This kind of gospel music you never get tired of! Thank You Dear God!
Amen
2024..who's still listening?
i would give anything to have this kind of good gospel music again!
Yes indeedy
ME TOO!! I love them!!!
You can say that again! Music that was sung straight from the soul. 🤩
I agree
Me too sister, me too.
Man singing Bass short man with deep voice on left is The late Carl D. Coates. My uncle one of the underrated bass singers of his time. My dad died when I was 2 months old. My uncle was one of the first people on the scene. He made a promise that day to make sure he was closest man to a father I would have. RIP UNCLE CARL.
When did carl die?
I got a bit of shock when I realised your uncle was the bass.
He contributed to a remarkable body of work, of which you can be be very proud.
Was he on the recordings
That means the great Dorothy Love Coates (his wife) was your aunt. Your family is gospel royalty!
@@loewenheims Sorry this took so long to reply. Uncle Carl died August 29th 1999 buried in Grace Hill Cemetery in Birmingham
I love traditional Gospel music
It revives the soul.
I love to hear men sing for the Lord.
Charles sung for the lord for decades, i came upon his music a few years back when i was going through the tougest storm in my life, having turned from my savior
i was at the bottom of a deep valley when i walked into a alabama truckstop and heard his music for the first time. , i bought the cd and spent the next few hours listening to the cd and coming back to the lord. God used his music to turn me around, and i will never go back,
God let me thank Charles in 2005, and i thank God daily
Nothing can ever replace these songs. We must be sure that we have a personal relationship with Jesus. If we know Jesus we have a safe place in Him. We will have somewhere to lay our head. Beautiful
Id rather be alone and listen to pure gold than have my friends hate on me for this..... 2019 2020 2021 2022 THIS WILL ALWAYS LIVE
in a world of so much trouble god still uses song to uplift his people, the word in song is a powerful tool
Black young people : this is where Rock & Roll , Jazz , Blues , Soul , country , Bebop , HipHop , Disco ,R&B all started ...not by Italians /Greeks/French/Jews or Appalachian poor southern whites - but here within us , we are a special Chosen people and Unique trend setters all over the world near and far ...don't let them tell you anything different !!!
I would respectfully suggest it's a combination of many races who brought their particular sound to the table. To single out just one as being the total majority is simplistic, disrespectful and overly prideful.
Amém!!!!
I love that old time gospel singing
Thanks to youtube for presrrving the rich haritage found in vintage spritual music.
Somewhere to lay my head
Reminds me of my dad. He sang this song.R.I.P. Dad, Robert A Hopson, 11/25/40 09/21/16
Heartfelt condolences
Take comfort in knowing that your father is resting with the Lord

This is the gospel music I grew up on. It still makes me like clapping the hands and dancing in praise!
Absolutely so good...Real gospel music..PRAISE GOD ALMIGHTY..AMEN
omg this brings me back to my childhood growing up in church...😊😊😊😊hallelujah, hallelujah 🎶🎶
4 am during quarantine and I'm enjoying this song! Who's with me?
The Best gospels singers for me ❤
Sadly, even in black Gospel music, this kind of vocal artistry has become a lost art. Nobody even knows how to sing like that anymore. From the harmonies to the soaring lead to the precise syncopations….it’s just not done anymore. Change isn’t always a good thing when great art is lost in the process.
This is Gospel the way it used to be!
This is REAL SOUL-STIRRING SINGING! AMEN, HALLELUJAH!!
Who else is still listening in 2022 ?
Yes this kind of music is not being sung I love it grew up on it
Good old Gospel music at it’s finest right here🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽😭😭😭😭😭
This song used to set the church on fire when I was a kid. I love old school songs like this❤
That gritty voice over such smooth harmony, it's excellent.
Gives me goosebumps. Let's get back to this.
Thats founding member Joseph "JoJo" Wallace on guitar, he was an awesome guitarist then, and is still awesome now!!
He looks like Mr. Slim? Wow!
Oh my gosh I am just so loving this too much have me a happy time here at home just me and Jesus. Thank you so much for sharing. Just a little piece of heaven now.
That got me moving this morning!!!!!
The Black Church is how we got over back in the day.
And who created those black churches?
And who taught blacks about religion?
... the masters. To control the masses.
Yes indeedy
@@Mrpachuko13
When they turned the master's own religion against them and showed them(some) a new perspective, this was a great achievement for mankind.
…. "ALTHOUGH THE MASTERS MAKE THE RULES FOR THE WISE MEN AND THE FOOLS I GOT NOTHING TO LIVE UP TOO …. " (BOB DYLAN) .. REGARDS FROM NORTHERN IRELAND AND GOD BLESS ALL THOSE TO RAISE THEIR VOICE FOR FREEDOM, MAY IT BE IN CHURCHES OR SOMEPLACE ELSE ….
Not masters just tools the Most High God used to chastise his people... Trust me The Most High God has always been in control!
Charles, JoJo, Bill stepping nice praising God 🙌🏾 them was the days 💞
Wow mr jojo wallace(the one on the guitar) is the only one living now. He’s 95 as of 2021.
This is as close to church as I'll ever get.
Glory to God and Praised Be Jesus Christ! I can imagine Jesus and His Angels enjoying this raw powerful love!
Who in their RIGHT MIND would "dislike" this?
I think somtimes we need to go back to this kind of music, todays music is alright but nothing like this. PRAISE GOD!
Had the pleasure to share the stage with the gales and everytime was blessed Jojo and Charles Johnson still serving the Lord today love those guys
low tech, old school gospel..........the best!
How sweet it truly was, to hear songs like this first hand. Gospel singing like this was the norm. I'm glad through postings, I can hear it now. It's so beautiful to me...
I love it! Thanks for posting.
This is the real thing, here.Such wonderful voices. Love it.🤗💒🙏
Get no better than this just awesome 😎
This track is absolutely absolute..... One of the best of its kind..... Enjoying this all the way
I like the intro. It was very creative how the 4 guys departed for the 5th singer to come center stage. I am amazed at how black folks didn't have much back then, but they were working what they had! I'm inspired.
+Rainy5062002 That was every common in most black groups be they secular music or gospel music, it was very competitive during those times so each group always did some form of embellishment in their introduction of their song for the lead singer to give it much hype and drama especially in the men group.
Rainy5062002 r
I understand it took two men's wages just to play for the clapping.
This is a very silly statement. Howre you gonna say something like this. Whyd you gotta bring race and deprivation into this
Edit: its been 9 months since i commented and im not over how patronising this comment is. Romanticising the deprivation of black people smh

The bass singer sounds so good, great song altogether.
They sang the lyrics out that song & that guitar was smoothe : )
Nice looking men with great spiritual singing skills that's very moving.
I love the Sensational Nightingales. They are truly awesome. I love It's gonna rain & many others I've found on youtube
I play this every morning!
that boy put all he had into that song...
This handsome young man can sing
There's never been anything wrong with him. He's good and has been with the Nightengales for atleast 50 years.
The Legendary Charles Johnson & The Nightingales! ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
My late hubby and I aw these guys some yrs ago at a church that was 5 mins from our house. They were good. One of them was 80 something at the time. He's in heaven now with my Mike. He had such spunk dancing around on stage.
These were some sanging men!!! ❤️
The Nightingales used frequently come to our Church in West Virginia in the late 80s and 90s . I have their autographed record.
No prob! So many singers from gospel quartets of the 40s and 50s were amazing talents and huge influences on soul artists who came up afterwards like Claude Jeter of the Swan Silvertones, who was an inspiration to Al Green.
I feel a special type pf inspiration from ventage spiritual music.
I think that's cool...
I agree.
FANTASTIC AND FASCINATINGLY PERFORMED!!! "ADVANCED FOR REAL" ....YES, YES*****
Hi Happy Sunday, Yes, Yes I am a huge fan, love this group and really love the Song.
I've loved gospel singing for a longtime. It is my favorite genre of music. I love Old Time Blues, too. We used to listen to Ernie's Record Mart out of Nashville, Tennessee. Those were the good ole days. They sold records as a pkg. deal. You might remember Little Walter who was in Cadillac Records with and Muddy Waters cried when he died. Walter was one of the best Harmonica players around, but he loved to fight and that was bad. Howlin Wolf, who paid Social Security for his band members, Wolf, died in the hospital. His Mother wouldn't accept $200 dollars because she had a problem, and called it the devil's money. She threw the money on the ground. I think I have Wolf heard he died too.
Remembering my big brother who passed June of this year. This song was a fav of his. It was sang at his homegoing.
AMEN! Absolutely magical! I only have a couple of hymns by them on my Gospel Greats Album. I love them. Thank you, JESUS, YOU are my rest xxx
I love to hear my mother sing this. I request it from her all the time.

I just saw him yesterday and he still plays wonderful !
@@imbattle796 yes I saw him on one of the Legends Celebrations ,he was looking well and playing that guitar and shug was on lead on a song with Daryl Luster. It was so many legends there.Clay and Cleave Graham major of the Pilgrim Jubilees, just so many but many of them has gone on home. When you see Jo Jo again tell him he still have friends in AUGUSTA GA , that remembers him.
Fantastic! ♥
G L O R Y ... ! ... Thank You... Expect His Grace.
Are all of you like this when you sing? This reminds me of a time when quartets were featured on TV such as The Gospel Jubilee. To me, this is what this show reminds me of.
the guitar work is background but what BACKGROUNG fabulous
That has to be Julius Cheeks, though his voice is not it's usual strength. After decades of hearing his voice only, it was a thrill to see this video. "Burying Ground" by the Sensational Nightingales is posted on RUclips and his voice is awesome in that song.
Yes, the is Cheeks.Google, I'm going home on the morning training. You will see his wife play the piano..JuliousCheeks,and The Knights of Washington DC
Leading in Charles Johnson
Quite simply divine!
Great Gospel Music. I was raised on this music even though I’m just shy of 50 years old by a couple days. I never get tired of God’s praise over great music.
It gets better every day.
