gospel Aires are a gem, too. Charles Johnson was incredible. He replaced Beasley in the Gospel Keynotes, as well. My favorite group of that era is the Fantastic Violinaires. They were actually the first people invited to England by the Stones when they came to Chess Records. Keith Richard's told me himself that Leonard Chess has a recording of both groups together. I'm praying I get to hear it before I leave this earth. Along with the album Wilson Pickett made with the Violinaires before leaving for superstardom. Maggie Ingram and the Ingrammettes are wonderful. A family group with powerful background vocals and her steering this beautiful ship. The Pilgrim Jubilees are incredible. They're the Isley Brothers of Gospel. One the foundational groups of hard Gospel. Lucille Pope and the Pearly Gates are another winner. Slim and the Supreme Angels are my favorite favorites. The "Comes Alive" live album will leave you speechless. From the first song, you'll be held captivated. Hope you enjoy!

@Lorenzo Baines Wow, you gave me a lot to digest.First, how kind for you to take time out of your day to offer me such a thorough reply. You met/knew Paul Beasley? Extraordinary. So, is meeting Keith Richards but I don't listen to secular music much these days...Love the Wicked Pickett. When Hendrix collaborated with him for "Hey Jude" Wow. One song that sticks out to me with Rev. Cheeks is* Right will Win in the End* I do believe that. I have sampled much of his material but I will sample all that you have recommended. I have never been privileged to meet anybody very well known but I will offer you 1 of the many stories where the Lord touched me. Condensed version- About 6 weeks ago I woke up one Sunday morning in excruciating pain. I got up,sat in easy chair and prayed. On my way to Church the Lord told me "I'm going to heal your wrist today." I told not my wife nor my children but I wrote it down. Healings are fairly common at my Church and Pastor looked over towards where I was sitting at in the Sanctuary and described my symptoms to a "T". I raised my hand and he asked if he could pray for me? Now, this ministry is livestreamed Worldwide and my pastor is fairly well known. I said sure! I walked up to the Altar, He laid one hand on my head and the other held my injured hand/wrist/elbow. He pronounced healing in Jesus name and I accepted it! I don't know why but I felt led to share that. Again thank you and God be with You.
